9123. Martin Luther Carpenter

BIBLE: In Family Bible his birth year was changed from 1839 to 1830 in pencil.  See father's notes.

E-MAIL: Re: Martin Luther Carpenter 99-04-12 From: mardon2@ix.netcom.com
Thank you for the reply.  Would you have in your files a Martin Luther
Carpenter b.1830 in Orange Co., NY?  I believe his parents were William
Carpenter and Martha Gould.  I am searching for his descendents, one of
whom may have been a Martin (Winfield) Carpenter.
Would you know if above Martin Luther Carpenter had a second marriage
to a Catherine Young?  Said Catherine had a son Martin(Winfield) whom
Martin Luther would have raised through the second marriage.  Martin
(Winfield) is my  grandfather.  To simplify as I was told by family:
Catherine YOUNG  m. John WINFIELD in Hancock, NY They had a son,
Martin WINFIELD(my grandfather).  When John WINFIELD died, Catherine
remarried to a Martin Luther CARPENTER.  My grandfather kept his birth name
of WINFIELD.  Later on, his mother Catherine died, and Martin Luther
Carpenter remarried.
I am having the most difficult time tracing Martin WINFIELD, having
only to rely on what an older member of the family (who has since passed
away)has told me about his ancestry.  I can find nothing in records of his
past under the WINFIELD name other than his marriage and his children.
I would appreciate anything you may have to offer on this family line
and want to thank you in advance.
Best wishes, Mary.

I am looking for the ancestors of Lebbeus S. Carpenter, born 1822 in either NY or New England. He is my Great Great Grandfather. Died 4/14/1889 in the Town of Russia, Herkimer County, New York. He married Elizabeth E. King (1827 - 1855). Their children were William (1848-1914), Amy E. (1850-1920) and my Great Grandfather, Pelton (1853-1927). After Elizabeth died, he married Hannah H(?). Their children were Charles (1860-1920) and Ida who died young. All children were born in Russia Township, NY.
