She was born April 7, 1909, near Calais, daughter of the late Able andEmma Dailey Hayes.  She was a member of Calais Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mancel Pierce, who died in1968.  Also deceased are one daughter, Connie Pierce;  one son JohnPierce;  three brothers, Oather Hayes, Owen Hayes and James Hayes; onesister Pearl Hannahs;  one grandson and one great-grandson.

Summerfield - Mancel Pierce, 68, of Calais, Quaker City Route 4, diedat 4:15 A.M. Tuesday at Pomerene Memorial Hospital at Millersburgfollowing an eight month illness.
Mr. Pierce was being returned to his home from Cleveland Clinic atCleveland when his conditioned worsened.  He was admitted at thehospital in Millersburg.
Mr. Pierce was born Aug. 28, 1900, near Calais, a son of Joseph andLeatha Carpenter Pierce.  He had been employed as a constructionworker for Benton Bridge Company of Wooster.
Surviving are his widow, the former Olive Hayes; five daughters, Mrs.Melba Carpenter and Mrs. Emma Jean Schlosser both of Byesville, Route1, Mrs. Ocie McFrederick of Jerusalem and Miss Laura and Miss ConniePierce of the home; five sons, Roy of Killbuck, Joseph of CambridgeRoute 2 and John, Byrol and Robert all of the home; 13 grandchildrenand three sisters, Mrs. Easter Poulton and Mrs. Mahalia Hill, both ofSummerfield, and Mrs. Mildred Snyder of Bethesda.
The body was taken to Brubach Funeral Home here where friends may call2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. today.

WOODSFIELD---Services for Maywood R. Carpenter, 69, of West MariettaStreet, Woodsfield, who died Wednesday afternoon (March 19, 1986) athis home,  will be at 1 P.M. Saturday at Bauer-Turner Funeral home inWoodsfield with Dr. Stephen R. Long officiating.
Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Woodsfield.  Calling hours atthe funeral home will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. today.  Knightsof Pythias services will be at 9 P.M. today at the funeral home.
He was born Oct. 5, 1916 in Monroe County son of the late Ross andAlice Hayes Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter was a retired auto parts salesman and U.S. Army/AirForce veteran of World War 11.  He was a member of WoodsfieldPresbyterian Church,  American Legion Post 87 of Woodsfield andKnights of Pythias Lodge of Woodsfield.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

WOODSFIELD--Margaret L. Carpenter, 81, of Wintersville, formerly ofWoodsfield, died Thursday (Feb. 17, 1994) at Ohio Valley Hospital,Steubenville.
She was born July 21, 1912, in Monroe County, daughter of the lateMarion and Elizabeth Buchanan Fisher. She was a member of WoodsfieldPresbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband Maywood Carpenter, on March19, 1986. A sister, Ethel Fisher, is also deceased.
Mrs Carpenter leaves a daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Carolyn) Coldebella ofWintersville; a brother, Elmer Fisher of Warren; a sister, GracePaulus of Wooster; and one granddaughter.

He was born in Monroe County, May 19, 1915, the son of Ross and AliceHayes Carpenter.  He was an auto mechanic, having last been employedby Thompson's Dodge in Caldwell.  He had resided in Caldwell since1963, having moved there from Summerfield.
Mr. Carpenter leaves his wife,  the former Sally Keylor;  a sonClesson of Caldwell R.D. 4;  a daughter, Mrs. James (Alice) Warner ofSummerfield R.D.1;  three sisters, Mrs. Ildrith Coultas ofSummerfield.  Miss Melissa Carpenter of Paris, KY. and Mrs. MargertDeLong of Lewisville R.D.1;  and two brothers, Maywood Carpenter ofWoodsfield and Burdette Carpenter of Summerfield R.D. 1.
A son, two brothers and sister preceded him in death.

