Carpenter Male Descendants

Purpose To identify any living male descendants of John Carpenter 1854 to 1921

Method
1. To track all male descendants of John Carpenter 1854 to 1921
2. To track all male descendants of Samuel Carpenter, 1829 to 1860,  father of John Carpenter.
3. To track all male descendants of Isaac Carpenter, 1800 to 1876, grandfather of John Carpenter.

Factors
1. Isaac Carpenter was the “baseborn” son of Fanney Carpenter (see baptism St Laurence Foleshill and thus there is no  Y chromosome link to the earlier Carpenter Family.
2. UK Records in the 20th Century after 1939 are limited and the margin for error is ever present.
3. Carpenter is a relatively common name in the UK and in and around Coventry. When families move from Coventry they become more difficult to track
4. Each generation produced at least one John Carpenter and other non related Carpenter Families also baptised children as John. Although I am confident I have tracked the right people there is the potential for error.

Summary

1. John Carpenter has no known living male descendants but 2 potentials (For detail see Appendix 1)
◦ John Carpenter produced 6 children - 4 sons. Only one son, James Carey Carpenter, had sons. Of these, one died in,infancy: 2 reached adulthood Donald and Neville but no marriage has been identified for either.
2. Samuel Carpenter, father of John Carpenter has no known living male descendants but there is 1 potential (For detaile see Appendix 2)
◦ Samuel Carpenter produced 4 children, 3 sons. Carey who died aged 10: John (See Above) and Edwin. Edwin had 4 children, including 2 sons Sydney/Sidney and John. Both married and had children but only John  produced  a son, John William Carpenter. There are at least 6 possible marriages for him.
3. Isaac Carpenter, grandfather of John has no known living descendants, but potentially a 4 Great Grandson and 2 other potentials. (For detail see Appendix 3)
◦ Isaac Carpenter had 7 children including 3 sons. One died in infancy. The youngest Samuel (see Above ) The eldest William married, had 1 son William. The grandson William had 9 children 6 of whom were male. The eldest 2 died in infancy. The other 4 reached adulthood and married.
◦ Of the great grandsons John had 2 sons - only 2 times great grandson John Alec (Alick) had sons. Only 3 times great grandson Peter William Carpenter married Marian Elizabeth Edith Elliot. They may have had children but this is not proven. If so Mark A Carpenter born 1964 might be a living male descendant.
◦ Another of Isaac's great grandsons Thomas Carpenter had 3 sons. One 2 great grandson Thomas had a son James Grant who married and may have male descendants. The other 2  great grandson Eric had a son Roger W - there a several possible marriages but none proven

Conclusion
John, Samuel and Isaac Carpenter  do not have any known proven living male descendants.

However there are 6 possibilities which will cannot be ruled out but require the purchase of birth, marriage and/or death certificates to prove descent.

· Marriage(if any) and death certificates for the Grandsons of John Carpenter 1854 to 1821 - Donald and Neville Carpenter and then birth certificates of any male children.
· Marriage Certificate (if any) for John William Carpenter Great Grandson of Samuel Carpenter and then birth certificates of any male children.
· Birth certificate of Mark A Carpenter born 1964 potentially 4 Great Grandson of Issac Carpenter to confirm parents.
· Birth certificates of any children born to James Grant Carpenter
· Marriage certificate and then birth certificates of any male children for Roger William Carpenter..
