INFORMATION: Tombstone, 1910 census Bell , 1920 Census Bell
The Carpenter came to TX from AL, first settling in the Maxdale
area of Bell . There Dick met and married Ella Hammock, and they
had lived in the Okay community where their first child was born in 1894.
They moved to Oakalla in Burnet  in 1996, settling on a part of the
Kincaid land, where they lived and reared their family until sometime in
the 1930s. Mahone Carpenter was born near Lanfort, AL. He enlisted
in the Confederate Army 25 Mar 1861, at Troy, AL, as a private in
Company K, 37th AL Regiment. He received a wound in the head at New
Hope Church.  He was captured at Vicksburg, 4 July 1863 and paroled. He
was in the battles of Kenesaw Mountain, Lookout Mountain, Missionary
Ridge and on the retreat from Dalton to AL.  He was discharged at
Greensboro,,NC.  In later years he received a pension for
serving.  Also he was blind.  I do not know if it was from wounds suffered
during the war service but suspect that it could have been.

CARPENTER DIES AT OAKALLA: From the Lampasas paper December 20, 1929: M.
Carpenter, age 88 years, was called by death Thursday evening, Dec. 19,
at 10:30 o'clock at the home of his son, D.L. Carpenter at Oalalla.
Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 3:00 and interment
following in the Copperas Cove cemetery. Rev. A.C. Donath, paster of the
Baptist Church of Lampasas conducted these last and rites. Mr. Carpenter
was born in the state of AL, March 25, 1841. He served with an
AL regiment during the entire duration of the Civil War. He was a
lifetime member of the Methodist Church and lived the life of a
consecrated christian. Mr. Carpenter with his family lived fot many years
on a farm at Maxdale but since the death of his wife some six years ago
he has been making his home with his children and at the time death came
was residing at the home of his son, D.L. Carpenter at Oakalla. He is
survived by the following sons and daughters: D.L., of Oakalla; John F.,
of Childress; W.L., of San Angelo; A.C., and J. N., of Lampasas; Mrs.
W.A. Whittenburg of Lometa; Mrs John Sawyer and Mrs W. Walter Smith of
Lampasas. Friends of the family extend deepest sympathy to them in this
hour of their bereavement.
Mahone was listed as taxpayer of 1850 in Bell .
Mahone served for the Confederacy during the War between the States. IE The
Civil War.
