1831. Gene M. Wise

MCCAMMON -- Gene M. Wise, 68, died at his home on Tuesday, March 14,2006.
He was born in Pocatello at St. Anthony Hospital on March 1, 1938, toLeo and Leona Wise, and received his education at Pocatello schools.
After two years in the National Guard he enlisted in the United StatesArmy in 1955, retiring with the rank of warrant officer, first classin 1975.  He served in Vietnam, Korea, and Germany as well asstateside.
In 1978, Gene went to work for Bell Helicopter in Isfahan, Iran, wherehe met his future wife, Jennifer Clark, who was vacationing there fromEngland.  Forced to leave Iran on the outbreak of the revolution in1979, he returned to Pocatello to work for EJ Bartells Company, andlater Pocatello Winsulation.
He and Jennifer married on July 15, 1980, and made their home on MarshCreek, where, as a boy he had loved to hunt and fish with his father.
Forced to retire for a second time for health reasons, he was able todevote himself to his various hobbies.  He was an organic gardener,raising his own fruit and vegetables, and had a small herd of beefcattle, chickens and from time to time a pig or two.
He loved to bake bread and share his creations with friends andfamily.  He also made some of the best sauerkraut in town.  He was anavid upland game bird hunter, and over the years raised a number ofEnglish setters, who were his pride and joy.  In recent years he
devoted himself to the propgation and planting of apple trees on hisproperty, especially antique, rare and cider apples, and had developedan extensive knowldege of different varieties.  At the time of hisdeath he had about 150 varieties of apple tree, but was alwaysplanning to graft or plant just one or two more.  He was anoutstanding cider maker.
Gene was a member of North American Fruite Exploreres (NAFEX) and wasa master gardener.  He enjoyed cooking, reading, and arguing politics.He loved to travel, and was dreaming of a trip to Chile, which had toput on hold as he underwent medical treatment.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer, McCammon; daughters, Maria(Paul) Sestero, Heide (Don) Fry; sons, Robert Wise, Peter Wise, JamesWise; brother Bob Allen; sister Bonnie; nine grandchildren; also hisbeloved hunting buddy, Rosie.  He was preceded in death by his parents
and sister, Gerry.
I'm weary with my former toil,
Here I will sit and rest awhile;
Under the shadow I will be
Of Jesus Christ the apple tree
Funeral services for Gene will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 18,2006, at St. John's Church on the ISU campus at Eighth and Lovejoywith Deacon Bill Duggan officiating.  Family will meet with friends atthe church for one hour prior to the service.  Burial with militaryrites will follow at the Robin Cemetery, close by some of his favorite
pheasant hunting grounds.  Arrangements are under the direction ofColonial Funeral Home.

Miss Lavina Delores Wise,  daughter if Mr. and Mrs. John S. Wise ofSummerfield Route 2, became the bride of Harold Grant Carpenter, sonof Mr. and Mrs. Earl Carpenter Jr. also of Summerfield Route 2,  onTuesday,  November twenty-fourth.
The vows were exchanged at the home of Minister J.V.A. Traylor onEastern Ave,  in Woodsfield,  who officiated at he double ringceremony at three o'clock in the afternoon.
The bride chose for her wedding a light blue suit with blackaccessories.  Pinned to her shoulder line was a corsage of red andwhite carnations.  She carried out the tradition of something old,new, borrowed and blue, and penny in her shoe.
The new Mrs. Carpenter attended the Calais and Summerfield schools.
Mr. Carpenter is a graduate of Batesville High School class of 1947.He served in the U.S. Army twenty-one months,  eighteen months ofwhich ere spent in Japan and Korea.

SUMMERFIELD---Herbert H. Woodby, 75, of Sarahsville, died Tuesday(Feb.3, 2004) at Southeastern Med., Cambridge.
He was born Oct. 17, 1928, in Townsend, Tenn, son of the late Josephand Hester Caylor Woodby.  Mr. Woodby retired from the formerConsolidated Aluminum Corp., Hannibal.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Korean War.  Hereceived a double purple heart and two Bronze Stars for his service.
He was a Protestant by faith.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Woodby.

Harold Grant Carpenter

A farmer and construction worker,  he died Wednesday morning (March11, 1981) in Summit Township,  Monroe County, of an apparentself-inflicted gunshot wound,  verified by the Monroe County Coroner.He was dismissed from a Zanesville hospital the evening prior to hisdeath.
Mr. Carpenter was born May 31, 1929, in Seneca Township,  MonroeCounty,  the son of Earl and Edna Moore Carpenter,  Summerfield R.D. 1He was a member of Local 639 Laborers International Union at Marietta,and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Mrs. Synder was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Leach; five brothers,Paul, Robert, Kenneth, Junior and Sylvan Wise; and a grandson,Christopher English.

She was born Nov. 11, 1935, near Summerfield, daughter of the lateJohn and Katie Wehr Wise.

