25. Thomas Carpenter

NOTE:
Carpenter's Farm is in today's Holmes County, Ohio.  In 1783 this was part
of VA or PA.  This area was disputed territory between the states.
It was not until 1787 with the establishment of the Northwest Territory
treaty which prevented the eastern seaboard states from extending their
territory westward.  Ohio became a Territory in 1799 and the 17th state in
1803.  Holmes county was created in 1824 from Coshocton county which was
formed in 1810 from Muskingum county which was formed in 1804 from the orginal
Washington County which was formed in 1788.
Carpenter's Fort was near present day Warrenton, Warren Township, Jefferson, OH about 85 miles or so away.

WIKIPEDIA:
Carpenter's Fort or Carpenter's Station as it was sometimes called, was established in the summer of 1781 when John Carpenter built a fortified house above the mouth of Short Creek on the Ohio side of the Ohio River in what is now Jefferson County, Ohio, near Rayland, Ohio. John Carpenter, born c1737-1738, died in Aug 1806 in Coshocton County, Ohio, reportedly served in the American Revolutionary War from Virginia under George Washington.

Hi, John. I pick my genealogy from time to time with long stretches of quiet as life deals circumstances. I found a section of your Carpenter tree in family search. Thanks for posting; some of the info was new to me. I am the great-grandaughter of Mary Ann Carpenter Greenwood. She died at a young age of a brain tumor. Interestingly, my mother also had a brain tumor, but not cancerous. She lives still - now in a nursing home in Maine.
