He was an Army Veteran of WW II and a member of Riverside United Methodist church. Mr. Carpenter had been employed at Tennessee Knitting Mills, as a car dealer and a courier for First Farmers and Merchants Bank. He had served as vice mayor of the City of Columbia for 12 years and a councilman for the fifth ward for 2 years. He was a member for over 50 years of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Service Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2007.

Mr. Adam Howard Kelly passed away at 3:15 a.m. on Monday, September 8, in the Hamilton County General Hospital.  Services were conducted at the Riley Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, September 9, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ronnie Horton and Rev. Sam Drake officiating.  Burial was in the Blue Ridge Cemetery.

Mr. Kelly was born to Thomas White and Mary Carpenter Kelly on January 13, 1894, in Travis County, Texas.  He was a storekeeper by trade and a member of the Baptist church.

He was married to Harriet Annie Williams Kelly on December 10, 1914.

Survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Mary Jane Gardner and Mrs. Ethel Kirkland, both of Hamilton; and four sons, John Kelly and Neal Kelly of Hamilton; Tommy Kelly of Tyler, and Charles Kelly of Hurst; one sister, Mrs. W. T. Collier of San Diego, California; and one brother, J. L. Kelly of Flint, Texas.  There are 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Pallbeares were Charnie Raibourn, Garland Anglin, Fred Pendleton, Charles Newsom, Hoyt Sleeper, and Milton Harelik.
