RESIDENCE: Onondaga county, NY, but about 1825 removed to Conewango,
Cattaraugus County, NY. There by Census of 1830. In the State Census of
1835 in the part step off as Leon probably about 1832. He was removed to
Ripley, Huron county, OH about 1837 and bought 60 acres (Lot 4, section 1)
on 19 April 1638. Deeds 14:553. He sold the last of these lands to son-in-law
Rodman Ellis on 1 April 1865. Deeds 17:422. And removed to Berrien county,
MI probably with his son Benjamin. When he died, the widow Hannah, resided
in Greenwich, Huron, OH in 1878.MILITARY: Stephen was drafted for service in the War of 1812. At Onondaga
Hollow, Onondaga, NY and served with his brothers Elias and John in a company
of New York Militia. Company commanded by Capt. Forbes in the Regiment of Col.
Thaddeus Wood. SGt. Stephen entered service 1 Oct 1814 and discharged 10 Nov.
1814 at Smith's Mills, NY. For this service he received a warrent for 40 acres
of bounty land, claim number 31, 793. Widow Hannah Carpenter applied for a
pension in 1878 and received $12.00 per month until her death in 1887.

At age 12 Cyrus went to live with his uncle Reuben Carpenter until age 19, and
from him learned the trade of shoemaker. Removed to Rock county, WI and
arriving 9 June 1849, and set up his trade. Purchased farm in section 7,
Clinton township, Rock county, WI in 1865. He was a Supervisor there and a
Mason.