She was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Monroe County, daughter of the lateWilliam and Louise Crawford Keylor.  Mrs. Carpenter was a member ofthe Calais Church.  Mrs. Carpenter was a housewife.
She leaves one son, Clesson of Summerfield;  one daughter, Mrs. James(Alice) Warner of Summerfield;  one brother, Dallas Keylor ofSummerfield;  one sister, Mary Allar of Somerton;  and fourgrandchildren.
One son Homer is deceased.  She was also preceded in death by threebrothers and one sister.

He was born Oct. 14, 1923, in Summerfield, son of the late Ross andAlice Hayes Carpenter.
Mr. Carpenter was retired farmer and a retired manage for the OhioDivision of Wildlife.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Marsha Lynn Baker;  threebrothers, Maywood Carpenter, Roger Carpenter, and Raymond Carpenter;two sisters, Ildrith Coultas and Eleanor Carpenter;  a grandson, JasonHines and a great-grandson Tyler Carpenter.

Leah L. Carpenter, 79, of the Summit Acres Nursing Home, Caldwell,Ohio (formerly of Calais, Ohio) died Monday, January 26, 2009 at thenursing home.
She was born near Summerfield, Ohio on April 20, 1929 a daughter of the late Lloyd E. and Versa Brown Leach.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Allen Burdette ?Smucker? Carpenter on August 12, 1998; a daughter,Marsha Lynn Baker on February 13, 1995; one brother, Herbert Leach; agrandson, Jason Hines and a great grandson, Tyler Carpenter.
Surviving are two daughters: Linda (Bill) Warner and Melody (Frank)Warner both of Summerfield, Ohio; three sons: Lloyd (Peggy) Carpenterand Mickey (Diane) Carpenter both of Summerfield, Ohio and Jeffery(Marsha) Carpenter of Sarahsville, Ohio; one sister: Shelly Burkhartof Temperanceville, Ohio; two brothers: Russell Leach of Boston, Ohioand Dale Leach of Barnesville, Ohio; 20 grandchildren; 30 greatgrandchildren.

Mrs. Delong was a homemaker and attended Calais Church, Calais, andalso First Baptist Church, Caldwell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletis Delong, on Nov. 13,1976; a son, Sam Delong; three sisters, Melissa Carpenter, EleanorCarpenter and Ildrith Coultas; four brothers, Raymond, Roger, Maywoodand Burdette Carpenter; and a grandson, Jamey Hall.
She leaves three daughters, Karola Housley of Caldwell, Becky Hall ofSummerfield and Rhoda Carpenter of Lewisville; a son, Dan Delong ofWinston-Salem, N.C.; 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

SUMMERFIELD---Services for Cletis E. DeLong, 58, Lewisville R.D. 1,were held at 1 P.M. Today (Monday) at Calais Church, with burialfollowing in the Calais Cemetery.  Brucbach Funeral Home, Summerfieldhad charge of arrangements.
A well-know farmer and carpenter,  Mr. DeLong died unexpectedly at7:45 A.M. Saturday at his home following an apparent heart attack.
He was born Feb. 4, 1918 in Monroe County, the son of Mrs. JosieDeLong, Summerfield R.D. 1 and the late Joseph DeLong,  and was aSeneca Twp. trustee in Monroe County and member of the Calais Church.He was a veteran of World War II.

