She was born June 27, 1919, daughter of the late Lewis and MarthaPowell Carpenter.
Mrs. Hannahs was a home-maker and a member of Quaker City UnitedMethodist Church,  Eastern Star 206,  Barnesville Ladies of the Elksand United Methodist Women.  She enjoyed gardening,  friends, familyand her church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Wayne H. Hannahs;  five brothers,  Harold, Lester, Mike, Marvin andFloyd;  two sisters, Helen Henderson and Emma Bates.
She leaves a daughter, Charlotte (Dempsey) Phillips of Marietta;  twosons, Carl (Elaine) Hannahs and Larry (Sharon) Hannahs, all ofBarnesville;  two sisters, Hazel Hannahs of Barnesville and BettyHannahs of Quaker City;  six grandchildren,  Bradley Hannahs, Robin(Kenny) Mollick,  Tray (Jan) Phillips, Michele (Steve) Szabo, Lance(Ashley) Hannahs and Carla (Jay) Grear;  a step-grandson, DennisHolskey;  three great-grandchildren,  Taylor, Cody and Ayden.

BARNESVILLE--Wayne H. Hannahs, 71, of Barnesville, died Friday morning(March 22, 1991) at Barnesville Hospital.
He was born March 28, 1919, in Monroe County, son of the late Glennand Patience Carpenter Hannahs. He was a retired operation engineer,Local 18, Akron; a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II; a member ofQuaker City United Methodist Church; American Legion Post 578Batesville; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2792, Barnesville; ElksLodge 1699, Barnesville; Quaker City Lodge 500 F&AM; Scottish RiteValley of Cambridge and Aladdin Temple, Columbus.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Harold Hannahs.
Mr. Hannahs leaves his wife, Grace Carpenter Hannahs; two sons, CarlHannahs and Larry Hannahs both of Barnesville; one daughter, Mrs.Dempsey (Charlotte) Phillips of Marietta; one brother, Lloyd Hannahsof Quaker City; one sister, Eunice Christman of Lewisville; sixgrandchildren; and one step-grandchild.

He was born July 19, 1925, in Noble County, son of the late Roy andEthel Clark Bates.  He was a retired operating engineer with QuinnCoal Co, a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II and a member of Bates HillChurch of Christ.
Mr Bates leaves his wife, Emma Carpenter Bates; one son, Jerry Batesof Salesville; one daughter, Mrs Roy (Dixie) House of Quaker City;five brothers, Earl Bates of Sarahsville; Fred Bates of Summerfield;Burt Bates of Beallsville; Jack Bates and Eugene Bates, both of QuakerCity; one sister, Mrs Dallas (Pearl) Albritan of Canton; 11grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and Fraternal Order ofEagle, both of Barnesville.
He is preceded in death by his wife,  Freta Mae Triplett Carpenter in1986;  one son Donnie Ray Carpenter and one brother Lester Carpenter.
Surviving are one son,  Jimmie A. Carpenter of Barnesville;  twodaughters, Roberta Bates of Quaker City and Sandra Wildes ofBarnesville;  two brothers,  Mike and Marvin Carpenter, both of QuakerCity;  five sisters, Helen Henderson,  Betty Hannahs, and Emma Bates,all of Quaker City;  Hazel and Grace Hannahs, both of Barnesville; 14grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Sarah Mae Warner-Carpenter, 29, died Monday at 5 A.M. at the homeof her foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Forest Triplett, west of Fairview,following an illness. She was born March 16, 1913, and lived nearBethesda for a number of years.
Besides her husband, Harold, she leaves three children, Roberta, Jamesand Donald; one sister, Mrs. Carleton Whittaker, and foster parents,Mr. and Mrs. Triplett.
The body was taken to Sells Funeral Home, Hendrysburg, and Tuesdayafternoon will be returned to the Triplett home. Funeral services willbe conducted Wednesday at 2 P.M. at the Fairview Methodist Church byher pastor, Rev. Donald Smith, assisted by Rev. Mr. Baker. Burial willbe made in Fairview Cemetery. Donnie Ray Carpenter, 28, died Friday of last week at the home of hisuncle and aunt,  Forrest and Bessie Triplett, Quaker City R.D. 3.
Born Oct. 18, 1939, in Fairview,  he was the son of Harold G.Carpenter and the late Sarah Warne Carpenter.
He leaves his father;  one sister, Mrs. Eugene (Roberta) Bates, QuakerCity;  one brother, Jimmie A. Carpenter, Barnesville;  his aunt anduncle with whom he resided and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at Fairview Methodist Church at 3:30 P.M.Sunday with Rev. Charles Johnson officiating.  Burial will be inFairview Cemetery.  Friday 10 Nov. 1967 Quaker City Home Towner.

