Dale Austin Carpenter,84, of Linton, passed away at home, with family by his side, at 12:54 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012.

He was born March 27, 1928, in Linton, the son of Frank and Ruth (Rollins) Carpenter.

Dale worked many hard years as a farmer with his wife working by his side. He attended Sassafras School and was a graduate of Switz City Central High School. He enjoyed many summers in Canada and winters in Florida, fishing and camping. He was a member of the Linton First Christian Church and attended the Linton First United Methodist Church for several years. He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #866 in Linton. He also served many years as president of the Greene County Drainage Board and maintained Sassafras Water Company.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, whom he married Feb. 5, 1950, Gloria Mae (Hamner) Carpenter; two sons, Bill (Diane) Carpenter and Danny (Teresa) Carpenter, both of Linton; three grandsons, Steve (Chantel) Carpenter, Mike Carpenter, and Eric (D'Lee) Carpenter; two granddaughters, Brandy (Clayton) Kohlman and Danielle (Brett) Feltner; eight great-grandchildren, Trent, Trey, Whitney, and Dalton Carpenter, Graysun and Amasa Kohlman, and Hayden and Avery Feltner; and a sister, Norma (John) Stuller of Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Frank Wayne Carpenter; and a brother-in-law, Charles Hamner.

Gloria Mae Carpenter, age 83, of Linton, went to be with The Lord, surrounded by her family at her home, at 2:25 A.M. Wednesday, December 9, 2014.  She was born in Greene County, on May 3, 1931, the daughter of Lucien & Ruie (Perkins) Hamner.

Gloria was a hard working woman who worked on the farm, along side of her husband, Dale, who she married on Feb. 5, 1950.  She was an Avon Representative for 49 years and helped establish Sassafras Water Company in 1965 in the small rural area of Sassafras in Linton, Indiana.  She enjoyed fishing & camping, spending many summers in Canada and winters in Florida.  She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and playing cards with her friends.

She was a member of the Linton First United Methodist Church for several years.

She is survived by two sons, Bill (Diane) Carpenter and Danny (Teresa) Carpenter; three grandsons, Steve (Chantel) Carpenter, Mike Carpenter, and Eric (D’Lee) Carpenter; two granddaughters, Brandy (Clayton) Kohlman and Danielle (Brett) Feltner; eight great-grandchildren, Trent, Trey, Whitney, & Dalton Carpenter, Graysun & Amasa Kohlman, and Hayden & Avery Feltner; and a sister-in-law, Norma (John) Stuller of Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband of 62 years, Dale Carpenter on May 19, 2012, her twin brother, Charles Hamner, and sibling, Guy Porter Hamner.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014, Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.  Burial will follow at Prairie Chapel Cemetery in Lyons.

John Edward Stuller, 89, of Switz City, passed away on July 12, 2018 at the Shakamak Good Samaritan Center in Jasonville, IN. He was born on August 13, 1928 in Sullivan, Indiana and resided most of his life in Anderson.

He served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He worked for Container Corporation of America for 36 years and retired in 1990.

John is survived by his loving wife, Norma Jean (Carpenter) Stuller; sons, Frank (Candy) Stuller of Markleville, IN, and Donald (Kim) Stuller of Switz City, IN; grandsons, Craig (Toni Tolliver) Stuller, and Zachary Stuller; and great-grandson, Marty Tolliver. Bio: Donald W. ‘Don’ Stuller, 61, of Switz City, IN, passed from this life with his loved ones at his side, on October 12, 2019, at his residence.  He was born on April 2, 1958, in Anderson, IN, to John E. and Norma J. (Carpenter) Stuller.  On December 29, 1979, he married Kim R. Rose.

Don worked for Nutrien Ag Solutions with almost 40 years of service. He truly enjoyed ‘family time’ and spent his leisure time fishing, making knives and carving.

Family left to cherish Don’s memory include:  his wife, Kim Stuller; son, Craig (Toni) Stuller of Chicago, IL; grandson, Marty Stuller; mother, Norma J. Stuller of Linton; brother, Frank L. (Candy) Stuller of Markleville, IN; a nephew, Zach Stuller and his nieces Megan D. Mason and Alexis D. VanDeventer.

Don was preceded in death by his father.

A funeral service honoring Don’s life will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, 2019, at Meng Family Funeral Homes, Anderson-Poindexter Chapel in Linton with Cory Wiggington officiating. Don will be laid to rest in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Lyons.

Family and friends may call from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Wednesday, October 16, prior to the service at the funeral home.

Perry Ray Carpenter, 78, of Lyons, passed away on Wednesday, July 13 at Greene County General Hospital.

Born May 5, 1938 in Linton, he was the son of Gail E. and Agnes Irene (Dove) Carpenter.

He retired as a farmer, logger and a school bus driver. He attended the Lyons Assembly of God Church. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, antique cars and being a mechanic.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Etta Jean Carpenter; his children, Debra Criss (Jack), Susie Carpenter Hamilton, James Scott Carpenter, Todd Carpenter (Juli), Andy Carpenter (Jeri), Tim Carpenter (Laura) and Dianna Fulk (Onnie); two sisters, Dolly Pickett and Nancy Gillespie; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sherry Axe and Linda Canady and his parents.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 18 at Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons, with Rev. Gerald DeVore officiating. Interment will follow in Switz City Cemetery.

Public visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday and one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.

Nancy Y. Gillespie, 76, of Switz City, passed away at IU Health in Bloomington on Friday, March 30, 2018.

She was born in Greene County, the daughter of Gail Carpenter and Agnes Irene Dove Carpenter. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Herbert David Gillespie, in 2016.

She is survived by a son, Kevin Pope (Cheryl) of Columbiana, Ala.; a daughter, Tammy Morris (Aaron) of Bloomfield; a sister, Dollie Pickett of Switz City; and five grandchildren, Jarrod (Ashlie), Ashley (Tyler), Kenzie, Brittany (Josh) and Keith.

Funeral Services will be Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at 1 p.m. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to PKD Foundation. Arrangements were entrusted to Newkirk’s Funeral Home.

Herbert David “Butch” Gillespie, 74, of Dugger, IN passed away at 2:05 AM Saturday, December 5, 2015 at his residence.
He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, February 5, 1941 the son of Herbert Gillespie and Margaret Osting Gillespie.
David was retired from Otis Elevator in Bloomington, IN he was the last Ferry Operator in Worthington, IN. He also attended the Assembly of God Church in Lyons, IN, was a member of the Sons of American Legion Post #224 in Dugger, IN.
He was an Avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing, hunting and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, also a son; David Wayne Gillespie, two brothers; William Armstrong and Larry Armstrong and one grandchild; Rylan.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Nancy Carpenter Gillespie whom he married October 24, 1980, one daughter; Tammy Morris (Aaron) of Bloomfield, IN, two sons; Kevin Pope (Cheryl) of Alabama, Jason Bush (Lisa) of Bloomington, IN, one brother; Michael Gillespie (Bonnie) of Plainfield, IN, four grandchildren; Ashley Arnold, Kenzie Morris, Jarrod Pope, and Keith Pope, sixteen great grandchildren and a sister in-law Sis Armstrong of Dugger, IN.
Funeral services will be at 2:00PM Tuesday December 8, 2015 at Newkirk’s Funeral Home in Dugger, IN. Burial will follow in the Burris Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00PM until services Tuesday.
