Bertha "Esther" McCarty

Bertha McCarty passed away peacefully on March 8, 2009 at the Hospice Care Center in Grand Junction. She was 90 years old. Bertha was born on July 22, 1918 in Glade Park, Colorado to W. H. and Anna (Getty) Carpenter. Bertha grew up in Glade Park. She married Robert A. McCarty on April 9, 1939 in Palisade, Colorado. He passed away on February 20, 1974. Bertha was a homemaker and belonged to the Royal Neighbor organization. She enjoyed fishing, dancing at the center in Grand Junction, taking long car rides and doing embroidery work. Bertha was known for the beautiful smile she always had on her face. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her son, Richard (Judy) McCarty, Mancos, CO; two daughters, Betsy (Don) Fears, Fruita; Roberta (Don) Luellen, Colville, Washington, three sisters; Virginia Hawkins, Kentucky; Emmaline Burns, California; Pauline Edwards, California; nine grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Graveside services will he held on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the New Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, CO. Special thank-you to Dr. Cooper who always took good care of her and the staff of Family Health West, especially Maria, and Hospice. Arrangements entrusted to Snell-McLean Funeral Home.

Ivan E. Carpenter passed away May 28, 2008 at Fruita Health West Hospital in Fruita, CO. He was 81. Ivan was a long time resident of Fruita. He worked at the Fruita Thrift Shop for many years and loved to sing and dance before his health failed in recent years. He will be missed by those who knew him. Ivan is survived by sisters, Bertha McCarty of Fruita, CO; Virginia Hawkins, of Kentucky; Emmaline Burns, of Tracy, CA and Pauline Edwards, of Alituras, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Lucille Shellenbarger and Iva Mae Ireland, brothers, Eugene and John. Visitation will be Friday, May 30, 2008 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Snell-McLean Funeral Home, Fruita, CO. Graveside to follow at 2:30 p.m. in the New Elmwood Cemetery, Fruita, CO.
