Zimmie was employed at Central Soya in Gibson City for 25 years (1947-1972) holding the position of weighmaster. He also worked for Howard Arnold Trucking (1972-1982) doing road work and hauling gravel. He later worked at Farmers Grain Elevator in Fairbury (1982-1992).
Zimmie enjoyed Nascar racing and, in his early years, was a driver at a lot of the central Illinois dirt tracks for various owners. He was an avid boater for many years and was quite the water skier. Never to be the one to sit still very long, he made his rounds daily with stops at all the coffee shops, K&S, and Popejoy’s to see what else was new. We’ll miss him.
