Fort Barrancas
Fort Barrancas (1839) or Fort San Carlos de Barrancas (from 1787) is a United States military fort and National Historic Landmark in the former Warrington area of Pensacola, Florida, located physically within Naval Air Station Pensacola, which was developed later around it.[3][4]
The hill-top fort, connected to a sea level water battery,[5] overlooks Pensacola Bay.[6] From 1839–1844, the historic Spanish fort on the hill was reconstructed and dramatically expanded in brick. This is now termed "Fort Barrancas". The older, water battery downhill (Baterie de San Antonio, 1787) has been separately named as "Fort San Carlos".[7] It is a remnant from the Spanish fortification, the wooden (Spanish: Fuerte) Fort San Carlos de Barrancas of the late 18th century.
Due to changing requirements, the U.S. Army deactivated Fort Barrancas on April 15, 1947 following World War II. Designated a National Historic Landmark (NHL) in 1960, the fort was transferred to the control and administration of the National Park Service in 1971. After extensive restoration during 1971-1980, Fort Barrancas was opened to the public.

I’m finally OK with stating that Emma Louise Barnes married Tom Cheek second. Some sources also have him as her first husband. Findagrave has two Mary Massey’s with slightly different details as Tom’s second wife but I think that is because the records came from two different contributors.

I've never been happy with how info for Gus does not seem to "fit" nicely. He sounds like he was cantankerous and with four marriages he has a lot of room for (potential) error given the volume of info associated with him. One wife giving me problems is Emma Mae/May ___. Info goes back and forth whether she was born Parker and married first Taylor or vice versa, then married Gus. So I want to go back to the beginning and dump nearly all I have on her and start over. How would you guess from the below what her maiden name was? Note that she was on her second marriage by age 21.

There is a John D. Carpenter b Mar 11 1887 d Jul 25 1923 bur Stockton, Baldwin Co AL. Only the death year matches so this is only a guess. The only other Carpenter buried in Stockton come from a Carpenter line originating in Indiana.
BIRTH:
Some claim that he was born on 5 May 1896. BUT, that record is clearly a different John Carpenter who is cited as being "Black" and claiming to be a negro on the WWI Draft Record. Sadly they cite the wrong 1900 and 1920 US Census records as proof ignoring the conflict of data.

Mrs. Dorothy Nell Carpenter Baine of Samson, Alabama passed away Friday, November 16, 2012. She was 69.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, November 19, in the chapel of Sorrells Funeral Home in Geneva with Rev. Jimmy Eddins, Rev. Donnie Earles and Rev. Steve Young officiating. Burial will follow in the Travelers Rest Cemetery with Sorrells Funeral Home of Geneva directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, November 18, from 6 until 8 p.m.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the United Way (Spectra Care).
Dorothy was born March 15, 1943, in Coffee County, Alabama to the late David Benjamin and Rosie Viola Richardson Carpenter. For several years she worked as a Customer Service Manager for Wal-Mart. She later retired from Spectra Care as a Residential Manager with more than 18 years of service. She was known for her great cooking ability, especially her homemade biscuits, dressing and also chicken and dumplings. Affectionately known as "Dot", she was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was of the Assembly of God faith.
In addition to her parents her three brothers: David, Carl and Bennie Ray Carpenter, as well as one sister, Betty Sue Simmons, all preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Bennie F. Baine, Samson; two sons: Jeff Baine, Samson and John Avery Baine (Mindy), Eufaula; four grandchildren: Teera Baine, Memphis, TN, Yhonna Baine, Montgomery, Sierra and Ricky Baine, Eufaula; two sisters: Mary Morrow (Andrew), Samson; Lucille Pinner, Deltona, FL; one brother, Lamar Carpenter, Gotha, FL; several nieces, nephews, other extended family and a host of friends.

She was born July 14, 1927 in Coffee County, and had lived most of her life in Opelika. She was a member of Central Baptist Church, and the Kit Club at Central Baptist Church.
Mrs. Galimore was retired from Ampex Corp. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey E. Galimore.
Survivors include her daughter, Barbara G. Roberts of Opelika; sons, Howard (Elaine) Galimore of Opelika, Dewey L. (Brenda) Galimore of Plano, Texas; 5 grand-children, Keith (Cynthia) Dixon, Jay (Jenny) Galimore, Camron (Brad) Williams, Correy (John David) Miessner, Devin (Tracy) Galimore; 12 great grandchildren; extended family, Penny and Jeff Nolan, and Michael Nolan; and several nieces and nephews.