FAIRVIEW---The biggest surprise birthday party this community possiblyhas ever seen was held Monday evening when nearly 200 townsfolksgathered at the Grange Hall to honor Donald Carpenter, who is strickenwith muscular dystrophy and gets around with the use of a wheelchair.
The occasion was his 15th birthday anniversary, and the program ofpresenting him with gifts came as a complete surprise to him. Friendsand others aware of his physical handicap and knowing of his desirefor a television set, showered him with greetings and cash donationsthat enabled the committee in charge to secure the set.
Donald is popular with those who know him because of his wonderfuldisposition, and the movement to secure a TV set for him quicklypicked up momentum once it got started. A house to house solicitationnetted considerable money, and many letters with cash donations werereceived by the postmasters H. L. Frost, and by Mr. and Mrs. ForestTriplett, near here, with whom Donald lives.
Everybody in this area knew of plans for the part expect Donald. Heunderstood the event was to be a community dance. And was he eversurprised.
The entire group sang "Happy Birthday" upon his arrival. Presentationof the TV set was made by James Steele, and birthday greetingsreceived in the mail were presented by Postmaster Frost. A largebirthday cake was also presented.
Mr. Frost who helped with the preparations, said it was a happyoccasion for everybody in attendance.
"We don't know exactly how much was contributed, but estimated it wasaround $500." he stated. "This will be enough to meet the expense ofthe TV set, which was provided at cost, and also enable Donald to buya chair which he can use while not in his wheelchair. Contributionswere sent in by mail from Cambridge, Byesville, Cadiz, Barnesville,Martins Ferry, Bellaire and a number of other places."  Tuesday 19October 1954 Cambridge Jeffersonian Cambridge Ohio.

Mr. Carpenter was a heavy equipment operator, retiring from QuinnDevelopment Co., and was a U. S. Navy veteran having served during theKorean War.
He was a member of VFW Post 2792, American Legion, and also a memberof Elks and Moose Lodges, all of Barnesville.
A Christian man, he was well known for square dance calling and forhis fixing of barbecue chicken and ribs and his famous turtle soup.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Icel Faye (Lucas) Carpenter, in1994;  four brothers, Marvin, Lester, Harold and Floyd Carpenter,  twosisters, Helen Henderson and Emma Bates.

QUAKER CITY--Icel F. Carpenter, 63, of Quaker City, died Thursday(Jan. 6, 1994) at Barnesville Hospital.
She was born March 16, 1930, at Quaker City, daughter of the lateHerny and Blanche Morris Lucas. She was a member of Quaker CityChristian Church.
Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by four sisters, Nellie, Zella,Marie and Rosie;  and two brothers, Warren and Dallas Lucas.
She leaves her husband, Mike Carpenter, whom she married Feb. 28,1953: a son, Laverne Lucas of Quaker City;  four daughters, DebbieRominger of Old Washington;  Mrs. Bruce (Chris) Gover of Quaker City;Mrs. Tammy (Jeff) Sigman and Mrs. Tim (Monna) Foraker, both ofCambridge;  two brothers, William Lucas of Quaker City and Ira "Buss"Morris of Canton;  a sister, Mrs. Opal Brown of Old Washington; eightgrandchildren;  several nieces and nephews.

H. Marvin Carpenter, 59, Quaker City, died Friday Dec. 15, 1995 atOhio State University Hospital, Columbus.  He was born June 10, 1936,in Fairview,  son of the late Lewis and Martha Powell Carpenter.
He was a heavy equipment operator for Quinn Coal Co. of St.Clairsville and a member of Quaker City Church of Christ,  Moose Lodge1304, Barnesville and the Operating Engineers.  He was a graduate ofOld Washington High School.
He was preceded in death by three brothers,  Harold, Lester and FloydCarpenter.
Surviving are a son,  Stephen Carpenter of Amherst;  two daughters,Susan Stephens and Sherri Flesher, both of Quaker City;  one brotherMike Carpenter of Quaker City;  five sisters, Helen Henderson, EmmaBates and Betty Hannahs, all of Quaker City;  Grace Hannahs and HazelHannahs, both of Barnesville;  seven grandchildren;  several niecesand nephews.

Summerfield News--March 11,  Elvin 10 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. JoeCarpenter of route one had a bone fractured and one pulled from thesocket of the right elbow, while at school at Calais, Thursday. Theaccident was rather unusual and happened in the gymnasium. The boy wasresting his arm on a basketball and a larger boy fell across it. J. Oscar Brownfield, 76, of the Pickerington Health Care Center,Pickerington, formerly of Route 3, Woodsfield, died at 11:20 P.M. June14, 1995 at the center.  He was born at Calais on June 15, 1918, a sonof the late James and Blanche Carpenter Brownfield.
He was a retired construction worker for Irby Construction Co. inAlabama and was a member of Seneca Valley Church of Christ at Calais,he was also a former member of the Eagles Lodge in Barnesville.
Surviving are two daughters,  Betty Stewart of Florissant, Missouriand Sharol Maynard of Columbus;  to sons, Roger Brownfield of Columbusand Randall Brownfield of Beallsville;  four sisters,  Bessie Buntingof Zanesville, Georgianna Starr of Barnesville,  Mary Lou Brownfieldof Tacoma and June Hanson of Lewisville;  one brother HerbertBrownfield of Alliance; eight grandchildren and twogreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Calais Church, conducted by theBrubach Funeral Home, Summerfield, Thursday of last week for VernonCarpenter 46, who died Monday Oct 7, at Barnesville Hospital followinga long illness.
A former employee of Cambridge State Hospital, he was born July 28,1928 in Monroe County,  the son of the late Mrs. Ossie Carpenter,Quaker City R. D. and the late Odie Carpenter and was a veteran of theKorean conflict.
