Carpenter, Mrs. George died at Hopewell, NY 12 Nov 1828.CENSUS: In 1850 US Census with father and his own family.
The record submitted indicates he died in the Civil War (1861/1865). He would
have been about age 60/65. Something doesn't feel right ... Died during Civil
War might be better. Not many 60/65 year old soldiers. War is a young mans
game. However, he may be a K.I.A.
FOUND!!! Rev. John Carpenter was a Chaplin who died in the service of his country. Died in a hospital in Washington D.C.

(VII) William C., son of ____ ______Carpenter, was born in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1790, died in South Rutland, New York, 1851. In early life he followed the sea and became master of a vessel. During the war of 1812 Captain Carpenter took out letters of "marque and reprisal" and sailed the seas as a privateer, looking for British vessels for prizes. He was captured by an English man-of-war, his vessel lost, and he sent to England a prisoner, where he was kept in confinement until peace was declared between the United States and Great Britain. On his return to the U.S., he abandoned seafaring life, and moved to South Rutland, N.Y., where he engaged in farming until his death in 1851, at the age of sixty-one years. He married Hannah Carpenter.

MARRIAGE CONFLICT:
In the Carpenter Memorial of 1898, Familynumber 639 on page 443 of Daniel Carpenter and Mary Champlin has a son named William who married a Hannah Carpenter. Hannah Carpenter-45419 born 14 Nov 1789 in South Kingston is NOT THE RIGHT Hannah Carpenter. Thus she is removed from William C. Carpenter-45418 and replaced. The 3. William: Married Hannah Carpenter per CM (See page 443). Found to remain in Richmond, RI through 1870 Census.
The Hannah in the 1850 census is age 33 or born abt 1816 (NOT 1789!) and the William C. Carpenter is born abt 1805.

3. William: Married Hannah Carpenter per CM. Found to remain in Richmond, RI through 1870 Census.PARENTS: Conflict - Daniel & Mary Champlin Carpenter per the CM and a Benjamin per another record.
The issue is 2 William Carpenters. 1) born abt 1805 and the other 2) born abt 1790 son of Benjamin.
This is resolved with the 1850 US Census. The Hannah in that census is age 33 or born abt 1816 and the William C. Carpenter is born abt 1805. So the William (b. abt 1790), of Benjamin, is incorrect.CENSUS: 1850 US Census - See image: RIN 45418 William Carpenter 1850.jpg
