George was a World War I veteran, PVT. Co. M, 112th Infantry, 28 th Division. He participated in several battles including the Mu ese Argonne campaign.

After the war, he was employed by O.O. Orner of Lewistown as a b ill poster (outdoor signs) until 1940 then for American Viscos e as groundskeeper and chauffeur.
He died at Geisinger Memorial hospital in Danville from lung can cer and is buried in St. Mark's Episcopal Cemetery, Lewistown.[ZIMMERMANCARPENTER.ged]

Bio: Clinton Feathers Carpenter, 80, of Rt. 4, died early Thursday at the Veterans Administration Center in Martinsburg, W.Va. after a brief illness.  He was born in Hagerstown, the son of Samuel W. and Amanda Carpenter.He had been employed by the Western Maryland Railway until his retirement in 1956.  He was a veteran of World War I.  He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Martha A. McCormick of Hagerstown; four sons, Earl C. Carpenter, Samuel H. Carpenter, and George W. Carpenter, all of Hagerstown, and Melvin E. Carpenter of Salt Lake City, Utah; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Williams and Mrs. Nora F. Metz, both of Hagerstown; two brothers, Ira F. Carpenter and Aden Carpenter, both of Hagerstown; and 19 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren.Services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel with the Rev. G. Bio: Mrs. Alice Martha Carpenter, wife of Clinton F. Carpenter of Route 4, died at the Washington County Hospital Sunday evening at 10:55 following a stroke suffered Dec. 24, aged 58.She was a member of the Broadfording Church of the Brethren, and a resident of the Cearfoss area for 23 years. Surviving are her husband; children, Mrs. Harry Sloan, Hagerstown, Rt. 4; Samuel D, Carpenter, Clear Spring, Rt. 1; Melvin E. Carpenter, with the Armed Forces in Germany; George W. Carpenter, Hagerstown; sisters, Mrs. Grace Dumer and Miss Lola E. McCurdy, both of Hagerstown; brothers, Benjamin F. Metz and Walter G. Metz, both of Hagerstown, and 15 grandchildren. The body was removed to the Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, where friends may call. Services will be held at the chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday in charge of the service, Rev. J. Stanley Earhart, assisted by the Rev. David R. Petre. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the chapel from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

She was employed by E.J. Fennel Corporation, retiring in 1978. She was a member of Broadfording Bible Brethren Church. She is survived by daughters, Mary R. Carter and Margaret M. Myers both of Anaheim, Calif., Ethel V. Clevenger of Washington, N.J., Anna L. Carter, Betty L. Middlekauff, and Esther E. Young, all of Hagerstown, Mabel G. Clark and Z. Marie Lynch, both of Arthamis, Pa., and Shirley O. Davis of Chambersburg, Pa.; son, Roy F. Saunders of Bunker Hill, W. Va.; step-daughters, Hazel Brewer of Halfway and Dorothy McKee of Williamsport; step-sons, Harold Carpenter of Winchester, Va., and Donald Carpenter of Broadfording; sisters, Ella Tosten and Hazel Bingaman, both of Greencastle, Anna Roland of Gettysburg, Pa., Rhoda Grndinsky of Baltimore and Irene Clevenger of Mercersburg, Pa.; a brother Earl Carbaugh of Chambersburg; 51 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 10 step-grandchildren, and 13 step-great-grandchildren. Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Broadfording Bible Brethren Church. The Rev. William H. Freed Jr. will officiate; burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the time of the service. The family requests the omission of flowers and memorial donations may be made to the Washington County Heart Assn. Bio: Christopher C. Carpenter Christopher C. Carpenter, 83, passed away on Thursday afternoon, January 7, 2015  at the Shippensburg Health Care Center, where he resided since May, 2014.  He was a former resident of Greencastle. Chris was born May 24, 1932 in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Preston and Camilla (Harper) Carpenter. He attended school in Hagerstown.   Chris worked in maintenance at Grove Manufacturing for 29 years until he retired. Always passionate about helping the local fire company, Chris spent approximately 20 years cleaning the restrooms and assisting at the annual carnival for the Rescue Hose Company of Greencastle. He was working towards his lifetime membership as an auxiliary member and was known by all as a devoted volunteer who proudly did his best to serve the Rescue Hose Company. He is survived by his sister, Nancy Carpenter of Hagerstown and his other "family" of  devoted friends: Karen and Darrel Showalter, Yvonne Young, Dorothy "Dottie" Cunningham, Rhoda Stickel, Audrey Tozer, Kim Bickers, Deborah and Garnet Negley, Lois Fetterhoff,  Pastor Paul and Denise Hutchison,  Carl’s Drug Store staff , many friends from the Community Grace Church in Greencastle, all of the wonderful staff at Shippensburg Health Care Center, and so many others who supported and assisted Chris throughout his life. Chris was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved brother William. Funeral services will held on Wednesday, January 13 at 2:00 PM from the Harold M. Zimmerman And Son Funeral Home of Greencastle with Pastor Paul Hutchison officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour before the service on Wednesday.  Burial will be in the Browns Mill Cemetery Kauffman.
