Marlie Lodena Christman, 76, of Jerusalem, Ohio died Tuesday, June 30,2009 at the Emerald Pointe Nursing and Rehabilitation Center,Barnesville, Ohio.
She was born in Calais, Ohio on April 22, 1933 a daughter of the lateJames Chester and Ocie Carpenter Mercer.
She was a homemaker; a Methodist by faith; an avid quilter and lovedgardening.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband,Walter Ralph Christman on November 4, 1996; three brothers, DonaldMercer, Ellis Mercer and Joseph Mercer; five sisters, Bonnie Egger,Martha Lou Betts, Nancy Crum, Opal Mercer and Betty Mercer.
Surviving are two sons: Ralph Keel (Penny) Christman of Barnesville,Ohio and Ryan Todd (Robin) Christman of Jerusalem, Ohio; one sister:Emma Bates of Jerusalem, Ohio; one brother: Jim (Betty) Mercer ofJerusalem, Ohio; five grandchildren: Meredith, Hannah, Mallory, Dulcieand Cade; several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Watters Funeral Home, 37501 StateRoute 78 West, Woodsfield, Ohio from 6-9 P.M. Thursday, July 2, 2009where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 3, 2009with Rev. Richard Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in the CalaisCemetery, Calais, Ohio.

Walter Ralph Christman

WOODSFIELD--W. Ralph Christman, 65, of Jerusalem, died Monday (Nov. 4,1996) at Wheeling Hospital, Wheeling, W.Va.
He was born Nov. 30, near Calais, son of the late Walter F. and LuluJ. Wehr Christman.
He was a retired heavy equipment operator for the Ohio OperatingEngineers Local 18, Akron. He was Protestant by faith. Mr. Christmanowned and operated a farm near Jerusalem for more than 40 years.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Neva Christman, JanicePowell and Florence Wells; a brother Clyde Christman.
He leaves his wife, Lodena Mercer Christman, whom he married Dec. 21,1957; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ralph Keel and Penny Christman ofBarnesville and Ryan Todd and Robin of Jerusalem; four sisters,Katherine Miller of Cuyahoga Falls, Mrs. Melvin (Eva Pearl) Kennon andMrs. Charles (Peggy Jo) McLaughlin both of Barnesville, and DorisGreen of New Philadelphia; two grandchildren; several nieces andnephews.

2374. Nancy J. Mercer

Nancy J. Crum, 60, Jerusalem, Ohio died December 15, 1996, in DruidCity Hospital, Nashport, Alabama.  She was born April 22, 1936, inCalais, Ohio,  daughter of the late James and Ocie Carpenter Mercer.
She was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church and Order ofEastern Star Chapter, 24, Beallsville, Ohio.  She was a retireddietary supervisor at American/Woodsfield Nursing and RehabilitationCenter.
Surviving are her husband, Clayton, whom she married on May 22, 1954;four sons, Reggie and Marlene, of Cottondale, Alabama,  Brent and Pat,and Shawn all of Jerusalem,  Brain "Buck" and Sharon of Woodsfield;  adaughter, Mrs. Tod (Thalia) Kahrig, of Woodsfield;  one brother, JamesMercer of Jerusalem and three sisters, Lodena Christman,  Mrs. Bert(Emma) Bates and Ocie McFrederick, all if Jerusalem;  and 10grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infantdaughter, Tama Lodena;  three brothers, Donald, Joseph and EllisMercer;  four sisters,  Betty Mercer, Bonnie Egger,  Opal Mercer andMartha Lou Betts.
Friends were received December 19 at Harper Funeral Home, Beallsville,where services were held December 20,  with Rev. Richard Wilsonofficiating.  Interment followed in Beallsville Cemetery.  MonroeCounty Beacon 15 December 1996.


Syvester Bert Bates

Woodsfield - Sylvester Bert Bates, 67, of Jerusalem, died Monday (Dec.15, 2003) at Genesis-Good Samaritan Hospital in Zanesville.
He was born Feb. 16, 1936, near Senecaville, son of the late Roy andEthel (Clark) Bates.
Mr. Bates was a former employee of Conalco Corp, in Hannibal, and wasa retired electrician for the Ohio Valley Coal Co. at Alledonia.
He was a member of Old Bates Hill Church of Christ, near Summerfield,and was an avid fisherman and hunter.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Fred, Earl, Joe and JackBates.
He leaves his wife, Emma Mercer Bates, whom he married April 21, 1956;a daughter, Mrs. Chuck (Denelle) Kinney of Jerusalem; a son, Eric(Tonya) Bates of Beallsville; a sister, Pearl Allbritain ofSummerfield; a brother, Eugene "Jeep" (Roberta) Bates of Quaker City;five grandchildren, Chad Kinney, Whitney Kinney, Alie Bates, GageBates and Amanda Bates, and several nieces and nephews.

QUAKER CITY--Helma Quanita Marshall, 84, of Quaker City, died Saturday(March 14, 1998) at Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center,Cambridge.
She was born Feb. 14, 1914, in Calais,  daughter of the late Otis andMamie Carpenter Starr.  Mrs. Marshall retired after 25 years as an LPNat the former Cambridge State Hospital.  She was a member of theSenior Citizens Center at Quaker City and the Central Christian Churchof Quaker City.
Her first husband, Edson Sickle Forsythe, whom she married on Oct. 17,1934,  died on Dec. 16, 1966.  In addition to her first husband,  shewas preceded in death by two brothers,  Ural and Hubert Starr, and asister Una Smith.
She leaves a son,  Howard (Maxine) Forsythe of Cambridge; twobrothers,  Edward (Georgiana) Starr of Barnesville and Gene (Olive)Starr of Zanesville;  four sisters,  Wavie Richardson of Zanesville,Mrs. William (Lucille) Dollison of Quaker City,  Emma Brownfield ofAlliance and Mrs. Patrick (Norma) McCort of Temperanceville;  astep-grandson, Jeffery Lewis of Pickerington;  astep-great-grandchild;  an uncle Edson Carpenter;  a sister-in-law,Grace Forsythe Danford;  and several nieces and nephews.

