Mary Bruner, age 84, of Linton passed away peacefully at 3:05 A.M. Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Glenburn Nursing Home in Linton.  She was born in Greene County on October 6, 1935, the daughter of Irvin and Cayula (Stark) Carpenter.

She was a member of the Bible Wesleyan Chapel (formerly the Community Bible Church) in Linton.  Mary was a homemaker and enjoyed being with her family.

She is survived by five sons, Robert Irvin (Anita) Bruner of Worthington, Melvin Lee (Rita) Bruner of Bloomfield, Michael Dale (Joleen) Bruner of Oaktown, Gary Dean Bruner of Danville, and Daniel Eugene (Rhonda) Bruner of Wheatland, a brother, Loren Thomas Carpenter, two sisters, Adah Glenn of Linton and Reba Welch of Sullivan, six grandchildren, and several step and great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Robert Bruner, brothers, Ronald Carpenter and Paul Carpenter and a granddaughter, Julie Racey.

A private family funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M., Monday, May 11, 2020 with Howard Dick officiating.  A private family visitation will be held from 11 A.M. until the time of service.  Burial will follow at Stafford Cemetery.

Robert Lee Bruner, age 80, died Tuesday evening, December 9, 2008, at his residence in Linton.
He was born in Rushville on July 29, 1928, the son of Clyde S. & Mary A. (Mowery) Bruner.
He was a United States Army veteran, serving in the 765th Battalion during the Korean War.
He was retired from Amax Coal Company, Minnehaha Mine, in Dugger.
He attended the Bible Wesleyan Chapel (formerly the Community Bible Church) in Linton.
He is survived by his wife whom he married on Oct. 20, 1952, Mary E. (Carpenter) Bruner of Linton, five sons, Robert Irvin (Rita) Bruner of Sullivan, Melvin Lee (Rita) Bruner of Bloomfield, Michael Dale (Joleen) Bruner of Washington, Gary Dean (Leslie) Bruner of Lake Worth, Florida, and Daniel Eugene (Rhonda) Bruner of Wheatland, a brother, Vernon L. Mowery, three sisters, Bonnie E. Phillips, Doris J. Hasler, & Elsie Fay French, all of Linton, seven grandchildren, several step & great grandchildren, an aunt, Martha Uland of Bicknell, an uncle, Guy Mowery of Frankfort, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, & two sisters.
Funeral Service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. Friday, December 12, 2008, Rev. Richard D. Birden officiating. Burial will follow at Stafford Cemetery near Sandborn with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post #22.

Ronald R. Carpenter, 70, of Linton passed away Tuesday morning October 18, 2011 at IU Health Bloomington.

He was born May 9, 1941 in Greene County, the son of Irvin and Cayula (Stark) Carpenter.

He worked at General Electric in Linton and drove semi trucks for GIBCO.  He was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church in Midland where he served as a Deacon.

Survivors include his wife Bonnie S. (Houchin) Carpenter to whom he was married December 23, 1976; five daughters, Patty Lynn (Kevin) Vaughn of Brazil, Linda (Alvin) Myers, Laura (Mike) Faulk, Kathy Jo (Bryan) Cullison, and Donna (Ronnie) Myers, all of Linton; a son Travis (Niki) Jerrell of Linton; a brother Loren Carpenter of Marion; two sisters, Mary Bruner of Lyons and Adah Glenn of Linton; a twin sister Reba Welch of Bloomington; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson Ronnie Keith Myers III, and a brother Paul Carpenter.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 22 at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton with Dr. Bradley Darr officiating.

Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

The family has suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Lebanon Baptist Church Building Fund through the funeral home.

Bonnie S. Carpenter, age 81, of Linton, passed away peacefully at 10:09 A.M. on Thursday, January 23, 2020, at her residence.  She was born in Linton on June 13, 1938, the daughter of William & Bessie (Higar) Houchin.

Bonnie retired from General Electric in Linton after 28 years of service.

She enjoyed attending church at Lebanon Baptist Church where she has been a member for many years. She also enjoyed fishing, planting flowers, crocheting, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by  three daughters, Linda (Alvin) Myers, Laura (Edward McDaniels) Faulk, Kathy (Bryan) Cullison, all of Linton, a son, Travis (Brickston) Jerrell of Linton, a step-daughter, Patty Lynn Vaughn of Brazil, son-in-law, Ronnie Myers, fourteen grandchildren, & thirteen great-grandchildren with twins due in May, and two sisters, Maggie Corns of Lyons and Daisy Clark of Ellettsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, David Francis Jerrell and Ronald Carpenter, a daughter, Donna Myers, two brothers, Jerry and Billie Houchin, and three sisters, Dorothy Barnaby, Alice Griffith, and Mary Hale, and a son-in-law, Mike Faulk.

Funeral service will be held at Welch & Cornett Funeral Home in Linton at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, January 27, 2020, with Dr. Bradley Darr officiating.  Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-6 P.M., and Monday from 11 A.M. until the time of service.

She was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Newberry, the daughter of Perry and Nettie Jane Eaton Carpenter.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Rowe of Lyons; three daughters, Rosemary Malone of Switz City, Betty Joan Montgomery of Jasonville and Thelma Joy Gardner of Lyons; three brothers, Leon and Paul Carpenter of Linton and Gail Carpenter of Switz City; one sister, Madge Young of Osceola; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents two brothers.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Jenkins Funeral Home in Lyons with the Rev. Steve Brinson officiating. Burial will be in the Sandborn Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 9 p.m.  Friday.

