MRS D.L. CARPENTER DIED AT OAKALLA APRIL 1: Following a three-day serious
illness, Mrs D.L. Carpenter died at the family home in the Oakalla
community Saturday, April 1 at 1:15 p.m. She had been in failing health
for three years Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Banks from
the Oakalla Methodist church of which she was a member, Thursday at 2
p.m. and interment was in the Gillum cemetery. The delay in the services
was to await the arrival of some of the children. Miss Ella Hammock was
born in Bell  April 8, 1875. She was married to D.L. Carpenter
almost fifty years ago and they had lived in the Oakalla section since
1903, where she was well known and loved. She was a member of the
Methodist church and a devout christian. Surviving are her husband and
the following children: Mrs. Ted Whitis of Killeen, Mrs. D.H. Nix of
Breckenridge, Mrs. Albert McCoury of McAnnelly's Bend, Mrs. Raymond
Griffin of Lampasas, Mrs. Leamon Holloway of Richmond, CA, Mrs
Chester Ellis of Grow, H.B. Carpenter of Oakalla, J.M. Carpenter of
Roaring Springs, C.C. Carpenter of Muleshoe, besides a numder of
grandchildren and other relatives.
