Census records show Gabriel living in Huntington Co. PA in 1830 ; Fermanaugh Township, Juanita Co. as a farmer in 1840; Oliver T ownship, Mifflin Co. in 1850 and 1860. He is also listed with hi s son Jacob in Harrisburg in 1860. He was in Greenwood Township , Perry Co. in 1870 and 1880. Mary inherited from her father a h ouse in Liberty Hall (now Reward) Perry Co. Pa and it is believe d that this is where they were living when Gabriel died Dec. 19 , 1885. He is buried in the United Methodist Cemetery in Rewar d and the gravestone reads: Our Father, Gabriel Carpenter Died D ecember 19, 1885, Age 86 years, 7 months, 18 days.
Gabriel served a short time in the civil was. He was mustered i n January 8, 1862 and mustered out April 30, 1862. He was 62 whe n he enlisted in Captain Wm. Palmer's Silver Grey PA Volunteers . In April 1879 he filed for a pension claiming he had contracte d sore eyes while in the service causing blindness in one eye. A fter Gabriel's death, Mary went to live in Lewiston PA. She die d at the residence of her son Gabriel August 4, 1892 and is buri ed in son Byron's lot in the First Methodist Church Cemetery i n Lewistown.[ZIMMERMANCARPENTER.ged]Census records show Gabriel living in Huntington Co.
