Isaac D. Carpenter, a retired farmer, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Walter Crosnoe, Virginia Ave., at 3:15 p.m. Sunday. He had been ill for several months. His age was 80 years, 10 months, and 27 days. In addition to Mrs. Crosnoe he is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Minnie Berry of Stockton, Calif. and two sons, C. C. Carpenter of Johnston City and S. W. Carpenter of Long Beach, Calif. He had made his home with Mrs. Crosnoe for the past two years. Funeral services will be held at Winfree Chapel. Interment will be made in Oakwood cemetery.

Jasper Carpenter, the senior member of the firm of Carpenter & Johnson meat market on Henderson St in Oaklawn, committed suicide at 5:30am Tuesday morning by shooting himself through the head with a 28 calibre revolver. Such, in substance, was the verdict rendered by the coroner's jury which held an inquest over the remains of the aged man Tuesday morning. Carpenter whose family resides at 2111 East Main St, since last July has been sleeping in the rear of the meat market on Henderson Street, being separated from his wife. Although the room was within a short distance of several houses, no one seems to have heard the shot which caused the death of Carpenter..
Despondency over his domestic affairs is thought to be the cause of his rash act although he has been in the best of spirits the past few days. The revolver with which he committed the deed, was identified by several members of his family. His wearing apparel was in perfect order and that he took his time about the matter is known by the fact that he took such perfect aim, the ball entering the right temple and coming out a little above the left temple. The gun was pressed close to his temple and covered with blood as was the wall close to his couch. The instrument of death was clasped tightly in his right hand when his body was found. It is understood that the wife of the deceased had instituted divorce proceedings against him a short time ago which worried him greatly at times. The remains were taken to the Turner Learnard & Sons establishment where they were prepared for burial. The funeral arrangements have not been completed yet by the family, all whom reside in Oaklawn.
The deceased was 64 years of age and had been a resident of Illinois for the past 50 years, He is the father of eleven children, two by a former marriage and nine by his last marriage, all of whom survive him. The following are the children by his second marriage and who will have charge of his remains. Ira, Harry, Offo and Otto all of whom reside in Oaklawn. Alva Carpenter of Urbana and Lewis who resides in Oklahoma. Miss Grace and Mrs. Eva Williams of Oaklawn and Mrs. Cora Humphrey of Wabash, Ind. The remains will be taken to the family residence at 2111 East Main Street where the funeral will be held..

Mrs. Carpenter was born in Kentucky but had lived in Illinois for the past forty years. She was 56 years of age. Surviving are six sons and four daughters. Her husband died Nov 6 1906. The family formally resided at 2111 East Main St, but some time ago moved to 426 Gilbert Street, where they purchased property. The remains have been removed to the home
The funeral party will leave the residence Sunday afternoon at 1pm proceeding to Oliver Presbyterian church in Oaklawn where at 2pm the funeral service will be held conducted by Rev JH Morphis, the pastor. Burial will follow in the Lynch Cemetery
Her parents were Milton John Jones and Elizabeth Susan DeSpain. Her family moved from Green County, KY to Randolph County, IL before 1860. She was the mother of 12 children
