6234. Stephen Carpenter

RESIDENCE: Onondaga county, NY, but about 1825 removed to Conewango,
Cattaraugus County, NY.  There by Census of 1830.  In the State Census of
1835 in the part step off as Leon probably about 1832.   He was removed to
Ripley, Huron county, OH about 1837 and bought 60 acres (Lot 4, section 1)
on 19 April 1638.  Deeds 14:553.  He sold the last of these lands to son-in-law
Rodman Ellis on 1 April 1865.  Deeds 17:422.  And removed to Berrien county,
MI probably with his son Benjamin.  When he died, the widow Hannah, resided
in Greenwich, Huron, OH in 1878.

MILITARY: Stephen was drafted for service in the War of 1812.  At Onondaga
Hollow, Onondaga, NY and served with his brothers Elias and John in a company
of New York Militia.  Company commanded by Capt. Forbes in the Regiment of Col.
Thaddeus Wood.  SGt. Stephen entered service 1 Oct 1814 and discharged 10 Nov.
1814 at Smith's Mills, NY.  For this service he received a warrent for 40 acres
of bounty land, claim number 31, 793.  Widow Hannah Carpenter applied for a
pension in 1878 and received $12.00 per month until her death in 1887.

6235. Elias Carpenter

RESIDENCE: Resided first Onondaga county, NY until 1825 when he removed to
Conewango township, Cattaraugus, NY where he settled on lot 64.  He removed to
Minisotta circa 1867 at the time of removal of his brother John.
In the War of 1812, he served as a substitute for his father John Carpenter.
He entered the service 18 Oct. 1814 in Captain Forbes company, Col. Thaddeus
Wood's Regiment of New York Milita.  He was discharged 22 Nov. 1814.
According to claim for bounty land, filed 23 Sept. 1852, granted warrant number
89610 for 40 acres and warrant number 5189 for 120 acres in 1855.

6239. Polly Carpenter

RESIDENCE: Resided Spafford, Onondaga, NY until 1830, when they removed to
Fairfield township, Huron, OH and bought 100 acres on 20 Nov. 1834.
Deed # 9:516.  Her husband, Sylvester Griswold was one of the incorporators of
the Fairfield and Bronson Union company which established a cemetery on Town
Line Road (now known as Hinkley Cem., Fairfield Twp.) between the two
townships.  In late in life they removed to Wisconsin.

12300. Cyrus Griswold

At age 12 Cyrus went to live with his uncle Reuben Carpenter until age 19, and
from him learned the trade of shoemaker.  Removed to Rock county, WI and
arriving 9 June 1849, and set up his trade.  Purchased farm in section 7,
Clinton township, Rock county, WI in 1865.  He was a Supervisor there and a
Mason.

He was a shoemaker and so called in 1870 census. Later in life he resided
with son-in-law Vincent Snyder in Fairfield Twp. on New State Rd. Lot 4.
Section 3 (Huron County Atlas 1891).

Clark Horner? family on the 1850, Van Buren Twp., Wayne CO MI. Census, as a
farmer,
Next found in 1860 Spring Arbor Twp. Jackson County, MI. where my great
Grandfather Hiram C. Carpenter was born in  1856,.
  1870 found them in Newton Twp. Buchanan CO. IA. 1880 until death found
them in to New Boston Twp. Mercer CO. IL.
Hiram C. Carpenter married Cora A. Tarr in 1884, I found Hiram C. in Newton
Twp. Harvey CO. Kansas in 1885 & 1895, 1900-1945 Found Hiram C. in
Princeton, Ohio Twp. Franklin CO. Kansas,. Which is about 20 miles east of
Baldwin, Douglas CO. KS.?
Are there any Carpenters living in Douglas County Now?