Edson C."Sickle" Forsythe

Funeral services were held Wednesday of this week at 1 P.M. at theEberle Funeral Home, Quaker City, for Edson C. (Sickle) Forsythe, 69,of Quaker City, who died Monday Dec. 16, at Good Samaritan Hospital,Zanesville.  He had been a patient at the hospital since Nov. 24th buthad been ill for some time.
Born April 9, 1899 at Quaker City, he was the son of William and MaryStoneburner Forsythe.  He was a retired employee of the CambridgeState Hospital and was a member of Central Christian Church.  Inearlier years he was a member of the well know Quaker City baseballteam,  also of the old Quaker City Band.
Surviving are his widow, the former Waunita Starr;  a son, Howard C.of Cambridge;  two sisters, Mrs. Sylvia Carpenter and Mrs. GraceDanford of the Quaker City route.

QUAKER CITY--Services will be 11a.m. Monday at Thorn-Black FuneralHome Quaker City, for Paul E. Marshall, 86, who died Thursday (Feb.28, 2002) at Southeastern Med. Cambridge.
Burial will be in Guernsey Memory Gardens.

He was born March 12, 1915, in Guernsey County, son of the lateWilliam and Anna (Creighton) Marshall.
Mr. Marshall was a construction worker for the Paul LittleConstruction Co. for many years and he also worked at the formerCambridge State Hospital as a construction work from 1952-1981.
He was a member of the Old Washington Presbyterian Church.
He help start the Old Washington Volunteer Fire Department,  where hewas also a former member.
He was preceded in death by his first wife,  Blanche (Watson)Marshall;  his second wife,  Juanita (Forsythe) Marshall; and twobrothers.
He leaves his wife, Wanda Marion (Keeling) Layman Marshall of thehome,  whom he married Nov. 17, 1998;  a step-son, Howard Forsythe ofCambridge;  and several nieces and nephews.  Sunday 3 March 2002Jeffersonian.

Waive H. Richardson, 94, of Barnesvillle, died Monday, April 12, 2010at the Barnesville Health Care Center. She was born October 31, 1915near Calais, OH daughter of the late Otis and Mamie Carpenter Starr.
She was a member of the First Christian Church, Barnesville, worked asa nurses aid at Good Samaratin Hospital and retired from UnitedTchnology, Zanesville, OH.
She was preceded in death by her husband -Walter Richardson; infantson; daughter - Sandra Faye Clift; brothers and sisters - Ural, Gene,Hubert and Edward Starr, Juanita Marshall, Emma Brownfnield, and UnaSmith and grandsons - Darrin and Nathan Clift.
Survived by son - Virgil (Carol) Neuhardt of Barnesville; sisters -Lucille Dollison of Quaker City and Norma McCort of Temperanceville;grandsons - Keenan, Charles, Dwayne, Patrick and Anthony Clift; 7great grandchildren and 2 step great grandchildren.

William C. Dollison

BRILLIANT---William C. Dollison, 83, of Quaker City, died Sunday (June4, 2000) at Woodsfield Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Quaker City, son of the late Roy and OmaMcConnell Dollison.
He was a retired rural mail carrier and a Protestant by faith.  He wasa U.S. Navy veteran having served in World War II, where he earned aPurple Heart.
He was a member of Quaker City American Legion Post 337,  the DAV,Barnesville and Elks Lodge 1699 Barnesville.
He leaves his wife, Lucile Starr Dollison, whom he married Nov. 25,1940,  a son Billy E. (Judy) Dollison of Byesville;  a sister, Mrs.Dean (Bertha) Hartley of Columbus;  two grandsons and fourgreat-grandchildren.

STARR, Edward M., 87, of Barnesville, Ohio, died Thursday, June 11,2009 at Emerald Pointe Nursing Home and Rehab.
He was born June 21, 1921 in Calais, Ohio, a son of the late Otis andMamie Carpenter Starr.
Ed was a kind, loving husband of 67 years, generous and caring to hisfriends and family alike.
He was retired from Quinn Coal Company. He served his country in theU.S. Army during World War II, participating in the European Theatrefor three years and was a lifetime member of the Barnesville Veteransof Foreign Wars.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sonsHerbert and Hubert Starr, grandson Eric Wise, granddaughter Amy Starr,sisters Waunita Marshall, Emma Brownfield, and Una Smith and brothersUral Starr, Gene Starr and Hubert Starr.
Surviving are his wife Georgianna Brownfield Starr, whom he married onJanuary 29, 1942, two daughters; Judy (Jerald) Wise, of Cailis, Ohio,and Helen (J.K.) Larrick of Cambridge, Ohio, grandchildren JarodMcPeek, Erica Kuhn Dyar, Hannah and CeeJay Michel, Alyson, Taylor andMadison Johnson, Spencer and Marcus Wise, Ashley Larrick Jones, J.R.Larrick, Alexis, Abbey, Olivia Starr, Ethan and Emma Pack and DanteCorbett, great-great-grandchildren; Hunter Templeton, Katelyn andAdien McPeek, Jase Kuhn, Trey Larrick, sisters Waive Richardson,Lucille Dollison, Norma McCort and his 104-year-old-aunt Laura Gibson.
