Era G. Carpenter, age 85, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., died Sunday, Nov. 19, 2000, in a local hospital.Born on April 11, 1915, in Coffee County, Ala., she was the daughter of the late James Monroe and Claudia Eugene Nelson Galimore.
Mrs. Carpenter moved to DeFuniak Springs in 1950 and became the owner and operator of DeFuniak Springs Wholesale Co., which she maintained for the past 50 years. She was a charter member of Baldwin Avenue Baptist Church and very active in all church activities.
Mrs. Carpenter was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence C. Carpenter who died in 1987.
She is survived by a son, Harold Carpenter and wife Hilda of DeFuniak Springs; daughter, Griselda C. Weeks and husband Garlon of DeFuniak Springs; brothers, Leo Galimore of Enterprise, Ala., Orell Galimore of Atlanta, and Durell Galimore of Elba, Ala.; grandchildren, Mac Carpenter and wife Betty of Jacksonville, Fla., Lyn Keene of Niceville, Fla., Gwyn Hanks and husband Tom of Freeport, Fla., Angie Dickey and husband Tracey of Freeport, Greg Weeks and wife Cindy of DeFuniak Springs, Chris Weeks of DeFuniak Springs, and Mark Weeks of Ocala, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Tara Carpenter, Mac Carpenter II, Landon Hanks, Marc Keene IV, Cole Weeks and McKenzie Dickey; beloved caregivers, Ramona Moorehead and Pat Wells, both of DeFuniak Springs; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Baldwin Avenue Baptist Church with the Revs. Wilbur Kelly and Owen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Mac Carpenter, Greg Weeks, Chris Weeks, Mark Weeks, Landon Hanks and Marc Keene.
Comander Funeral Home, DeFuniak Springs, is in charge of arrangements.

Graveside services will follow at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday in the Ino Baptist Church Cemetery in Coffee County.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 until 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the mortuary in Headland.
Mrs. Carnley was born and reared in Geneva County, near Hacoda, daughter of the late Willie Lee Carpenter and Ophelia Johnson Carpenter.
She moved to the Grimes/Midland City area of Dale County in 1963.
Mrs. Carnley was an active member of the Grimes United Methodist Church.
She was retired from Golden Peanut Company in the Headland office.

Bio: Published in Austin American-Statesman on November 16, 2005Melva Lora Carpenter A long time resident of Austin, Melva Lora Carpenter of Madison Manor Nursing Home (in North Carolina) went home to be with the Lord on November 14, 2005, after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was 86 years old. Melva was born in Miami, Arizona to William Barry Ramsel and Fanny Elizabeth Cleveland. Melva moved to Northwest Texas in the 1930s after her mother tragically died young. She came to Austin in the 1950s where she lived out most of her life. She was moved to North Carolina in 2000 for nursing care. She was preceded in death by her former husbands, George Huff and Ira Carpenter, and her brothers Dr. Cecil Ramsel of Lodi, California and Lt-Col (Ret) Curtis Ramsel of Duncan, Oklahoma. She is survived by her daughters Dr. Rebecca Holman of New York City and Dr. Kay Carpenter of Western North Carolina. She is also survived by her brother W.B. (Dub) Ramsel of Georgetown, Texas and his wonderful extended family, and her grandson Paul Holman of Austin, nieces Sherry Wilkison of Austin, Virginia Kotimsky of New York City, and nephew Bill Ramsel of Georgetown. Melva was a strong woman with an unusual perspective on life. Sometimes cantankerous, she could also be charming and wickedly funny. Hers was the heart of a gentle soul and a teasing wit. She loved being a mother and was a formidable advocate for children and her loved ones. But her true calling was art. Her oil paintings of the Texas Hill Country bluebonnets will always remain as her signature and reflect the love of the Lone Star State. She also enjoyed gardening and cultivating the cacti that reminded her of Arizona. Memorials in her name should be dedicated to the art community, such as the Elizibet Ney Museum. Her family will receive friends at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2005, at the Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville with funeral services following at 3:30 p.m. Burial will follow at Cook- Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.

Chester Carpenter passed away at the young age of 93 on November 23, 2012, after a lengthy hospitalization due to a tractor accident.
He was born on January 29, 1919, to Bosse and Minnie Carpenter, and he was one of ten children. Chester served our country in the South Pacific during World War II, and he served our Lord for many years as a Baptist Minister until retirement.
His favorite pastime was fishing, as he was an avid fisherman. He performed many marriages, at last count totaling over one hundred of them, during his days as a pastor.
Chester is preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings, his wife, Wanda Murline Carpenter to whom he was married for over 60 years and his son, Earnest Carpenter.
He is survived by his daughter, Virginia (Ginger) Lymbery and husband, Don; one daughter-in-law, Lynell Carpenter, (the surviving spouse of Earnest H. Carpenter); four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandson.

My grandfather St. Elmo Milton Carpenter hated his name and chose to be known as Dick. Curiously, he always had SEC as his initiials. Technically SEMC is more accurate but that was never used by him and it is something that I never think to use.Dick's best friend was Johnny Keenan, and from those two names my father John Richard Carpenter Sr got his name. Dad has always been called John.
I have always been known as Rick to family and friends but I sign my name as John on official docs/bills/etc and I use the initials JRC.
I call John "my gubmint name", so when I get something addressing me or calling me John I know they don't know me... or I owe them money.
