Guy van Smith

Guy Van Smith was born at Lawton, Oklahoma on October 24, 1910 to John B.
and Mary A. (Cochran) Smith. He married Cleta Carpenter on December 24,
1938. A daughter, Clevanel was born on October 3, 1939, and died at
birth. A son Guy Loyal SAmith and a daughter Vanetta Smith Beach were
born latter. His Grandchildren are Dustin Smith, Lampasas, TX;
Jennifer Smith Neiman, Kempner, TX; Nancy each, Stamford, TX; Jeri
Ann Beach, Portales, NM. A Great grandson, Colby Lee Neiman also
of Kempner, TX. Guy had three brothers and a sister who preceded him
in death, John L. Smith, Claude Smith, Alex Smith and Annie Mae. One
living sister; Mrs Beatrice Smith Horner, Artesia, NM, 91 years
of ages survives. Guy was a member of the United States Army from May 31,
1943 to December 1, 1945. On April 16, 1944, Guy was baptised on a troop
transport on his way to the South Pacific. Guy was awarded the
Asiatic-Pacific Medal with three Bronze Stars, the Philippine Liberation
Medal with one Bronze Star, the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Ribbon
and three Overseas Service Bars. Guy moved to the Kempner-Oakalla area in
1966. He was a retired farmer-rancher. Guy was a member of the Oakalla
United Methodist Church until 1984 when he became a member of Kempner
United Methodist Church, Kempner, TX. Guy had severe hearing loss due
to injury during the war and more recently had suffered poor health. He
enjoyed company and especially enjoyed the prayer time when we would be
in his home. Recently he expressed a desire to go meet his father and
brothers. His last illness was at Rolloins-Brook hospital and finally his
last days were spent at Leisure Lodge where he went to meet his father
and brothers last monday morning at 6:30 A.M.

Killeen Daily Hearld: 18 NOV 1998: Nolan Elsworth Carpenter: Services for
Nolan Elsworth Carpenter, 75, of Kempner will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at
Sheppard Memorial /Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with the rev. Dale
Pruitt officiating. Burial will follow at Toby Cemetery in Burnet .
Carpenter died Monday at his residence.

Albert Virgil "Lucky" Dunlap

Albert Dunlap, Lampasas - Services for Albert Virgil "Lucky" Dunlap, 64,
of Lampasas were scheduled for 2 P.M. today at Briggs -Gamel Funeral Home
with the Rev. Reuben Clemmetsen officating. Burial with military honors
was to follow in Gillum Cemetery near Oakalla. Dunlap died Monday in a
Lampasas Hospital following a long illness. Born in MO, he had
lived in Lampasas  for 14 years. He was a Veteran of World War II
and a former quartermaster of American Legion (miss print it was the VFW)
Post No. 8539 in 1972-73. He was a retired construction worker. Dunlap is
survived by his wife, ElJuanda Dunlap of Lampasas; four sons, Joe Dunlap
of Metamora, Mich., James Dunlap of Odessa, Jerry Dunlap of Comanche and
Steven Dunlap of San Angelo; a daughter, Dorice Doss of Lampasas; two
sisters, Bessie Honeycutt of Luling, La., and Pansy Bailey of Southfield,
Mich.; and 17 grandchildren.:: From News-paper clipping; Dunlap and
Carpenter PFC Albert V. Dunlap, son of Mrs. Jennie Dunlap of Detroit,
Michigan, and ElJuanda Carpenter of Oakalla, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Hadie Carpenter of Oakalla, were married at 10 A.M. February 14 by Rev.
R. H. Mathison. PFC. Albert (Lucky) Dunlap entered the Army January,
1940. He spent three years in the South Pacific, but now is stationed at
Camp Hood, TX. The couple were accompanied by Mrs. Russell Smale and
Mrs. Guy Smith. They left for a short honeymoon, going to Dallas and from
there to Detroit, Mich. We all wish them a long and happy married
life. -Reported.
