Subject: Male Descendants John Carpenter 1854 to 1821
Dear John
I had not tracked all the Carpenter Descendants only those that were directly attached to my Herbert Family Tree and then only so far. (William Carpenter married  my 2 Great Grandmother's sister (Srash Ann Herbert) and Edwin Carpente, William's Cousin, then married my 2 Great Grandmother's niece Sarah Sanders)
So I have taken time to fill in the many gaps. It then took quite a white to check it and write it up  what I'd found.
Attached my "report" on what I managed to glean
I cannot positively identify any male descendants for John, his father or his grandfather but I have identified 6 possible lines of enquiry.
All require a lot more research and would need to purchase birth marriage and death certificates to prove descent.
Hope this is useful and if there are any typos or any mistakes apologies
Sue Lomas

THE INFLUENCE OF THE CHAPEL
Respectability returned to the Carpenters of Foleshill with this family who
were worshippers at the Independent Congregational Church in Foleshill Road.
The children sang in the chapel choir, Thomas himself was a lifelong
teetotaller and a deacon of the Church who objected even to the use of wine in
the communion cup. His eldest brother and his family who kept the "General
Wolfe" Inn were not approved of - "they DRANK you know!" Three of his chidren
married three of the Whitmee family who shared their religious beliefs.
Thomas' working life started young; at the age of eight, he was a silk engine
turner. The complex machinery of the engine loom required turning by hand and
it was heavy work. The headmaster reported that many of his pupils found it
made them sick and dizzy.
His first wife died too young for her grandchildren to remember her, but they
remembered his second wife, Elizabeth Silverwood. She had no children of her
own and was a very particular lady. She had one of her grandchildren to Sunday
dinner after Chapel each week and it was an occasion ratherto be dreaded than
enjoyed.
It is her name which appears on the tombstone which still stands in the garden
outside Little Heath School. There is no memorial to Rachel. It was only a
short time before his death that Thomas finally managed to pay off the loan
from Cash's that had allowed him to restart the family business. He had been
bankrupted once. However he trained his sons in the weaver's skills and told
one of his grandsons, Tom, that it was still possible to tell a Huguenot
weaver by some particular methods that differed from the English ones.
Finally he took on his grandson, Francis, who had to leave school at 14
because there was no money to allow him to go to secondary school.
