Hobert F. Stephen age 88 of Massillon, passed away on April 25, 2014.He was born Nov. 10, 1925 in Woodsfield, Ohio to the late Dewey andSulia Stephen. Hobert retired from Timken after 39 years and was theowner of Stephen Landscaping for 55 years. He was a member of theDisabled American Veterans Chapter 17 and he enjoyed hunting deer inhis free time. Hobert is survived by his loving wife of 69 years,Betty; children, Vicki (Richard) Burckhart, Ruth (Dale) Wheeler,Scotty (Deborah) Stephen, and Belinda Albery; 12 grandchildren; 18great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was retired from Bennoc Coal and was a member of VFW Post 2792 andAmerican Legion Post 168.

Garold L. "Groundhog" Carpenter, 47, Temperanceville, died WednesdayMay 15, 1991 at his home.  He was born May 3, 1944 at Calais,  son ofthe late Louie and Marjorie Stephen Carpenter.
He was a former steel inspector at LTV Steel, Canton and an Armyveteran of the Vietnam War.
He was preceded in death by one brother,  Joseph Dale Carpenter;  twosisters,  Geneva Carpenter and Ruth Maxine Carpenter.
Surviving are his wife,  Dorothy Marie McGinnis Carpenter ofBarnesville;  one daughter, Denise A. Carpenter of Barnesville;  twosons, Garold L. Carpenter of Gahanna and Brent D. WOODSFIELD---Hilda M. Burkhart, 74, of Woodsfield, died Wednesday(Feb. 7, 2001) at Bishop Joseph H. Hodges Continuous Care Center,Wheeling, West Virginia.
She was born June 5, 1926, near Miltonsburg,  daughter of the lateClemence and Victoria Carpenter Butler.
Mrs. Burkhart was a homemaker and a member of St. Sylvester CatholicChurch, Woodsfield, where she was a member of the Purgatorial Societyand the Catholic Women's Club.  She was a member of Loyal Order ofMoose Auxiliary of Woodsfield.
She leaves her husband, Herman J. Burkhart, whom she married June 8,1943;  a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Marlene) Yonak Jr. of Centerville;three sons, Donald (Marlene) Burkhart of Malaga,  Gary (Victoria)Burkhart of Woodsfield and Terry (Carol) Burkhart of Raleigh Durham,N.C.;  a brother Vernon (Cinderella)  Butler of Woodsfield;  a sister,Mrs. Glenn (Hazel) Kanzigg of Beallsville;  eight grandchildren andseven great-grandchildren.

Herman J. Burkhart, age 89, of Woodsfield, Ohio died Thursday April22, 2010 at the Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He wasborn near Temperanceville, Ohio April 3, 1921 a son of the lateAnthony & Rose Hughes Burkhart.
Herman was a member of the St. Sylvester Catholic Church ofWoodsfield, Knights of Columbus, St. Francis Society, Barnesville ElksClub, and the Moose Lodge of Woodsfield, and was a former member ofthe Woodsfield Village Council.
He had worked for Timpken Roller Barring, Conalco Corporation, was aformer Deputy Sheriff, former owner of the Corner Grill in Malaga, andwas a car salesman for Caldwell motors, Simmons Chrysler, and KnowltonFord.
Preceded in death by his wife: Hilda Butler Burkhart - Feb. 2001,brothers, Frederick L. Burkhart, and Charles Burkhart, sisters ClaraMiller, Margaret Nau, and Marie Miller.
He is survived by his daughter Marlene (Frank) Yonak, Jr. ofCenterville, Three sons, Donald (Marlene) Burkhart of Malaga, Gary(Victoria) Burkhart of Woodsfield, Terry (Carol) Burkhart -Hillsborough, North Carolina, eight grandchildren, and thirteen greatgrandchildren.

He was born June 29, 1922, in Monroe County, son of the late Clem andVictoria Carpenter Butler.
Mr. Butler retired from Construction and Christman Quary and was atrustee for Seneca Township for 20 years.
He was a Catholic by faith and a member of St. John the BaptistCatholic Church of Miltonsburg.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Brandon Butler; a sister,Hilda Burkhart; and a brother-in-law, Glenn Kanzigg.

