WEST LAFAYETTE---L. Pauline Carpenter, 57, of 5774 County Road 9, WestLafayette, died at 5 A.M. Tuesday (April 25, 1989) at CoshoctonMemorial Hospital after an apparent heart attack in her home.
She was born March 16, 1932, in Noble County,  daughter of Lela BateRoe of Batesville and the late Robert Roe.  She was a 1950 graduate ofBatesville High School.  She was employed by Ridgewood High School inWest Lafayette,  where she worked for 20 years as a cook.  She wasmember of Chesnut Street Church of Christ in Coshocton.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Mrs. Carpenter leaves her husband,  H. Robert Carpenter, whom shemarried Nov. 13, 1951;  two sons, Dennis Carpenter of Belle Valley andRitchie Carpenter of West Lafayette;  two daughters,  Mrs. Scott(Karen) DeMattei of Zanesville and Mrs. David (Rhonda) Iannellio ofCoshocton;  one brother, Dean Roe of Senecaville;  four sisters,Margie Hodges of Akron,  Mary Shepard of Barnesville,  Melba Flood andMyrtle Betts, both of Batesville and eight grandchildren.

WORTHINGTON---Mary Lois (Carpenter) Suhr, 58, died Thursday (March 8)at her home in Worthington.  Mrs. Suhr was born in Noble County andplayed in her neighborhood bridge club for 30 years.  She is precededin death by her parents, Alva and Mary (Yost) Carpenter.
She leaves two daughters,  Erika (Michael) Huffman of Hillard andMegan (Eric Dolby) Suhr of Columbus;  five sisters,  Zelma Hueber ofMarion,  Olive Mauer of Columbus, Lenna (Alfred) Clauss of NorthOlmstead,  Dorothy (Robert) Morris and Norma (McKinley) Morris, bothof Summerfield;  six brothers, Rodney (Erma) Carpenter,  Max (Sharon)Carpenter, Herbert (Esther) Carpenter, all of Quaker City,  Robert(Elaine) Carpenter of West Lafayette,  Frank (Bessie) Carpenter ofSarahsville,  Connie (Marsha) Carpenter of Westerville and manynieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.

Mrs. Stephen died at 6 A.M. Thursday (Feb. 26, 1970) at GuernseyMemorial Hospital, Cambridge.  She was born Oct. 5 , 1890 near Calais,the daughter James Elmer and Emma Carpenter Hannahs.
Mrs. Stephen leaves three daughters, Mrs. Josie Quillan,Newcomerstown, Mrs. Thelma Uppole, Quaker City, and Mrs. FlorenceBunting, Quaker City;  four sons, Kyle of Canton, Orian of California,Vernon of Newcomerstown and Neal of Zanesville;  one brother, ForestHannahs of Summerfield; one sister, Mrs. Lousie Carpenter,Summerfield;  19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

John R. Stephen, 63, of Calais, Monroe county, died at 10:45 o'clockSunday
night in St. Francis hospital Cambridge where he had been a patientsince
Wednesday.
He was born in Monroe county and for the past several years had livedat
Calais.  He was a member of the Seneca Valley Church of Christ and hadbeen
a farmer.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie Stephen of the home, four sons,Kyle of
Canton, Orion, who is in the navy, and Vernon and Neal of the home;three
daughters, Mrs. Jessie Forshey of Guernsey, O., Mrs. Thelma Uppole ofthe
home; and Mrs. Florence Bunting of Quaker City; two brothers and four
sisters.
The body has been taken to the Eberle funeral home in Quaker City,pending
arrangements.  Burial will be in Calais cemetery.

WEST LAFAYETTE--Louisa Carpenter, 90 of E. Fourth Street,  WestLafayette,  died 7:45 P.M. Sunday (March 3, 1985) at the WestLafayette Care Center following an extended illness.
She was born Feb. 18, 1895 in Calais to the late Elmer and EmmaCarpenter Hannahs.  Mrs. Carpenter was a member of Summerfield Churchof Christ.
On Nov. 22,  1913 she married Joseph L. Carpenter, who died Jan. 9,1983.   She leaves a son;  Elvin Carpenter and a daughter,  Mrs. Gene(Ada) Freetage,  both of West Lafayette;  a brother Forrest Hannahs ofSummerfield;  four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  Twobrothers and sister preceded her in death.

WEST LAFAYETTE---Joseph W. Carpenter,  92, of East Fourth Street,West Lafayette,  died at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital Sunday(Jan. 9, 1983) at 11:15 A.M. following an extended illness.
He was born in Monroe County,  a son of Daniel and Mary PierceCarpenter.  He was a farmer all his life in Monroe County and was amember of Summerfield Church of Christ.

Forest L. Hannahs, 89, Main Street, Summerfield, died at 7:27 A.M.Wednesday , March 12, 1986, in Good Samaritan Medical Center followingan apparent heart attack.
Mr. Hannahs was a retired farmer and a member of Calais Church.  Hewas born March 3, 1897, in Calais,  the son of the late Elmer and EmmaCarpenter Hannahs.  His wife Mae Carpenter Hannahs died in1978.
Surviving are five sons, Roy Hannahs of Salesville, Mervin Hannahs ofDallas, Texas, Herman Hannahs of Pleasant City,  Myron Hannahs ofRootsville and Harlan Hannahs of Diamond;  three daughters, MyrieLyons and Midge Loukes, both of North Canton and Ruth Craig ofDiamond;  38 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and fourgreat-great-grandchildren.

