Thru T. Mason from Sherlynn K. Jones

Patriotic proprietor of the "Grape Hotel" and th "Black Bear" of Lancaster city, which became historic as the meeting-places of the Committee of Observation and of the Supreme Executive Committee, and in the later hotel General Washington was given a dinner by the citizens in 1777. Reigart was ever an active partisan of the Independence of the Colonies, and became Lieutenant Colonel of the 1st Battalion of the Lancaster County Militia, and later, was a member of the Legislature.

From "The Biographical History of Lancaster County"

Adam Reigart, was an innkeeper during the American Revolution, keeping his house on the west side of North Queen street, near Centre Square. His hotel was the Whig headquarters during the Revolution, and here the Supreme Exective Council held its sessions when in Lancaster. He was Lieutenant-colonel in a regiment under the command of Colonel George Ross, and marched with his regiment to Amboy, in New Jersey, and served with it until the regiment was discharged. He was in various encounters which his regiment had with the British during his service as one of its commanding officers. He was elected a member of the Legislature for the year 1780.
(It was in the house of Adam Reigart that the lots were drawn in order to determine which one of the British officers, held as prisoners of war at Lancaster during the Revolution, the execution of the "lex talionis" should take place in retaliation for the murder of Captain Hudy, who had been executed at New York in violation of military law. The drawing of the lots was conducted by Colonel George Gibson and the lot fell upon Captain Sir Charles Asgill. As soon as Gibson perceived upon whom the lot had fallen, he remarked to Captain Stake (pointing to Asgill), "there is your prisoner". Asgill was immediately ordered under the command of Captain Stake, who, upon the solicitation and pledge of honor of Major Gordon, another British officer, surrendered Asgill to his keeping for a few days. When Major Gordon was conducting Asgill away from the place where the lots had been drawn, the latter partially fainted and fell prostrate. Major Gordon upbraidingly remarked to him: "For God's sake don't disgrace your colors." Through the interposition of Lady Asgill, the mother of Sir Charles, the French Minister used his influence with Washington and obtained his release, and thus rescued him from being executed, as otherwise he would have been, in obdience to the "lex talionis.")

Member of Captain Rowland's company of the 10th Battalion of the Lancaster Militia in 1775. Served in the "Flying Camp". a body of irregular troops called out after the Battle of Long Island ; later Captain of the 7th company of the same. A member of the Assembly (PA) from 1779-1786 and subsequently a Judge of the Court of Common Pleas until 1798. He then emigrated to Ohio where he also became a Judge and wealthy landowner.

In the spring of 1798, Emanuel, Samuel and William (sons of John ) and his new wife Nancy (Emanuel's daughter) headed to Ohio after Emanuel had been infected with the idea by talks with Colonel Ebenezer Zane. They settled and bought 2 square miles of land(four sections)  next to(south of) Zane's section at the crossing of the Ohio and Hocking Rivers as they were first on the ground. Emanuel made a trip to Chillicothe where the land office was located and filed the necessary papers to secure the claim. Emanuel selected a spot on the branch which they named "carpenter's Run" about one mile southwest of the crossing of the Hocking River.

A General Assembly, elected by the people, met in Cincinnati in 1799-1800 and on January 9, 1800, Fairfield County was organized. At that session Emanuel was appointed the Presiding Judge of the Court of Common Pleas and Samuel was commissioned a Justice of the Peace.

October 12, 1802: two members of the Constitutional Convention were chosen by popular election to frame a Constitution for the State of Ohio. This was the first election held in Fairfield County. The two chosen were Emanuel Carpenter and Henry Abrams with 228 and 181 votes respectively.

I had assumed "Christn" & "Christian" Tax 1773 entries were the same person. Then I found a third one "Chrn". The image shows THREE (3) Christians.  This image (page 166 reads; “Christ n Sen.” then “Jn. (fat)” then “Chr n. (fat son).  I assume the word “fat” in this case is for father?
Then to make matters worse, I found on the previous census page (166) yet another Christian Carpenter!

And I have not found a Ancestry entry for that Christian Carpenter. All the other reference to page 167 - as designated on the image itself.
