Bio: John Solon Griffith passed away Saturday, March 8, 2003 in the Sherwood Nursing Home, Bryan, Texas. Mr. Griffith was born in the Reliance Community of Brazos County. Following the loss of his father, he moved to Bryan, Texas, with his mother and brothers. There he attended school and was active in several sports.In the late 1930's, he began working for the Texas Highway Department. He then moved to Hempstead as the first Waller County Engineer, later returning to the Department until his retirement in 1975 after 38 years with the Texas Department of Highways. He moved to Bellville and returned to Bryan in 1995.
Mr. Griffith enjoyed golf, photography and traveling. He was a Past Elder of Bellville Church of Christ and a member of Central Church of Christ in Bryan.
He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Lynn Griffith and Ralph Griffith; and his wife of 69 years, Margaret Emily Hopper.
Survivors include his daughter & son-in-law, Sarah Lou & Calvin Chamberland; three granddaughters and their spouses, Lois & Dave Brokenbourgh, Lisa & Rick Palmer and Laurie & Gary Gerke. Five Great Grandchildren, Frances Palmer, Bryan Palmer, David Nolen, Jason Gerke and Claire Gerke.
A visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at the Hillier Funeral Home, Bryan, Texas. Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Hillier Funeral Home with Mr. Bob Wolfert officiating. Interment will follow in the Reliance Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Central Church of Christ or to a charity of one's choice

Mrs. Lily Zimmerman, wife of Jim Zimmerman, died at the family home beyond the city limits, Wednesday evening, after a severe attack of small pox. The funeral was held this evening with burial at the old Tryon church near Kurten. Mrs. Zimmerman was 29 years of age, a consistent member of the Christian church and was formerly Miss Lily Black of North Zulch. She is survived by her husband, who is very ill and a small son and daughter.

Funeral services are set for 2 p.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Cross Cemetery Church with interment to follow immediately at Cross Cemetery. Truby was born to Curtis Shelby and Media Williams Clary on August 29, 1914 in Brazos County, Texas.
She lived in Channelview, Texas most of her married life and moved back to Bryan in the late 1970's.
She moved to Oregon State to live with her grandson Brad and his wife Stormy.
Truby was a member of the Reliance Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star of Bryan.
Truby was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jimmie Lee Zimmerman and a daughter-in-law, Pat Buckalew Zimmermann. She is survived by her sons, W. Sherman Zimmermann and J. Shelby Zimmermann; grandson, J. Brad Zimmermann and wife Stormy; granddaughter, Denise Thompson and husband Jim; great-grandchildren, Jack Zimmermann, Chance Zimmermann, Trevor Zimmermann, Jacob Zimmermann, Alex Cessac, Georgia Cessac; great-great granddaughter, Kaylin Zimmermann; numerous nieces and nephews.Married James Lee Zimmerman

August 3, 1912 – August 7, 2010Lela Lloyd, 98, of Bryan passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 7, 2010, at Crestview Retirement Center in Bryan. Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, August 10, at Hillier Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, at Reliance Baptist Church. The Rev. Ray Marshall will officiate. Interment will follow at Reliance Cemetery.
Lela was born on August 3, 1912, in Bryan to J.M. Zimmerman and Lillian Black. She and Russell Aubrey Lloyd were married in Bryan. Lela loved her family unconditionally. She was a member of Reliance Baptist Church since 1942, where she was a beloved Sunday school teacher for more than 40 years, and the Eastern Star No. 222 in Bryan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell; and brother, Jimmy Lee Zimmerman.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Jimmy and Barbara Lloyd of Bryan and Dr. John and Frances Lloyd of Louisville, Ky.; five grandchildren and their spouses, John Lloyd of Madisonville, Ky., Dr. Jerry and Brandi Lloyd of Bryan, Russell and Vicki Lloyd of Louisville, Ky., Rebecca Lloyd of Tucson, Ariz., and Judson Lloyd of Houston; six great-grandchildren, John, Jacob and Katie Lloyd, all of Bryan, Dwaynne and Elizabeth Lloyd of Houston, Elaine "Laine" Lloyd of Louisville, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Martha Jean and Glen Carpenter of Livingston, Texas; sister-in-law, Truby Mitchell of Austin; and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice Brazos Valley or Reliance Baptist Church.

Donald Eugene "Don" Spencer * * SPENCER, Donald Eugene, was born Dec. 19, 1932 in Abilene, Tx. to Ellis Wathron SPENCER (FG # 41278258) & Pauline Margaret ZIMMERMAN SPENCER (FG # 29321831), who preceded him in death. * * On Nov. 1, 1995, at nearly 63 years of age, Don met his Lord and Savior face to face, as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Raton, N.M. Upon completing high school at Abilene High in Abilene, Texas, Don pursued his degree in marketing/advertising at the University of Texas, where he married Rita Bonifield, his Abilene sweetheart, 41 years ago. * * After graduation in 1955, Don worked in four other cities before settling in OKC in 1965 with Ackerman Advertising. At the time of his death, he was traveling for U.S. Printing & Ink as a technical sales representative. Don sang for the USO and was on the lecture circuit for the Jaycees. * * While living in Dallas, his glorious tenor voice was heard as soloist in 'The Messiah'. He sang with the Canterbury Choral Society of OKC as well as the Chapel Choir of Metropolitan Baptist Church. Don served the Lord by teaching Sunday School classes at Metropolitan to 1st, 5th, 6th & 7th graders for the past 30 years. * * He also was able to serve as a deacon, willing to tackle any job. * * Whatever Don did, he did it as unto the Lord, to the best of his ability. He dearly loved his family and they always knew they were the most important to him. He was greatly loved by family, friends and customers. Don had a servant's heart, never thinking himself above any task. Upon hearing of his death, one man said "A mighty man of God has fallen! And a mighty man of God has risen! Kenneth Wayne Spencer, 77 passed away on December 3, 2018 in Magnolia, Texas. He was born on November 25, 1941 to the late Ellis and Margaret Spencer in Abilene, Texas. Ken enlisted in the Navy in 1958 and served on Active Duty in both the Navy and the Army until 1970. During this time he served in Vietnam in 1968 and 1969 as a Marine Engineer in the Army. From 1970 to 1991 he served in reserve units in several branches of service. He was on Active Duty in the Air Force Reserves as a Medical Service Technician in early 1991 during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. He retired from the Air Force Reserves in 1991.After his active duty service in 1970, Ken worked in various oil related industries until his retirement in 1996. He was particularly proud of his work as a 3rd party inspector with the National Board Commission.
Ken had a tremendous sense of humor and was a very personable individual.
He was an avid reader of books about military strategies and battles and enjoyed learning about the events occurring during World War II.We honor Ken who dedicated his life to serving his country in War and Peace.
