Notes for JAMES C. CARPENTER:

James C Carpenter, was drafted at Cumberland co Ky about 1 April 1814 into an Infantry commanded by Edward Wilburn in the 14trh Reg Kentucky detached Militia commanded by Col. Parker.
He was honorably discharged at Burksville, Ky 12 June 1815 having taken part in the battle of New Orleans. Sometime before 1830 they moved to Indiana. They were in Floyd Co in 1830 , Harrison Co in 1840 and Crawford co in 1850. He died in Monroe co Indiana as the family was moving to Illinois and Rebecca and the 4 youngest sons came to Illinois and settled in Champaign co. It is said they had 12 children 3 born Kentucky and rest born in Indiana. Only nine lived to maturity.
James C Carpenter stated he moved with his parents to Kentucky where he was raised . after the war of 1812 he returned to Kentucky and began farming and married and they after the birth of 3 of their children they moved to Floyd Co Ind and then had 9more children. They sold farm and prepared to move to Ill but he died suddenly in 1854 at age 72. The mother and 3 sons went to Urbana Ill.

James M. Carpenter son of James C., bio stated that his paternal great grandfather was born in England and at very early day came to Virginia. His maternal great grandfather was a native of England and was a drummer boy in the British army during the Revolutionary War and he came to the new world. At the end of the war he decided to stay here and married and located in Virginia. He lived to be 110.

James, George, Marcus(Marquis de Lafayeete) Thomas living with them. They have 4 Paupers living with them also.

Elizabeth marriage to Franklin Scott is found in the marriage records of Crawford Co Indiana. Most of the material on her parents says Floyd Co Indiana but it is proven by the census and marriage records that they were in Crawford Co before moving on to Illinois.

In the Carpenter Family Bible, printed 1818, was listed of Carpenter Family, and copied by hand by an Aunt on the early 70's. There may exist a Court document record of a Suit against Ben Jr, brought by a Merchantile, and debt paid by Ben Sr. That information may be in the hands of a different cousin, and if it exists would be simpler to attain. Although it links the two, I do not believe is documents them as Father/Son.

113. James Carpenter

AFN T7KN-ZT (ABT 1778) and AFN MTLF-D3 (ABT 1782) appear to be the same person.

He migrated after 1812 with his second wife, Mahateth Mays, to Franklin
County, Alabama in a caravan of thirteen wagons headed by Enoch Carpenter.
Descendants are reportedly still there.