LYONS- John P. Rowe, 80, of Lyons passed away Monday Morning at his residence.

He was born Feb. 12, 1910 in Sandborn, the son of David and Mary (Richey) Rowe. He was a farmer, and retired in 1978. He was a member of the Switz City Full Gospel Church.

Survivors include three daughters: Rosemary Malone of Switz City, Bettey Joan Montgomery and Thelma Joy Gardner, both of Lyons: a brother James Rowe of Bicknell; three sisters: Flossie O'Brien of Lyons, Minnie Sterling of Bedford and Katherine Cooksey of Bicknell; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen (Carpenter) Rowe, on April 16, 1986; a son, John P. Rowe Jr.; his parents; four brothers; and one sister.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Jenkins Funeral Home Lyons with the Rev. Samuel Hill officiating. Burial will be in Sandborn Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home 2-9p.m. today and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services on Wednesday.

Agnes Irene Carpenter, 83, of Jasonville, passed away at 1:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Bloomington Hospital. Born April 6, 1921 in Greene County, she was the daughter of Elmer and Myrtle (Padgett) Dove. She had been married to Gail E. Carpenter, who passed away Dec. 3, 1990.
She was a factory worker from Sarkes Tarzian, retiring after 27 years of service and was a member of Lyons Assembly of God Church and attended Jasonville Church of God.
Survivors include: one son Ray and his wife Jean Carpenter of Lyons; four daughters, Dollie and her husband Ray Pickett of Switz City, Nancy Y. and her husband David Gillespie of Dugger, Linda and her husband Albert Canady of Midland, and Sherry and her husband Glenn Orman Axe of Jasonville; one sister Rosie Trusty of Vicksburg; 18 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gail E. Carpenter, two brothers, one sister, two grandsons, and two great-great granddaughters.
Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. today at Burris Chapel Cemetery, Sullivan County, with Brother Gerald Dove officiating. Burial will follow at the cemetery.

Paul W. Carpenter, 88, of Linton passed away Monday December 18 at Sullivan Co. Community Hospital. Born May 29th, 1918, in Gray, Okalahoma, he was the son of Perry and Nettie (Eaton) Carpenter.
He married Lurene Fulk Nov. 14, 1946.
Paul was a WW II Veteran of the US Army, where he earned the American Defence and Theater Ribbons, and Good Conduct and Victory medals.
He worked at NWSC Crane in the Electronic Mechanics and Gun Mount division until retirement in 1979. He was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Lurene, two sons: Mark D. (Sandy) Carpenter of Linton and David C. (Kambi) Carpenter of Sullivan; and six grandchildren: Joshua Paul Hudson, Bryce, Elizabeth "Izzy", and Chase Carpenter, and Ian and Ashton Alsman.
He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Madge Young and Helen Rowe; four brothers: Gail, Leon, Frank, and Irvin Carpenter and a stillborn infant granddaughter, Brandi Sue Carpenter.
Friends may call fro 4:00 to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, December 20th at the Anderson-Poindexter Memory Chapel in Linton and from 10:00 AM until the hour of service on Thursday, December 21st at the Fellowship Baptist Church.
The service will be Thursday, December 21st at 2:00 PM at the Fellowship Baptist Church with officiants Rev. Warren Allen and Dr. Dean Hartman.
Burial and Military Graveside Rites will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Linton.

Luella is survived by a brother Kenneth Carpenter of Bloomfield, two sisters Deloris Carpenter Cundiff of Bloomfield and Wilma Mae (John) Dunn of Greenfield, Indiana, niece Amy (Mike) Shorter of Lillington, North Carolina and April (Marc) Ranard of Friendswood, Texas and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister Mary Janet Snyder, one brother Delbert Lee Carpenter, a sister-in-law Evelyn J. (Love) Carpenter, a great niece Brooklin Shorter and her parents.

A homemaker, she attended Mt. Nebo Church and Pleasant Hill Church. She was a 13-year volunteer at Ketcham Memorial Center.

She is survived by daughters and son-in-law, Jean DeVine of Odon and Joyce and Donald Pergal of Indianapolis; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Ruth Barker and Steve and Janice Barker, all of Newberry; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Pauline Hasler and Marcella Sakalauski, both of Odon; and brother, Wendell Carpenter of Bloomfield.

Her husband, John H. Barker Sr., preceded her in death in 1984. Two sisters, Vernal Twombly and Vivian Barker; four brothers, Kenneth, Leroy, Cletus and Loveall "Johnny" Carpenter; and two grandsons are also deceased.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home in Odon with Rev. Bob Duley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Nebo Cemetery.

Emma Carpenter, 100, of Gifford passed away Thursday evening (Nov. 7, 2019) at Country Health Care and Rehab, Gifford.

She was born April 4, 1919, in Gifford, a daughter of Heiko and Grace (Miller) Kuhlman. She married LeRoy Chester “Cotton” Carpenter on April 10, 1943, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gifford. He preceded her in death in February 1995.

She is survived by three children, Ron (Pat) Carpenter of Laguna Woods, California, Shirley LaBounty of Gifford and Connie (Paul) Severins of Gifford; 10 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by six sisters, a brother, three grandchildren and a son-in-law.

Emma was a lifelong member of St Paul’s Lutheran Church. She owned and operated the Gifford Pool Hall for many years and worked as a cook at the Oasis in Penfield until she was 86! She was an avid Cubs fan and truly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