Gertrude B. "Gertie" Passwaters, 91, of Zanesville, Ohio died at 10:41a.m. Tuesday September 15, 2009 at Genesis Good Samaritan HospitalCritical Care.
Gertie was born September 10, 1918 in Monroe County, Ohio, thedaughter of the late Cecil Carpenter and Martha Burr. She retired fromGreif Brothers after 30 plus years as a Corrugator Operator. She was amember of Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church, United MethodistWomen, past president of Sidwell Circle, was a wonderful volunteerworker for the church, enjoyed crocheting and supported manycharities.
Gertie worked during WWII in San Bernadino, CA, in support of the wareffort.
Surviving Gertie is a son, Gary L. (Frances) Passwaters of Zanesville;daughters, Carol (Carl) Hayes of Quaker City, Ohio; and Linda (John)Crum of Parkersburg, WV; step-son, John (Jack) Passwaters of SpringHills, FL; grandchildren, Susan (Randy) Chute, David Crum, CrystalCrum, Stephanie Crum, David (Lee) Hayes, Tammy (Craig) Reynolds andMisty (Keith) McGlade; 11 great grandchildren; step-grandchildren,John, Eric and Robert Passwaters; several step-great grandchildren;nephew, Ernie Haga, Jr.; and many other nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, John Passwaters whodied June 14, 1976; sister, Isabelle Haga; grandson, Stephen Crum; andseveral aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mildred C. Mason, 83, of Lake Worth, Florida, formerly of So. MariettaStreet, St. Clairsville died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004 in Atlantis,Florida.
She was born at Maynard on July 16, 1920, a daughter of the lateForest L. Carpenter and Rosa Gallagher Carpenter.
Mildred was a member of First Presbyterian Church at St. Clairsville,a member and past worthy matron of the former St. Clairsville Chapter#510 Order of Eastern Star and current member of Bridgeport Chapter#452, a member of the Daughters of the Nile at Wheeling and a friendof St. Luke's United Methodist Church at Lake Worth, Florida.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband,Henry Francis Mason on March 15, 1986; her son James Henry Mason onMarch 3, 2000 and her sister Norma Swallie in March of 1996.
Surviving is her daughter-in- law, J. Diane Moore Mason of Lake Worth,Fla., with whom she resided.

She was born in Malaga, Ohio and had been a Barberton resident for thepast 44 years. Deveda was a member of the Barberton Church of Christ,former member of the Boston Church of Christ in Boston, Ohio, VFW Post2792 Ladies Auxiliary in Barnesville, Ohio and the Barbeton SeniorCenter. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, reading, taking care of herfamily and especially the weekend trips with her daughters.
Preceded in death by her parents, Oliver and Oma Carpenter, husband,Harold Miller; son, Stanley "Bud" Miller, Ronald and Wesley Carpenter;survivors include sons, Wes of Barberton, Wayne (Janet) of Kenmore,Joe (Karen) of Norton, and Jim (Kim) of Barterton; daughters; ShirleySandi of Copley, Donna (Terry) Selogy of Barberton, and Linda(Michael) Heiney of Clinton; daughter-in-law, Michealine Miller ofClinton; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and her brother,Lawrence Carpenter.

Mr. Carpenter, a native of Tempernaceville, died Thursday (Nov. 18,1971) following a long illness.
Born Aug. 5, 1929, he was a son of Oma Gallagher and the late OliverCarpenter and had served with the U.S. Army.
He had been employed as a television technician with the R.C.A.Factory Service Co., Cuyahoga Falls and was a member of InternationalBrotherhood of Electrical Workers.

construction accident.  He was born May 12, 1922 in Belmont County, ason of
Oma Gallagher Carpenter and the late Oliver Carpenter.
He was preceded in death by one brother Wesley in 1971.  He was amember of
the Church of Christ, a veteran of W.W. II, a life member andPast-Commander
VFW Post 2792, Barnesville; member American Legion No. 168; and lifemember
DAV Chapter 121, Barnesville.
Surviving are his wife Mary Stephen Carpenter of the home; two sons,Keith
