Her journey of 91 years began in Danbury, CT, on 31 Jan 1924, as the second child of Wallace and Frances (nee BICKERS) AUSTIN. Childhood was spent in New England before the family moved to Frederick, MD when she was 13. Florestine (Flo) Frances would graduate from Frederick High School, in 1942.
Marriage followed in November, 1944, to the late Bernard Farring CARPENTER, also of Frederick. They would set up home in Baltimore, MD. Florestine Frances would give life to seven children, six of whom survived into adulthood. One son, Robert Allen, preceded her in death.
In 1959, the family moved to Chicago Heights, IL where she would spend the rest of her life. Retiring from the City of Chicago Heights Police Department at the age of 72, she would spend life quietly enjoying reading, her companion cats, and visits from friends and family.
Her long journey ended peacefully on February 27, 2015, in Chicago Heights, IL.
Florestine Frances is survived by six children: Bernard Lee of Columbia, SC; Sandra Jean GREENWOOD and Ginger Austin CARPENTER, both of Walnut Creek, CA; Melinda WORTHINGTON of Park Forest, IL; Michael David (Kris) of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; and Elizabeth Anne (David) WILSON of West Chester, OH.
One sister survives: Marjorie Ann FORD of Frederick, MD
She is also survived by 6 grandchildren: Geoffrey and Sean GREENWOOD of California, Jennifer and Michael (Becky) WORTHINGTON of Illinois, Alexandra and Hannah WILSON of Ohio; and six great-grandchildren : Celina, Bianca, and Marco DELGADO of Illinois, and Autumn, Madelyn, and Aubrey WORTHINGTON of Illinois. In her final days, the Illinois and Ohio members of the clan rallied to provide comfort and care.
The family wishes to express its appreciation to Beverly Pelligrini, of Chicago Heights, IL, and her family, for the years of kindness and assistance given to our mother. We would also like to thank our mother's caregiver, Michelle Crossley for the patience and tender skill she provided.
Internment will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick, MD.

Mr. Ralph Eugene Carpenter, 75, of Turkey, N.C., died Thursday, March 25, at his home. He was the husband of Louise Carpenter of Brunswick. He was born in Frederick. He retired from the State Highway Patrol.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, Scott Carpenter of Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Kelly Carpenter of Galax, Va.; and three brothers, Bernard Carpenter, of Phoenix, Ariz., Robert Carpenter of Middletown and Richard Carpenter of Hagerstown.
Arrangements were handled by Cape Fear Crematory, Fayetteville, N.C.

Gail A. Carpenter, 79, of Chillicothe, died 5:57 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Adena Regional Medical Center unexpectedly.He was born October 12, 1938 in Chillicothe to the late Harry and Vernie Robinson Carpenter. On April 27, 1963, he married the former Betty Jane Steinbrook who preceded him in death July 30, 1991. On December 22, 1997, he married the former Janice Kidnocker Sigler who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Shekou Shenzhen, China; three stepdaughters; nine grandchildren; a sister, of Chillicothe; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law, of Chillicothe; a special friend and “little brother”, Travis of Chillicothe; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Harold and Paul Carpenter; sister, Barb Kuhner and a brother-in-law, Harvey Kuhner.
Gail was a United States Air Force Veteran. He retired from DuPont on January 31, 1997 following 33 years of service. Gail was a member of Chillicothe Baptist Church and an active volunteer with Big Brothers and Big Sisters and, for the past 10 years, was an active volunteer for Nascar’s Victory Junction Camp for handicapped children. He also enjoyed mentoring kids at local area schools. Gail was an avid Ohio State Buckeye Fan.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday May 22, 2018 at the Chillicothe Baptist Church with Dr. Tim Cline officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at the WARE FUNERAL HOME from 6-8 p.m. on Monday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Big Brothers/Big Sisters 173 W. Second Street Chillicothe, Ohio 45601 or to Elizabeth’s Hope 311 W. Water Street Chillicothe, Ohio 45601.

Louis "Tex" Gerlach, of Circleville, born July 11, 1937, passed away March 9, 2014, at the age of 76. He is the son of Ralph and Ada Gerlach.
He is preceded in death by his parents, loving wife Maxine and grandson Jacob Curtiss. He is survived by his brother Carl Gerlach of Amarillo, TX; children, Cathy (Paul) Curtiss, Brian Gerlach, Julie (Brian) Leonard; 4 grandchildren, Katie, Kyle, Kristi, and Kendra Hupp.
He served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church, and retired from Dupont and enjoyed watching good old western's listening to the Gaither's and loved his chocolate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to: TSA Tourette Syndrome Association at 42-40 Bell Blvd, Bayside, NY 11361.
Visitation will be 4 pm to 7 pm on Wednesday at the Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger funeral home. Funeral service will be held at 11:30 am on Thursday at the Calvary U.M.C. 427 S. Washington St, Circleville.
Private graveside service will be held at a later date at Forest Cemetery. Arrangements were made with Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville. Please visit www.schoedinger.com
