730. Bose Carpenter

BIRTH: born in the Bastrop area of Texas

From Rick:
...
But I do know that Bose married Minnie Whitehead, b 1886, d 1982. I have extensive research on the Whiteheads because my great-great grandfather Henry Swepson Whitehead was a professional musician and quite a character (he called himself "Professor Whitehead" and taught violin lessons and ballroom dancing all over the state.) From what I've heard over the years, Minnie married Bose Carpenter when she was very young and the Whiteheads were disappointed that their oldest child married a farmer. But, Minnie's dad, James Veal Whitehead committed suicide in 1915 so the Whiteheads had issues, too. Bose was known to be a hot-headed jealous type. Some of Bose's sons grew up in Taylor, Texas and often got in fights and in trouble--some of the Carpenters are still there. My dad's oldest sister, Alma, was killed when her husband pushed her out of their car. But, a lot of the people settling the US in those days were pretty wild and crazy. It was rough back then. I hope this helps. If you find out more about the Carpenters, let me know. I've kept my dad's name because I'm a writer and that's how my Texas connections know me, but ironically, I know little about the family history."

From Kay:
My grandfather was Boze Carpenter, was born on Oct 3, 1877 in Jeddo, Bastrop, Texas. He died on July 23, 1967 in Taylor, Texas. FYI: Boze had a twin sister named Nettie Virginia Carpenter. She died on Apr 25,1965 in San Antonio, Texas. Boze and Nettie's parents were Samson J. Carpenter and Eliza Jane St. Clair.

John,
Yes there are male descendants of Tom Carpenter who are still alive! Let me tell you what I know:
Tom and Rosetta had boys Claude and Clyde, and girls Moselle, Nina and Pearl. Clyde died very young due to illness. It was something like Scarlet Fever, Whooping Cough, etc.... Claude married Bernice. They had three sons Claude Wayne or Claude Dwayne (aka Jack), Charles, and Melvin (deceased). Claude Wayne married Mary Lou and they have a daughter Cara. Charles married Mary Jo and they have 2 girls, Cindy and Terry. Melvin married Alice and they had sons Gary, Warren, and Travis. I keep thinking they had one more son. They also had a girl named Cheryl (deceased). I am not in touch with Melvin’s sons, but I believe they all have sons. Their sons will all carry the Carpenter name. I do stay in touch with Cindy Carpenter Reynolds, Terry Carpenter Stephens and Cara Carpenter Finn. Charles and Claude are getting up in age and not the best of health. I have contact with Charles’ current wife Cathy.

741. Henry Emmett Carpenter

NOTE: This person is a bit of a mystery.
He is clearly NOT the son of Warren Henley "Henry" Carpenter-139510 of Marion County, AL. That son Henry is accounted for.
He is clearly NOT the son of Sampson J. "Sam" Carpenter-199448 because son "Pete" is also well documented.
SO FAR - nothing about his ancestry is verifiable, especially his different given parents. I suspect that a formal or informal adoption ocurred (I.E. NPE).

COMMENT:
There is a Marion in Perry County, AL AND there is a Marion County, AL. There is some 120 miles difference.