1796. Raymond Earnest Carpenter

Obituary:  Monday 11 October 1965 Times Recorder, Zanesville, Ohio
Calais - Raymond E. Carpenter, 56, was found hanged in a machineryshed at the rear of his home about five miles west of here Sundaymorning (Oct. 10)  Sheriff Francis (Tinker) Sulsberger said acoroner's ruling is expected.  Carpenter had been in ill health muchof the time since he lost a leg in a logging accident five years ago,Sulsberger said.
Salsberger said a son, Wallace Carpenter who lives on an adjoiningfarm found the body shortly before noon.  He and other members of thefamily searched for Carpenter after they went to his home followingchurch services.
Sulsberger said Carpenter was hanging from a chain which was fastenedto a rafter.  He apparently stood on a gate at the entrance to theshed which is about 100 yards from his home.
Carpenter, a farmer, was born in Monroe County, Oct. 18, 1908, son ofRoss H. and Rachael Hayes Carpenter.
Surviving are his widow, Martha; two sons, Byron of Mount Vernon andWallace; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Earley of Orlando, Fla., and Mrs.Anna Lee Piatt of Whipple; six grandchildren; three brothers, RogerCarpenter of Caldwell, Maywood of Woodsfield and Burdette ofSummerfield Route 2, four sisters, Mrs, Ildrith Coultas and MissEleanor Carpenter, both of Summerfield.  Mrs. Margaret Delong of nearSummerfield, and Miss Malissa Carpenter of Paris, Ky.

She formerly resided at the Inn of Marietta before going to Arbors ofMarietta.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raymond Carpenter, onOct. 1965; her second husband, Wesley T. Weber, on Aug. 24, 1999;three brothers, Glen, Halbert and Cyrill Pennell; a grandson, ToddPiatt; two step-sons, Robert and Vernon Weber.

She was born Nov. 25, 1906, in Calais, daughter of the late Ross andAlice Hayes Carpenter.  Her husband, Frank Coultas, died April 29,1960.
Mrs. Coultas was a homemaker and a member of Calais Church.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Alpha (Myra) Lawman of Summerfield;  twobrothers, Burdette Carpenter of Summerfield R.D. and Maywood Carpenterof Woodsfield;  two sisters, Melissa Carpenter and Margaret Delong ofSummerfield;  four grandchildren, Mrs. Mike (Renea) Campbell, LisaLong, Stephen Dailey and Allen Dailey;  and five great-grandchildren.

SUMMERFIELD----A Noble County man died of a fractured skull Fridaywhen he fell down an elevator shaft, which he was repairing at 42 E.Gay St. Columbus.
The victim, Frank W. Coultas, 52, of Summerfield, had been employed asan elevator mechanic the past 20 years for the Westinghouse ElectricCompany.  He was pronounced dead on arrival at Grant Hospital,Columbus.
Mr. Coultas was born May 6, 1907, at Calais, Monroe County, the son ofSamuel and Alice Dailey Coultas.
He leaves his widow, Iidrith Carpenter Coultas;  one daughter, Mrs.Myra Jane Dailey and three grandchildren, Renea, Stephen and LisaDailey, all of Summerfield;  five brothers, Lawrence and Gilmore, bothof Zanesville,  Russell of Columbus, Allen of New Jersey, and Stephenof Clyde;  and one sister, Mrs. Clara Cunningham, of Pleasant City.

The funeral services for Winifred Lottera, fourteen-months-olddaughter of Frank Coultas and wife, of Quaker City route, whose deathoccurred Wednesday from infantile troubles, were conducted Thursdayafternoon by Rev. Frank Wharton, of this place. Interment was made inCalais Cemetery. In addition to the parents, the grandparents, RossCarpenter and wife and Samuel Coultas and wife of the Calais vicinity,survive.  Wed. 6 Oct. 1926 Noble County Leader Caldwell Ohio.


Charles Cleveland Buchanan

CUMBERLAND--Funeral services for Charles Cleveland Buchanan, 77, NewConcord R. D. 2, will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday from Tom Funeral Homehere.  The Rev. Joseph Brown will officiate and burial will be inCumberland Cemetery.
Mr. Buchanan died at 1:30 P.M. Thursday at Bethesda Hospital where hehad been a patient six days.
Born Sept. 12, 1888 in Monroe County, he was the son of Roscoe andSusan Denbow Buchanan.  He was custodian of the Cumberland School andwas a member of the Caldwell Baptist Church.
Mr. Buchanan leaves his wife, Mollie;  a son, Robert of Newark; adaughter, Mrs. Delmar (Genevie) Warne, New Concord R.D. 2;  sevengrandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  Two brothers and a sisterare deceased.
