In action, 2-6 October, the enemy succeeded in taking and
holding six Division outpost hill positions. These were HILLS 36
(ET 958972) 37 (ET 964984) 86 (ET 957929) in the KMC sector,
end Hills 3 (SEATTLE) (CT 100103) 13 (FRISCO) (CT 091094),
and 15 (DETROIT) (CT 088089) in the 7th Marine sector. Outpost
1 (lWARSAW') (CT 104108) was also lost during this action, but was
retaken by the 7th Marines.

It was noted by observers from the 1st Marines on 0P 1 that
during the attack in the KMC seotor, the enemy w'as utilizing the
railway bridge at CT 954982, crossing the SACHON River underneath
rather than over the span, The enemy forces advanced ·in
mass, apparently oblivious to the intense fire from friendly
supporting arms end air.

In Sentember, the enemy showed interest in these KMC
outposts and made an unsuccesful effort to take them, Now, by
taking them he has established himslef east of the SACHON, apprently so
that he operate his patrols east of the river without too much difficulty.

Born March 12, 1924, in Akron, Mrs. Heddleston had been a resident ofSpringfield Township for 74 years. She retired from GenCorp in 1983with over 30 years service.
Preceded in death by parents, Clarence and Marie, husband, David,grandson, Tommy Madrin, and brother, Clarence Jr. Mrs. Heddleston issurvived by daughters, Diane (Bill) Walker, Cheryl (Bill) Wright, andKelley (David) Smith; brother, Marvin "Doc" (Rose) Sample; sister, Iva(Neil) Johnson; and grandchildren, Amy (Rick) Madrin-Mathia, Leah,Jenna, and Emily Smith, Milagro, Roger, and Jillian Wright. Born in Akron, he lived in Yucapia, Calif., for 23 years. He was a1945 graduate of Springfield High School, and served in the U.S. Navyfor four years. Mr. Sample lived in Sawyerwood until he went to theNavy. He was a chef at Tangier, Waterloo, Benders, and Top Chalet.

Mr. Starr died Wednesday (Feb. 9, 1878) at 8:05 a.m. in BarnesvilleGeneral Hospital following a long illness.

Relatives in this community last week received word of the death ofWillard Starr, 41, Merced, California, which occurred Tuesday Nov. 9,as the result of a heart attack.  A native of Palestine community,Quaker City R.D., he was the son of Forest L. Starr, St. Augustine,Florida, and Dessie Miller Starr, deceased.  As a young man of 17, heenlisted in the U.S. Navy and had been in this service until fouryears ago.
In addition to his father, he leaves one son, Sammy of California;one sister, Edith McVicker, Quaker City R. D. 2;  two brothers, RodneyStarr, Quaker City R. D. 3 and Richard Starr, Palestine Ridge.  Healso leaves several nieces and nephews.  One brother is deceased.Friday 19 Nov. 1965 Quaker City Home Towner.

She was a homemaker and attended the Church of Christ, Fairview. Shewas also a volunteer at Barnesville Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward McVicker, on March15, 1978. Also deceased are five brothers, Richard, Leoanrd, Rodney,Roy and Willard Starr.
She leaves two sons, Ray McVicker of Quaker City and David F. McVickerof Mansfield; a daughter, Mrs. Everett (Alma Lea) Bate of Quaker City;nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces andnephews.

Imogene V. Paulus, 89, of Hennis Care Centre of Bolivar, a resident ofBolivar since 1944 and formerly of Lewisville, O., in Monroe County,died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, in Hennis Care Centre following a longillness.

She was born July 21, 1915, in Monroe County, O., a daughter of thelate Charles and Clara (Miller) Young. She graduated from LewisvilleHigh School in Lewisville, O. She had worked for the former Graef FordSales and Bill Good Ford Sales at Bolivar where she worked in theTitle Department. She was a Bolivar area seamstress and a homemakerall her life. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Bolivarand in her younger years, she was an active member of the church. Shewas a past member of the Daughters of America and a past member of4-H, where she served for 25 plus years as a seamstress and homemakerinstructor.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Albert O. Paulus, who died onMarch 19, 1992, and they were married for 55 years; an infantdaughter; and a son-in-law, Jim Webber.

Surviving are a daughter, Doris Webber of Bolivar, O.; a son, Dennis(Gloria) Paulus of Loxley, Ala.; six grandchildren; twogreat-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and a sister, ElvaMae (Barney) Smith of Freemont, Calif.

Services will be held in Lebold Funeral Home at Bolivar, O., onWednesday, Sept. 1, 2004, at 11 A.M. with Rev. Blanche Tyreeofficiating. Archie Gibbons

Archie L. “Bud” Gibbons, 88, of Barnesville, Ohio, died Friday, August29, 2014 at Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehab. He was born September12, 1925 in Jerusalem, Ohio, son of the late Irvy M. Gibbons andLettie E. Stills Gibbons.
He was retired from Perkins Construction and also worked as a dairyfarmer. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, older vintage trucks and cars,and especially pies and homemade bread. Archie was a loving anddevoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and proudly served hiscountry in the United States Navy during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sistersand six brothers.
Archie is survived by his wife of 67 years, Viola (Stephen) Gibbons;daughters, Linda J. (Richard C.) Swallie, Cathy J. Leasure; sonWilliam E. (Bernice) Gibbons; sister, Janet Whiteley all ofBarnesville, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and soonto be one great-great-grandchild.
Honoring Archie’s wishes, private funeral services will be conductedTuesday. Reverend Gene Miller will be officiating. Interment will beat Ebenezer Cemetery.
