262. Marquis De LaFayette Carpenter

Notes for MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE CARPENTER:
Marquis Carpenter is entered in the different census year under MDL, Lafette, Layfayette, Marquis so I did find him. 1880. He was evidently married at least twice and maybe 3 times. I found Illinois marriage records for MDL Carpenter to an Elizabeth Flora on 6-18-1861 and then to a Clarissa Tamer on 9-22-1866 but in the 1880 census he is maarried to a Jonna (Joana) age 36 and they have 4 children, Amerlia, James, Susan, John I would suspect Joanna Clay is a 3rd wife.

Mary C. Jackson

AGE: List as age 25 - born about 1855 and married in 1866?  Married at about age 11?
Mary's husband is listed as age 30 - born about 1850 but we know his actual birth year was 1839.  If there is a 5 year difference in age - she should then have been born circa 1845.

Notes for MARY C. JACKSON:
Mary married a 2nd time to Joseph Stein of Urbana 13 Jan 1919

OBIT:
S.W. CARPENTER (Samuel Woods Carpenter), miller, Dix, was born in Knox Co., TN on January 5, 1812, son of Benjamin and Melia (Shook) CARPENTER. Her father, William Shook, was a native of Germany, and her mother an Englishwoman. Both died in Bedford Co., Tenn. Our subject's father was engaged in boating on the Mississippi River at the time of his death, but his family resided in Indiana at the time. His widow then removed to Tenn. with her family to her people, where they resided until January 1830 when they came to Jefferson Co., where she died. She was the mother of seven children, only two of whom still survive--our subject and Jesse W., now of Texas. Our subject has made this county his home since 1830. Till about 1860, he had given his entire attention to farming. He then, in partnership with his son William R., purchased their present mill, which they have run to do custom grinding. He also MAXEY has a farm of seventy-seven acres which he oversees. March 7, 1833 he was married to Lucinda O. STOCKTON. She was born in Illinois, daughter of Robert and Phoebe STOCKTON. Twelve children have been born to Mr. and Mrs. CARPENTER, nine of whom still survive--Phoebe C.MAXEY, Robert W., William R., Margaret Spiller, Mary L. Frost, Jemima M. Beagle, Sarah T. Williams, Helen M. METZENTHIN, and Isaac D. Mr. and Mrs. CARPENTER are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, and he has been since he was sixteen years of age. Jane Carpenter Carpenter

Birth:  1819
Todd County
Kentucky, USA
Death:  1900
Missouri, USA
*** I believe that Jane might be buried in this cemetery because of her husband and some of her 13 children are in this cemetery. The headstone is missing, but the base is still there.
Headstones in the Carpenter Cemetery =
3 rows, East row going south to north = Sarah, George, William, John M., Infant son of JS & Jane, Infant son of
JS & Mary
Middle Row = 3 small stones (large brick size) J.C.; J.C.;
J.W.L.
West Row = John, Jane,Jacob, (a missing headstone), unreadable stone, unreadable stone. (John, Jane, Jacob are the only stones still standing) That makes 14 stones and a base stone.
Old time records = johnc: John and Jane Carpenter are buried in the Earl Decker Family Cemetery west of Syracuse, Morgan County, Missouri near the Earl Decker farm. "The Cearley Connection" By Geraldine Butler.
Jacob S. Carpenter married Jane Carpenter on 12 Dec 1841 in Morgan County, MO.
