Which line is he from?

1544. Henry Carpenter

Most of Henry Carpenter's family settled around Lena, Indiana which is located at the corner of three counties, Parke, Putnam and Clay; therefore, sometimes the family will be in the census of one county one time and in another the next. However, they mostly show up in the Putnam County, Madison Township records.

Parentage listed as given, but some online genealigies have him as a son of Fredrick Carpenter (1750-1829) and Christena Jane ____ (1772-1849). Sadly documentation is lacking.

Joseph Carpenter was born Joseph Zimmerman but his father changed thier name to Carpenter probably because Carpentry was their trade and the animosity shown to German, Irish and Asian decendents during this time in the mid 1700's.
