William A Carpenter
Birth: 23 Dec 1830 Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana, USA
Death: 14 Nov 1902 (aged 71) Exira, Audubon County, Iowa, USA
Burial: Exira Cemetery, Exira, Audubon County, Iowa, USA
Memorial #: 55058374
Bio:
William was the son of Ruben Carpenter.  He married Martha H Johnson in June 22, 1856 Audubon county, Iowa.  They did not have children but adopted a daughter, Anna.

Nov 20, 1901 - Audubon County Journal- William Carpenter was born in Green Castle, Indiana, December 23, 1930, and died at his home in Exira, Iowa, November 14, 1902.

He was one of the earliest pioneers of Audubon county, coming here in 1852 and four years later married Miss Martha Johnson, theirs being the first marriage certificate
issued in the county. Their entire married life extending over a period of nearly half a century was spent in this county, except five years during which they resided in Taylor county.

During their residence in the latter place they united with the Baptist church, and after their return there being no organization of that denomination here, Mr. Carpenter
never identified himself with any of the churches represented in Exira but ever cherished a kindly feeling for all of them. He was a man honorable and upright in all his dealings with his fellowmen. Quite and reserved his acquaintances were few but his friendships lasting. For several years he had been in failing health but not until a few days previous to his death was he confined to his bed. Although loved ones assisted by neighbors and the Knights of Pythias, of which he was an honored member, could alleviate his sufferings, they could not stay the hand of death, and on Friday noon his spirit was released from its frail tenement of clay to be with God.

His wife and one daughter, Mrs. B.R. Leamon, of this city are left to mourn the loss of a kind husband and father, two sisters, Mrs. Stanley of Decatur, Iowa, and Mrs. Burge of Anita, Iowa, and six brothers, Mr. David Carpenter of Spokane, Washington, Mr. Elijah Carpenter of Gazelle, California, Frank, John, Henry, and Reuben Carpenter, of Brownell, Kansas, are also living.

The funeral services were held at the Congregational church Sunday morning, Nov. 16, conducted by the pastor, W.W. Hartsough, assisted by Rev. H.I. Wissler. The Knights of Pythias took charge of the remains after the services at the church and conducted a beautiful and impressive burial service at the grave. Interment in Exira cemetery.

Birth: 8 Sep 1840 Ohio, USA
Death: 21 Nov 1926 (aged 86) Greene County, Indiana, USA
Burial: Tulip Cemetery, Bloomfield, Greene County, Indiana, USA
Memorial #: 12251032
Bio:
Mrs. Margaret (BLAND) (CARPENTER) SULLIVAN, daughter of James and Lydia BLAND and widow of Jonathan SULLIVAN, was born September 10, 1840, and departed this life November 21, 1926, at the age of 86 years, at the home of her son, David SULLIVAN, of Lyons.
She was in failing health for sometime and was confined to her bed for two months.
Mrs. SULLIVAN spent most of her life near Bloomfield, but recently moved to Lyons. She was a member of the Church of God at Sharkey.
She was united in marriage to Mahlon CARPENTER, to which union were born five children of whom three survive, namely, George CARPENTER, of Bloomfield; Mrs. Frank ANDERSON, of Unionville; and Sarah BURCH, of Solsberry. Mr. CARPENTER having passed away, she was again united in marriage to Jonathon SULLIVAN, of Bloomfield.
To this union were born four children, all of whom survive, namely, Mrs. Charles TURNER, of Bloomington; Mrs. Walter GROW, of Lyons; David and Frank SULLIVAN, also of Lyons.
She also leaves to mourn her departure two brothers Roland and Allan BLAND, of Newark and thirty-seven grandchildren.
We mourn not as those who have no hope as the deceased expressed to her children that she was ready to go, whenever the Lord would call for her.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday Nov. 23, by Rev. Charles SIMS, at the Church of God at Old Tulip. The remains were laid to rest in the Tulip Cemetery.
