Charles A. Carpenter, 74, of Ellenboro, WV, died Monday, May 10, 1999,in Camden-
Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, WV.
He was born Nov., 30, 1924, at Goffs, near Harrisville, a son of thelate Reason S.
"Reese" and Mary Hatfield Carpenter. He was a former employee ofMid-Atlantic Glass
Co., Ellenboro, with 22 years of service, and then representedPeople's Life Insurance
Co. in Ritchie, Wood, Pleasants and Wirt counties for 18 years. He wasa well-known
and energetic supporter of the Ritchie County Lady Rebel softballteam, and loved
hunting and fishing.
Mr. Carpenter was a member of the Ritchie County Horseshoe PitchingAssociation and
was a state champion in his class. He served his country during WorldWar II in the
Navy, having his duty station primarily at the Pensacola Naval AirStation, Pensacola,
FL., and was a 1943 graduate of Harrisville High School.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Vonda R. Moore Carpenter; twosons, Jim L.
Carpenter of Martinsburg, WV, and Charles Ray Carpenter ofHarrisville, WV; a
daughter, Jane Ellen Blackmore of Barto, PA; a brother, CeslieCarpenter of
Parkersburg; two sisters, Edna Reeves of Harrisville and NadineWhitmore of Salisbury,
MD; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Thursday, May 13th, 11:00 a.m., atMcCullough-Rogers Funeral
Home, Pennsboro, WV, with Pastor Robert Perine officiating. Burialwill follow in
Ellenboro Masonic Cemetery.

QUAKER CITY---John S. Flood, 83, of Fair Street, Quaker City, died 5A.M. today (March 28, 1985) at his home.  He was born Dec. 20, 1901 inNoble County,  son of the late Thomas and Mariah Deal Flood.
Mr. Flood was a Millwood Township trustee for 24 years and a member ofthe Farm Bureau.
He leaves his wife, the former Vera Carpenter, whom he married July 2,1921;  two sons, Guy of Quaker City and John Neal of Quaker City;three daughters,  Mrs. Richard (Maxine) Ball of Senecaville,  Mrs.Gene (Naval) Thompson of Quaker City and Mrs. Valentine (June) Zayacof Quaker City;  a sister, Mrs. Ella Froehlich of Barnesville;  13grandchildren;  17 great-grandchildren;  and several nieces andnephews.
Five brothers and five sisters are deceased.

BEALLSVILLE--Funeral services for Lester Clyde Pittman, 40, who livedin Canton, will be held Tuesday at 1 P.M. at Harper-Campbell FuneralHome by Rev. Francis Smith.  Burial will be made in Friends Cemetery,Quaker City.
Mr. Pittman died Saturday night in the home night in the home of asister, Mrs. Melvin Byrd of Bowerston following a heart attack.
A native of Monroe County, he was born May 7, 1914, a son of L.V. andAda Farabee Pittman.  He was a member of the Baptist Church andemployed at Trunson Steele Co. in Canton.
Surviving are his parents; his widow Catherine; two daughters, Sandraand Amy; two sisters, Mrs. Byrd and Mrs. C.J. Kinzy of BeallsvilleR.D. 2 and two brothers, Lloyd of Cadiz and Joe of the home.

A farmer, he was born in Monroe County, Aug. 25, 1906, a son of thelate Jacob and Nancy Wells Stephen, and was a member of Stop 9 Churchof Christ, Byesville.  He was also a member of Pleasant City Grange.
Mr. Stephen leaves his wife, the former Lillie Carpenter, whom hemarried April 24, 1929;  two daughters, Mrs. Andre (Velma) Tyser,Fountain, Fla., and Mrs. Marion (Janet) Hickman, Cambridge;  two sons,Lonnie of Cumberland R.D. 2, and Frank L. of Columbus;  14grandchildren;  three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Tuttle, Columbus,  Mrs.Mary Carpenter, Summerfield and Mrs. Lillie Fitzgerald, Flushing;  andtwo brothers Harry Stephen, Byesville and Roman Stephen, Pleasant CityR.D. 2.  One son Bobby Lee is deceased.

2412. Bobby Lee Stephen

CLAYSVILLE-Bobbie Lee Stephen, 38, of Cumberland Route 2 was found inthe basement of his home near Claysville Wednesday morning dead of ashotgun wound in the head, Guernsey County deputy sheriffs reported.
Coroner W.A. Larrick ruled the death a suicide.
Stephen helped his father operate the farm on which they lived.
Surviving are his parents of the home; two brothers, Frank Stephen ofAscension Island and Lonnie Stephen of Lore City Route 2, and twosisters, Mrs. Velma Tyser of Miami, Fla., and Mrs, Janet Rittenbeck ofCambridge.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at McGaughy Funeral inByesville with Rev Donald Allen officiating. Burial will be inGuernsey Memory Gardens at Cambridge.

Jennie Carpenter Stephen celebrated her 96th birthday on Jan. 10,2007.
Mrs. Stephen has been a resident of Guernsey County for 76 years,before her relocating to Columbus.
She has been a widow for the last 23 years.
She is the seventh child of a family of 12, with two siblings stillliving.
She is a long time member of Church of Christ, besides her faith, sheattributes her long life and good health to "early to bed and early torise," eating a lot of fresh vegetables and her love of family. Sheenjoys keeping up with the news and politics and expressing heropinion.
Helping her celebrate the special day were her daughters, Bonnie Bogueof Powell, Carole Schmitz and Brenda Levy of Columbus and Judy ofWorthington. Her daughter, Alvetta, is deceased.
She also has four sons, Ralph of Canton, Gene and Wayne of West PalmBeach, Fla., and Tom of Santa Barbara, Calif., and a daughter,Alvetta, is deceased.
She is blessed with 22 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
A family celebration is being planned for June 30 in Columbus.

Jennie Heland Stephens, born Jan. 10, 1911, to the late Earl andAdelia Carpenter, and preceded in death by her late husband, RomanJacob Stephens, and daughter, Alvetta M. Wilson, passed awaypeacefully in the early morning hours of Sept. 16, 2010.
Jennie was the last surviving member of her family of 12 children(five girls and seven boys). Growing up in the Quaker City area shemet and married Roman Jacob Stephens, on April 3, 1928, and togetherthey had nine children, Bonnie (Carroll) Bogue of Powell, AlvettaWilson (deceased), Ralph (Norma) of Canton, Gene Stephens of West PalmBeach, Fla., Thomas Stephens (Caryl) of Santa Barbara, Calif., CaroleSchmitz (Bob) of Columbus, Wayne Stephens (Sherry) of West Palm Beach,Fla., Brenda Levy of Florida and Judy Shumaker (Chris) of Columbus.She is also survived by 25 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Jennie had a great sense of humor and a wit characterized by amischievous and sometimes ornery behavior. Those who knew and sharedtime with Jennie often discussed politics and world events. When shefound it difficult to sleep she would recite the 88 counties of Ohioor name the U.S. presidents in order. She loved cooking and bakingpies to share with family and friends. She will be greatly missed notonly by family but by all who knew and shared special times with her.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday atBundy-Law Funeral Home, Cambridge, where services will be 2 p.m.Sunday with Minister Dana Slingluff officiating.