The Forrest Hannahs family of Summerfield Route are " all out " forthe war effort.  With Farmer Hannahs doing his best to raise a bumpercrop of food on his farm,  the four children are all in militaryservice.  Son John, who graduated from Summerfield High School lastmonth had joined the Navy.  Daughter Martha, who had been working atthe Revenna Ordnance Plant, has been sworn into the SPARS, which isthe female branch of the Coast Guard.

Mrs. Mae F. Hannahs, 77, of Summerfield died at 10:07 a.m. Saturday atGood Samaritan Medical Center following a short illness.
Born May 17, 1900 in Monroe County, she was the daughter of Benjaminand Emily Jones Carpenter and was a member of Calais Church and theSummerfiled American Legion Auxiliary.
She leaves her husband, Forest Hannahs, whom she married Nov. 18,1916; six sons Geral and Marvin of Little Rock, Ark., Roy ofSalesville, Herman (Jake) of Pleasant City, Myron of Rootstown andHarlan (Toby) of Diamond;  three daughters, Mrs. Ruth Craig of Diamondand Mrs. Midge Loukas and Mrs, Myrle Lyons of North Canton;  38grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren;  one great-great-grandchild;and three sisters, Ange Wehr of Batesville, Pauline Carpenter ofLewisville Route 2 and Mary Ann Coultas of Zanesville.

John Miles Hannahs, 51, of Senecaville Route 1,  died sudden Fridayevening in the Guernsey Memorial Hospital following a heart attack.He was admitted to the hospital earlier that day.
Born July 10, 1905 in Monroe County,  he was the son of Elmer and EmmaCarpenter Hannahs.  He was a farmer.
Surviving are his widow,  Susie Hayes Hannahs;  two daughters;  Mrs.Frances Stoner of Akron and Mrs.  Velma Haga of Belle Valley;  twosons,  Austin Hannahs, of Sarahsville and Emerson of Canton;  twosisters,  Mrs. Louise Carpenter of Summerfield and Mrs. Mattie Stevensof Calais;  and two brothers, Irvin Hannahs of Calais and ForestHannahs of Summerfield.
Brief funeral services were held at the Brubach Funeral Home Monday at1:00 P.M. following additional services at the Calais Methodist Churchat 2:00 P.M.  Rev. Delmar Johnson officiated and burial was made inthe Calais Cemetery.   Thursday 3 January 1957 Noble County Leader.

SUMMERFIELD---Susan Butler, 87, of Caldwell, formerly of Calais, diedat 10:07 P.M. Sunday (Jan. 30, 1994) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital.
She was born Nov. 30, 1906, near Calais, daughter of the late Danieland Carrie Belle Hutchinson Hayes.
She was a member of Caldwell Church of Christ and Caldwell SeniorCitizens.
Mrs. Butler was preceded in death by her first husband, John MilesHannahs, her second husband, Ernest Butler, a sister, Grace Clause,three brothers, Truman, Allen and Irvin Hayes and two grandchildren.

SUMMERFIELD---Ervin H. Hannahs, 48, died of a heart attack in a fieldnear his home here Friday at 2:30 P.M.   Mr. Hannahs reportedly calledto his wife who with the aid of workers of the Ohio Highway Departmenthelped him to his home.   However,  he died a shortly thereafter.
The victim was born at Calais April 3, 1912 a son of Elmer and EmmaCarpenter Hannahs.
He leaves his widow,  Pearl Hayes Hannahs;  one son,  Edsel and adaughter,  Emma both of the home; two sisters,  Mrs. Louise Carpenterof Summerfield and Mrs. Mattie Stephens of Calais and a brother ForestHannahs of Summerfield R.D. 2.

Versa L. Leach, 81, of Barnesville Health Care Center, died Mondayafternoon, Jun. 28, 1993 at the center.
She was born Sept. 21, 1911 in Monroe County,  daughter of the lateAbel and Louisa Carpenter Brown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd I. Leach in 1943. Alsodeceased are 15 brothers and sisters.