SUMMERFIELD----Homer Rex Leach, 72, of Quaker City, died Monday (Feb.12, 2001) at Summit Acres Nursing Home,  Caldwell.
He was born Jan. 17, 1929, near Quaker City, son of the late Arch andHazel (Powell) Leach.
Mr. Leach retired from W.J. Plumby Inc., Somerton, where he served asa mechanic.  He was a Protestant by faith and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He was preceded in death by his wife,  Shirley (Wise) Leach,  who diedApril 4, 1998;  a brother Gervis Leach;  and infant daughter; and agrandson,  Donnie Howiler.

Judith A. “Judy” Wise, 69, of 52475 State Route 379, Woodsfield, Ohiopassed away Thursday, February 21, 2013 at the Barnesville Hospital,Barnesville, Ohio.
She was born near Calais, Ohio on March 2, 1943 a daughter ofGeorgianna Brownfield Starr who survives of Barnesville, Ohio and thelate Edward Starr.
She was a homemaker and a member of the former Seneca Valley Church ofChrist near Calais, Ohio. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards,crossword puzzles, gardening, farming, and spending time with familyand friends.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by a son, JamesEric Wise in 1986; and two brothers, Hubert and Herbert Starr.
Surviving in addition to her mother are her husband of 50 years,Jerald Wise whom she married on April 7, 1962; three daughters, JayneMcPeek of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Jorja (Jeffrey) Johnson of Cambridge,Ohio, and Jill (Lars) Johnson of Waynesburg, Pennsylvania; one son,John (Christina) Wise of Caldwell, Ohio; one sister, Helen (J.K.)Larrick of Cambridge, Ohio; ten grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was born June 2, 1962,  in Belmont County,  a son of Jerald andJudy Starr Wise of Woodsfield R.D. 3.
Mr. Wise was employed by Dynamic Drilling in Cambridge and was a 1981graduate of Shenandoh High School.
In addition to his parents,  he leaves three sisters,  Mrs. William(Jayne) McPeek of Batesville,  Jorja Lynn Wise and Jill Elaine Wiseboth of the home;  a brother, Jon Edward,  also of the home;  maternalgrandparents,  Mr. and Mrs. Edward Starr of Barnesville;   maternalgreat-grandmother, Mamie Starr of Calais;  a nephew and several auntsand uncles.

SUMMERFIELD------Paul J. Wise, 49, Summerfield, died unexpectedly athis home 5:30 P.M. Sunday (Oct. 31, 1971) from an apparent heartattack
A veteran of World War 11,  Mr. Wise was born Dec. 30, 1921 at Calais,the son of John S. Wise, Summerfield,  and the late Katherine WehrWise,  and was a member of Summerfield American Legion Post andCaldwell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.  He was disabled with aninjury for some time and had seen service in the Asiatic, Pacific andPhilippe theatres during World War 11.
Mr. Wise leaves, in addition to his father,  his wife,  the formerElizabeth Dailey;  one daughter, Barbara of the home;  two sons,Kenneth and Joseph, both of the home;  three sisters,  Mrs. Sarah LouSnyder, Mrs. Lavina Carpenter, both of Lewisville R.D. and Mrs.Shirley Leach, Quaker City R.D. 4.  One brother Kenneth lost his lifein World War 11.
Friends may call at Bruback Funeral Home, Summerfield, from 2 to 4 and7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday.

He was born Feb. 1, 1924 near Calais.  son of the late John andKatherine Wehr Wise.
He was a retired construction worker and member of Union Local 639,Mariett.  He was a Protestant by faith and a U.S. Army Veteran of WW11.  He was a member of American Legion Post 415, Summerfield.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Paul, Sylvan andJohn Wise Jr.;  a sister Shirley Leach.
He leaves his wife,  Donna Brown Wise, whom he married Dec. 11, 1948;a daughter and son-in-law, Connie and Marion Hannahs of Lewisville;two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Margie Wise of Barnesvilleand Tom and Elaine Wise of Westerville;  two sisters,  Mrs. Raymond(Sara) Snyder of Lewisville and Mrs. Herbert (Lavina) Woodby ofTownsend, Tenn.;  two brothers, Royden Wise of Caldwell and JeraldWise of Woodsfield;  four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

SUMMERFIELD---Services will be conducted by the Rev. Bill Pickenpaughat 11 A.M. Tuesday at Bruach-Walters Funeral Home for Sylvan C. Wise,64, of 51205 State Route 279,  who died Friday (Nov. 12, 1993) as thethe result of a fire at his home.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Belmont VeteransCouncil in Calais Cemetery.
Mr. Wise was born 11 July 1929,  Monroe County,  son of the late Johnand Katherine Wehr Wise.  He was a retired construction worker, aProtestant by faith,  and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.  Hewas also a member of Laborers Union Local 639, Marietta,  BarnesvilleVFW Post 2792 and the Batesville American Legion.

Pvt. Sylvan C. Wise, a son of Mr. and Mrs. John Wise,  Route 2,Summerfield, Ohio, is severing with the 7th Infantry Division inKorea.
The division occupies a strong bunker and pillbox defense line on themountains east-central sector of the front.  Tank-infantry patrolsfrom the division move out daily to probe and raid Red defense in the"Punchbowl" area.
Private Wise,  a rifleman in Company E. of the 17th "Buffalo" InfantryRegiment, arrived in Korea Feb. 10, 1952.
He attended Calais high school and was a farmer before entering theArmy in August 1951.  He received his basic training at ScholfieldBarracks, Hawaii.  Thursday 13 March 1952 Noble County Leader.

