Ruth M. Kelch, 96 of Payette passed away Tuesday, February 23, 2016. She was born July 25, 1919 in Ironside, Oregon to Mary and Alfred Carpenter. Her family moved to Payette in 1941. She married Ford Anderson and they had 4 children together. They were later divorced and she married Percy Kelch. After her marriage to Percy the couple moved to California for 3 years. When they returned to Idaho they moved back to the farm where she milked cows and raised chickens and chased children and grandchildren. She was a charter member of the Ontario Emblem Club #192 and loved sewing, her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her son Keith & Vicky Anderson of Payette, 3 daughters, Kaye Shippy of Payette, Kathy & Chuck Hoffman of Ontario and Sharla & Connie Weber of Payette, 8 grandchildren, Robert, Katrina, Michael, Teresa, Jeff, Todd, Tab, and Darin and several great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Percy, son-in-law Guy Shippy, a sister and 3 brothers. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2016 from 9 - 10 am at the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Payette with funeral services following at 11 am. Vault interment will follow at the Rosedale Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Elks Children’s Eye Clinic in care of the Ontario, Oregon Elks Lodge #1690, 20 SW 3rd St., Ontario, Oregon 97914

Clara J. Van Driesche, 93, a longtime Baker City resident, died March 28, 2005, at St. Elizabeth Health Services.

The rosary will be said Friday at 7 p.m. at Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. the Rev. Robert C. Irwin will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitations will be today until 5 p.m. and Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Clara was born Feb. 12, 1912, at New Plymouth, Idaho, to James Carpenter and Irene Castles Carpenter. She was a 1930 graduate of New Plymouth High School. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Golden Rule Department Store and then for White Hardware at New Plymouth.

She married Cyril Van Driesche on Feb. 24, 1938, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in New Plymouth. They lived their entire married life of 67 years in Baker City. Clara, with her husband Cyril, enjoyed 50 years of square dancing, playing bridge, and fishing. In her younger years she was active in church work.

Survivors include her husband, Cyril of Baker City; four brothers and two sisters, James Carpenter of Middleton, Idaho, Chester Carpenter of Eagle, Idaho, Donald Carpenter and his wife, Iris, and Bill Carpenter and his wife, Barbara, all of Meridian, Idaho, Evelyn Peterman of Meridian, Idaho, and Mary Cook and her husband, Jim, of Boise; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Russell and Francis; and two sisters, Dorothy and Eleanor.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis de Sales or the American Heart Association through Coles Funeral Home, 1950 Place St., Baker City, OR 97814.

Cyril E. Van Driesche 98, a life long resident of Baker City, Ore., died Friday July 10, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, July 16, 2009, 10 a.m. at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, 2235 1st St. Reverend Julian Cassar celebrant the Mass. Interment followed at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors were accorded by the Oregon National Guard Honor Guard. Visitation was held Wednesday, at the Coles Funeral Home from noon until 5 p.m.

Mr. Van Driesche was born April 5, 1911 in Baker City, Ore., a son of Julius and Alida (Scherrens) Van Driesche. He attended and graduated from St. Francis Academy in Baker City. He married Clara J. Carpenter at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in New Plymouth, Idaho.

He started working for the Oregon Lumber Company right out of high school in 1929. He worked 16 years and then went to White Pine Lumber Company, eventually working at Burnt River, then Ellingson Lumber Company working as a lumber grader until his retirement.

In 1941 he was drafted into the US Army serving in the 309th Combat Engineer, 54th Division and was involved in the Battle of the Bulge.

He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral.

Mr. Van Driesche is survived by a brother, Marcel Van Driesche, Oregon, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister and brother.

James William Cook of Boise, passed away peacefully May 21, 2016 at the age of 95 surrounded by his loving family.
James "Jim" Cook, was born March 20, 1921 in Greeley, Nebraska. He was the son of Nicholas and Stella Maria (Canning) Cook.
Jim grew up in rural Greeley, Nebraska and was baptized at St. Michael's in Spalding. He attended school in Scotia and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1941.
He entered the U.S. Army in June of 1942 and served until October of 1945. He visited New Plymouth in 1947 and met the love of his life, Mary Carpenter. They were married in 1948.
Jim worked at various jobs before retiring in 1988 from Overhead Door Company after 35 years of service.
Jim was deeply devoted to his Catholic faith and was a Fourth Degree lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
He will be missed greatly by many, including his wife of 68 years Mary M. Cook; their 9 children, John (Gail) Cook, Cathy (Steve) Myers, Mike "Jim" (Jacque) Cook, Terri (Guy) Tomisser, Gayle (Ron) Ruffing, Lori (Brian) Mickels, Dorothy Woods, Ken (Kim) Cook, and Fr. Rob Cook; a sister, Anastacia Cannon; 23 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; older brother John Cook who died as an infant; twin brother, Fr. John Cook; and brothers Joe & Leo Cook.
A Rosary service will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with a viewing beginning at 6:30 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Graveside services will follow at the Parkview Cemetery in New Plymouth.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Legacy Hospice for their loving care.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to either Sacred Heart or St. Mark's Catholic schools in Boise.
