Later he became a railroad contractor and built many well-known
railroads and other structures, among, them the Boston &
Providence, the Boston  Fitchburg, the Troy & Boston, the
Sara-toga &Sacketts Harbor, Alton & Savannah, also the draw
across the Merrimac at Lawrence. He resided in many places on
account of the nature of his business, but the principal places
were Dedham, Newburyport, Lawrence and Saratoga Springs, N.Y.,
