NOTE: This is consistent with the John Carpenter (b. 1790 Lincoln County, NC) father of Christian (b. abt 1814), John Jackson (sic John G. b. 1821) and Thomas (b. 1817). The Moses is unknown.
The Jonathan (looks like Jonathan to me on the census image) in Willow Fork Township is in the 30<40 age. He has 2 females 0<5 and 1 female 20<30. For age purposes, this fits your John Carpenter. If it was 1 female and 1 male child under age 5 this would match the 1850 US Census in ages of your John Carpenter. No other Carpenters seen on the census page, nor adjoining pages.
In the 1830 US Census, I see a John (40<50 & 50<60) & Jonathan (40<50) in Cooper & Clay Counties, MO respectively.
