Samuel Carpenter    Compact Disc #55     Pin #596314
While there was a Samuel Carpenter in the family of James (the father), his birth year is far from determined. I have given a children birth range from the mid 1780s to the mid 1790s based on a birth of James circa 1760 with a guesstimate of plus of minus about 7 years. Samuel Carpenter-124362 in the CE being listed last in the record is given about 1793. If reversed then born about 1784.
Drop James birth to about 1750 then the children range is between about 1775 to 1785 plus or minus a bit.
Is there a possible Samuel Carpenter in the 1850 US Census who could be this Samuel? Based on birth year range of 1775 to 1785. Yes there is one possible.

BIRTH:
1800 - mix - 1 b. bef 1755, 1 b. 1755/1774, 1 b. 1774/1784, 1 born 1784/1790, 3 b. 1790/1800
------------ This is not this Samuel as head of house.
1810 b. abt 1785/1794
1820 b. abt 1776/1794
1830 b. abt 1771/1780      <---- outrider
1840 b. abt 1791/1800
1850 b. abt 1790 PA - wife Rachel
1860 b. abt 1790 PA - wife Rachel
1870 b. abt 1785 PA - wife Rachel <---- outrider
The seeming consensus, so to speak, is about 1790ish for birth.

CENSUS: 1800 US Census  -- father listing?  Likely some one else!

Reportedly buried next to his wife. But a search in 2023 found no grave marker.Since then there is a picture found that was taken in 2008 showing the marker was laying on the ground.
It is now assumed the fallen marker is now covered over. I am trying to get permission to use this 2008 image.
James Carpenter was the son of James Carpenter (b. abt 1750/1770 England - d. 1791 in Anthony, Lycoming, Pennsylvania) and Mary McNeil (b. abt 1750/1760 England - d. abt 1815 Lycoming County, PA).

James married Sarah Welsh and they had children: Andrew, William, James, Henry & Sarah Jane. He reportedly also married a Catherine Emery.

Birth and marriage years are estimates.