Pfc. Sylvan Wise has returned to Camp Atterbury, Ind., after spendinga 30-day furlough with his family and friends. Pfc. Wise returned tothe United States on Dec. 19, 1952 after spending nine months with theSeventh Infantry Division in the front lines of Korean. He was woundedin October, 1952, and received the Purple Heart. From Camp Atterburghe was assigned to Fort Ord, Calif. Woodsfield News. Monday 9 Feb.1953 Cambridge Jeffersonian Cambridge Ohio.

BARNESVILLE----Dorothy L. Shipley, 53, of 330 S. Gardner St.,Barnesville,  died this morning (March 7, 1980) at BarnesvilleHospital.
She was born at Barnesville March 17, 1926,  daughter of PearlMillison Wise and the late Elmer Wise.  She was a member of West MainStreet Church of Christ.  Her husband,  Harlan,  preceded her in deathDec. 14, 1973.   A granddaughter also is deceased.
In addition to her mother,  she leaves a son,  Gary Shipley ofCambridge;  a daughter, Mrs. Edward (Darla) Weber of Lima;  a sister,Mrs. Charles Willis (Irma) Willis of Cambridge;  and fourgrandchildren.

Harlan Eddy Shipley

Services for Harlan E. Shipley, 52, a resident of 330 South GardnerStreet, who was fatally injured early Friday morning when thetractor-trailor which he was driving, became out of control andcrashed on Rt. 265, a short distance west of Salesville, wereconducted at the Campbell-Plumby Funeral Home with Evangelist James W.Gallagher officiating on Monday, with burial in Crestview Cemetery.
Mr. Shipley was pronounced dead at the scene, due to a skill fracture.He apparently fell asleep and the truck traveled some 300 feet when itveared to the left of the road before it crashed into an embankment.
Born April 30, 1921, in Fairview, he was the son of Homer L. Shipleyand the late Minnie Eddy Shipley.  He was an employee of John Ralston,Barnesville, owner of the trucking company.
Shipley was a member of the Church of Christ and was a veteran ofWorld War 11.
In addition to his father, he leaves his wife Dorothy Wise;  on sonGary of Cambridge Rt 4; one daughter, Mrs. Vernon (Darla) Yontz,Senecaville Rt.1;  one granddaughter, Heather;  one sister, Mrs. Bryon(Hazel) Pitzer of Cambridge and two brothers, Orville of Henrysburgand Everett of Fairview. 1844. Irma Gertrude Wise

Irma Gertrude Willis, 73, of Cambridge, died Tuesday at the BeckettHouse, New Concord.  She was born Aug 9, 1924, in Somerton (BelmontCounty) daughter of the late Elmer and Pearl Millison Wise.
Mrs. Willis was a homemaker.  She was a member of the Women'sAuxiliary to VFW Post 2901 and Get With It Club.  She was a Protestantby faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Richard Willis;  ason Glenn David Willis; and  a sister,  Dorothy Shipley.
She leaves a son Terry L. Willis of Cambridge; a daughter Marsha AnnWillis Scott of Cambridge;  six grandchildren;  fourgreat-grandchildren;  a niece Darla Weber; and a nephew, Gary Shipley.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 P.M. Thursday at Scott Funeral Home,Cambridge.  The Women's Auxiliary to VFW Post 2901 will have servicesat 7 P.M.

Charles Richard Willis

Charles served in WW II in the war agaist Germany.

Charles Richard Willis, 63,  of Cambridge R.D. 1, died Saturday (April7, 1984) at Guernsey Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 3, 1920, in Cambridge, son of the late James andSarah Mayberry Willis.  Mr. Willis was a welder for Columbia Gas ofOhio. He was a member of First U.P., Eagles Club,  VFW Post 2901,Fourth Armored Division Chapter Association and was a World War IIArmy veteran.
Mr. Willis leaves his wife, Irma Wise Willis, whom he married in July1946; one son Terry Willis of Cambridge;  one daughter, Mrs. Ronald(Marsha) Scott of Cambridge;  the brothers, James Willis of Cambridge,Fred Willis of Elyria and Max of Toledo;  four sisters, Mrs. AlfredMary Schultheis of Garfield Heights,  Mrs. Carl Martha Boyer ofCambridge,  Mrs. Robert Kathryn Beaver of Ypsilanti, Mich., Mrs. DaleShirley Burson of Westerville and six grandchildren.
A son, brother and sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to P.M. Monday at Thorn Funeral Home,where services will be 10:30 A.M. Tuesday with Dr. Ronald Flemingofficiating.  Guernsey County Veterans Council will conduct grave sideservices.  Eagles services will be at 7 P.M. Funeral services for Glenn David Willis, three- week- old- son of Mr.and Mrs. Charles R. Willis, Fairdale, will be conducted Tuesday at 2P.M. at the Corwin Funeral Home by Rev. Paul Harris. Burial will bemade in Northwood Cemetery.
