I've been lurking here for a while and haven't posted on "my"
Carpenter yet. Mine is Mary Carpenter born June 3, 1806 in Norwich,
New London, CT. She married Nathaniel B. Adams of Lisbon, New London,
CT on September 13, 1831. They moved to Green Springs, Seneca Co., OH
and then Defiance, Defiance Co., OH. She outlived her daughter (Mary
Elizabeth Adams) and her husband, dying in Holgate, Henry Co., OH on
October 10, 1891.
The IGI has Alfred Carpenter b. abt. 1766 (of Ashford, Windham, Ct)
and Elizabeth Jay as her parents. The Ancestral File has Alfred
Carpenter traced back to William of Rehoboth:
William Carpenter
Joseph Carpenter b. 1628
Benjamin Carpenter b. 1658
Benjamin Carpenter b. 1680
Uriah Carpenter b. 1711
Hezikiah Carpenter b. 1736
Alfred Carpenter b. 1766
Mary Carpenter b. 1806
I don't completely trust the Ancestral File, I've seen glaring errors
there so I thought that I'd ask how much anyone here can verify of
this....I believe I've seen from William to the second Benjamin on a
website, but Carpenters get spread pretty thin after that...they all
had so many children. I am working from the bottom up, myself, and
have sent to Norwich for a birth record, but any clues or tips would
be welcome. I know there's some books, but I haven't got them yet.
I'm just starting on this side of the family.
Thanks,

6028. Frederick William Carpenter

Number 3475 in the Carpenter Memorial.  Page 396.
Family on page 582 to 584. (# 963).
DEATH: The above record has 1821 and below has 1837.
He once resided in Warren, MA then later in Union, CT.
Military: He served in the war of 1812 as captain.  There is no doubt but
that Frederick was the youngest son of his father Uriah's first wife; and
probably the only son he had by her.  Caroline Putnam, a grand-daughter of
Frederick, states that she gathered the impression somehow that he had no
full brother or sister and that he was the youngest and was much indulged by
the family.   When he first became acquainted with his wife he was captain
of a military company and was one of the most gallant, dashing young men of
the day.   He frequently rode the gentle, and beautiful Arabian horse owned
by General Eaton, which he took home with him from the war.  General Eaton
was a cousin to Frederick and they were very intimate and close friends.
Frederick was delighted in riding the horse.  She (Caroline) states that she
had often heard her mother and grandmother speak of this beautiful horse and
that General Eaton would ride him up the stairs of the house, which would
frighten them very much.
Extracts from a letter from Lucius M. Boltwood of New Haven, Conn., dated
Oct. 21, 1879;
A correspondent at the west writes me that her great grandfather, Noah or
Uriah Carpenter born about 1730 married Nancy Loomis, and resided in
Stafford, Conn. All she tells me of their family is, that they had a son
Frederick, born Jan. 6, 1766, who married about 1789, Eunice Burrows and
resided at Western, now Warren, Mass. and died about 1821.   Frederick
enlisted into the service of the Revolutionary war as we find in Colonel
Canlield's regiment at West Point, Sept. 1781.  His residence then was
stated to be Union, Conn.

In1835, he was
first elected justice of the peace and, although resigning twice, has since served nearly forty years.  He served four years as supervisor of Hinsdale and was the firstsupervisor of Ischua (then Rice), holding the office in all
nineteen years.  When young he madetwo trips on the Erie canal between Buffalo and Albany and is one of the few men living who saw the three THAYERs hung in Buffalo. Frederick L. CARPENTER resides on the homestead in
