LETTER: About 6 Feb 2002
Dear Mr. Carpenter,
My niece gave me your address as she has sent for your disc's on the Carpenter Family.
My great grandmother was Elizabeth Carpenter, she married Samuel Bishop and their son Cuthber(t) who married Julia Lamont were my grandparents.
They were of (------) my mother's parents.
I have been doing genealogy for quite a few years now.
My mother married Hartley Hathorne so I have researched item house books on the Bishop Family from my relatives in Nova Scotia.
I just wanted to write to you to see if I have another relative I didn't know about.
I do not know how to operate a computer but when my niece receives the discs, she and I will look at them on her computer.
Hope to hear from you soon.

John
I am now home and have access to my family records.      Your # 15 Henry J Carpenter has a question regarding birth date and whether he was legitimate or not.    According to his Bible records and his parentgs Bible record, he was born in 1789....   In 1751 Britian and the colonies adopted the Gregorian calendar whcih changed the first of the year from March 1st back to January 1st.     For some time, some people continued to use the date 15 Jan 1788/1789 which indicates that in the new calendar it was Jan 1789 but by the old calendar it was Jan 1788 because the new year began on March 1st.

You have listed 5 children for Henry J. Carpenter (# 15).   I have his Bible records and neither it nor do any family stories indicate other than the 3 sons: born in 1841, 1843 and 1845...... Joseph Hope, Benjamin, and Daniel.

In my attached file you will note the children, grandchildren, etc.... generations from Benjamin and Daniel families.    As you may note the name of Henry, Hope, John, Benjamin, DeWitt, and Cora have been used in many of the different lines.

On another note, just what do you do to participate in the y-DNA project?

Thanks for that update.  New below are the final resting places of Henry and
Benjamin, sons of Hope Carpenter, b. 1757 and Benjamin's three wives and two
of his children (there are most likely more).  I found these the hard way,
by stomping the cemetery and comparing the birth dates.

Dear Brother Carpenter --
Thank you for your reply. I am LDS too and live in Athens, GA, Sugar Hill
Stake. I am new to GEDCOM's etc.. Will your CD be available for purchase and
when? I didn't want to duplicate Temple work but definitely would like to do
the work for at least my direct line. My line (as far as I know right now) is:

Harland P. Howard Sr. md. Grace Dean Dillon

I will visit your website again. Thanks so much for the reply. It's so nice
to have some LDS family members, even if it is very distant. We are first
generation LDS. (I actually joined before my parents). We joined the Church
while living in NJ, actually very near where the Carpenter (Hope's family)
lived in NJ (Hunterdon). Too bad we didn't know all this back then! Anyway,
thanks again.  Jean Reeves.
