Subject: [Carpenter Cousins Google Groups] Fielding CarpenterHello,
Thank you for allowing me to join the group. I don't know a lot about the Carpenter's which is the reason I joined. I have researched some on them. I know Fielding Carpenter and Delphia Bragg are showing up as my 5th great grandparents. Fielding Carpenter had a son Joseph Jesse Carpenter who married Nancy Runyan. They had a daughter Caroline Carpenter. (I've seen her name Caroline, Carlita and Carlisle Carpenter.)Caroline Carpenter married Mckinzie Willis (Mack). Mack was suppose to be the son of Edward Willis and Mourning Miller. Mack and Caroline had 3 known children to my knowledge. James Willis, Edward Willis and Dora Jane Willis.
Dora Jane Willis was born abt 1883 in Madison Co. Ky. She married William Orville Brewer. A son of John C. (Blacksnake) Brewer and Maggie Pickett. On 30 November 1899 • Jackson County, Kentucky. Dora's mother Caroline must have died young and it appears that Dora may have lied about her age when she married. The census is a little off and I also can't find a death for her anywhere. I have been searching since 1996.
Dora Jane Willis and Wm Orville Brewer had 5 known children to me and some others that died young. Dora's last child was Francis Pearl Brewer born 10 JULY 1911 • Blue Lick, Madison, Kentucky. After this Dora and Francis both disappear from the census and Wm. Orville Brewer remarries Hester Overby the 20 November 1915 • Laurel County, Kentucky. No children were born between them.
The other children of Dora Jane Willis and Wm. Orville Brewer was Sam Brewer who died as a child, Robert "Riley Bob" Brewer, Martin Luther Brewer and the oldest my great grandmother Alma Lee Brewer. Alma married Chester Gregory.
That is one Carpenter connection. The other is John "Doc" Carpenter born 30th May 1904 and died 10 April 1949. He married Cecilia Brewer. They both are buried in Carpenter Cemetery in Jackson Co. Ky. The connection here is Cecilia and Wm. Orville Brewer was siblings. The children of John C. "Blacksnake" Brewer mentioned above.
The children of John "Doc" Carpenter and Cecilia Brewer was as follows:
1. Maggie Carpenter
2. John Carpenter
3. Leonard Carpenter
4. Ercell Benton Carpenter
5. Denver Carpenter
6. Sylvester Carpenter
7. Leona Carpenter
8. Rhonda Carpenter
9. Virginia CarpenterNow I joined this to learn more about my Carpenter line but to also find out if anyone can help solve the great mystery of Dora Jane Willis. Family stories tell that her mother was Native, and Dora did die young and Alma Brewer Gregory my great grandmother had to quit school and help her father raise her brothers. However, Francis Pearl Brewer is totally MIA too!! Now I'm seeing a tree with a surname hooked to her and it is saying "Carpenter's A Plenty. This is Thru Lines. I have come across news clippings of how Wm. Orville (Arville) Brewer sold his crops to the Carpenter's and rented a house to them. I am wondering if Francis Brewer wasn't raised by a Carpenter.
Once again thank you for allowing me to join. I have done my DNA and my brothers but of course that will not show up Carpenter. The Carpenter's show up only as Autosomal DNA since we are Gregory's. I do have GEDMatch, and Family Finder and am on Ancestry. I am on Facebook under Karen Nicely in Carlisle, Ohio. I am very willing to work with others.
Thank you,
Karen Gregory Nicely