Lloyd E. Leach

Lloyd E. Leach, 34, near Temperanceville, was fatally injured at 10P.M. Saturday when struck by a truck on the Rocky River Road near hishome,  his death occurring seven weeks to the day after that of hisbrother,  William, 35,  in a similar mishap near Batesville,  theCambridge State Patrol reported.
District headquarters of the patrol here said the accident wasinvestigated by patrolmen from the Bridgeport sub-station an that thetruck driver, Ray House, near Batesville,  told officers Leach waslying in the highway and that he did not see the man in time to avoidstriking him.
Leach was attended at the scene by Dr. J.L. Romans, Batesville and thephysician accompanied the victim to Swan hospital,  death occurring enroute.  Leach was reported to have been crushed though the chest.  Theaccidents in which the brothers lost their lives occurred only a fewmiles apart.
Leach is survived by his widow;  five children,  Leach, Herbert,Russell, Dale and an infant daughter born last Wednesday;  sixbrothers, David and Ellis, Summerfield R.D.;  Acel and Barney ofQuaker City;  John of Cleveland and Arch of U.S. Army New Guinea;three sisters, Mrs. Harriett Carpenter Quaker City R.D. and Mrs. KateFloyd, Caldwell and Mrs. Jennie Flood of Batesville and his father,Sam Leach, near Batesville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 P.M. at the home of hisfather,  Batesville-Summerfield Rd.,  by Rev. A.A. Gilmore and burialwill be made in Calais Cemetery.  The body was taken to the father'shome Monday afternoon from the Eberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, Mondy26 Oct. 1943 Cambridge Jeffersonian.

Mrs. Moore died at 2:15 A.M. Wednesday at the home of a daughter Mrs.Frances Haines in St. Clairsville.
She was born in Monroe County and was a member of Bethesda AmericanLegion Auxiliary. She married Frank Deal who died in 1920.  She latermarried William Moore who died in 1951.
Mrs. Moore leaves, in addition to her daughter,  four sons, GeraldDeal of Martins Ferry,  Gylvan Deal of Wheeling, WVA.,  William MooreJr. of St. Clairsville, and John Moore of Pittsburgh, PA.;  and twosisters and three brothers and nine grandchildren.

BETHESDA----William S. Moore, 75, a resident of Bethesda for 23 years,died at 3:45 P.M. Wednesday at Barnesville following a lingeringillness.
The son of Thomas and Seville Wilson Moore, he was born at WestWheeling Feb. 15, 1885.  He was a member of West Wheeling MethodistChurch and a taxi operator at Bethesda for many years.
Besides his wife,  Mrs. Maude Deal Moore, he leaves two sons, Williamof St. Clairsville and John T. of Pittsburgh, PA.;  two step-sons,Gerald Deal of Martins Ferry and Gylvan Deal of Wheeling; onestep-daughter,  Mrs. Karl Haines of St. Clairsville;  one brother,Coral Moore of Waynesburg, PA.  and three grandchildren.

BARNESVILLE---Services will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday in Campbell-Plumby Funeral Home for Raymond L. (Red)Carpenter, 68, 220 Hunts Ave.
The Rev. Arthur Williams will officiate and burial will be in the Church of the Assumption Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 4:30 to 9 P.M. today (Monday) and after 9 A.M. tomorrow.
Mr. Carpenter died at 1:20 P.M. Saturday (Nov. 21, 1970) in Barnesville General Hospital after a long illness.
A retired warehouse worker for the Pomoc Co., he was born March 27, 1902, in Monroe County, a son of John and Margaret Miller Carpenter. He was a member of  Eagles Lodge.
He leaves one son, Neil Carpenter, Lemon Grove, Calif.;  one daughter, Mrs. Donald (Darlene) Long, Barnesville;  one sister, Mrs. Ora Johnson, Barnesville;  one brother, Everett Carpenter, Barnsville R. D. 1; and eight grandchildren.
His wife, Mona Carpenter 95866689, died in 1960.  Monday 23 Nov. 1970 Jeffersonian.

The death of Mrs. Mona M. Carpenter, age 53, wife of Raymond L.Carpenter, resident of 220 Hunts Ave.,  Barnesville, occurred SaturdayFeb. 27, 1960 at 7:30 at the the Belmont County Sanatorium.
She was born in Barnesville, Jan. 2, 1907, a daughter of Joseph andKatherine Jefferis Slevin and was a member of the Church of Assumptionand the Altar Society of that church.
Surviving are her husband, a daughter, Miss Darlene of the home;  oneson Neal of Cleveland;  three grandchildren and several nieces andnephews.  One brother and two sisters are deceased.
The Rosary was recited at 7:30 P.M. Monday at the Campbell FuneralHome.
A high mass requiem was celebrated Tuesday at 9 A.M. in the Church ofAssumption with Rev. Fr. Cornelius Gallagher officiating.  Burial was in the Catholic cemetery.   Thursday 3 March 1960 Barnesville Whetstone.

Mrs. Mona Carpenter, wife of Raymond L. Carpenter 95767819 of 220 Hunts Avenue, passed away Saturday night, February 27 at 7:30 at Belmont County Sanitarium where she had been a patient for many months. Mrs. Carpenter was 53 years of age. She was born in Barnesville, January 2, 1907, a daughter of Joseph and Katherine Slevin and was a member of the Church of the Asumption and the Alter Society of that church. She was united in marriage on November 24, 1926 to Raymond L. Carpenter who survives with one daughter, Darlene of the home; one son, Neil of Cleveland; three grandchildren, nieces and nephews. One brother and two sisters are deceased. The body was taken to the Campbell Funeral Home on North Chesnut Street, where the Rosary was recited Monday evening at 7:30. A High Mass of Requiem was celebrated Tuesday morning at 9 o'clock in the Church of the Assumption with the Rev. Father Cornelius Gallagher officiating. Burial was made in the Catholic Cemetery.
