Edwin L. Carpenter was nicknamed "suger". He and his siblings were all
nicknamed by William Bancroft Carpenter, the brother of renowned writer and Columbia University
professor, George Rice Carpenter.
Edwin L. Carpenter was a grocery retailer and worked for both Brockleman

19237. Beatrice Lenore Carpenter

Married 4 times.
Beatrice Lenore Carpenter (Isa Kimberly, Rosannah Isabel, Ebener Jordan, Daniel Trundy) was born 23 September 1889 at Gaylord, Ostego County, Michigan.  She married #1 Dummy Maxson, #2 Roy Cullies Matthews on 13 June 1914 the son of William Herbert Matthews and Katie Yates.  #3 Edwin Hansuld in 1928.  Beatrice divorced Edwin Hansuld after 17 years and married her old fling #4 Leslie Hunt.  Beatrice died 1964 at Gladstone, Delta County, Michigan as Mrs Leslie Hunt and is buried next to him in the Fernwood Cemetery, 3108 South Hill Road, Gladstone, Delta County, Michigan.  Leslie had died 1949-50 in Detroit, Michigan.

Note: Leslie Hunt had a bad heart, early in the morning Beatrice found him dead on the front sidewalk, he had carried a 50lb bag of cement up from the basement to repair a corner of the walk.  Edwin Hansuld is remembered "as a wonderful man, and step-father" by Beatrice Roberts "January 2002". He was Canadian born, his family lived around the Ontario area.

19238. Gladys Isabell Carpenter

. Gladys Isabell Carpenter (Isa Kimberly, Rosannah Isabel, Ebenezer Jordan, Daniel Trundy) was born 19 April 1892 at Gaylord, Ostego County, Michigan.  She married #1 Ed Bland, #2 Ralph Eberly who was born 28 Nov 1893.  She died 16 August 1965 as Mrs Ralph Eberly in Downey, LosAngeles, California.  Ralph Eberly died in May 1979 at SanGabriel, LosAngeles, California.

Note: Ed Bland had died from the flu epidemic during World War I, he and Gladys were living in Detroit, Michigan at the time.  Ralph & Gladys Eberly moved to SanGabriel, California 1938-1940.

25802. Marion Bland

Marion Bland died at 65-66yrs of age in Pennsylvania State of a stroke.
Note: Marion Bland's husband was deaf, he read lips.  He was employed as a chemist, got a job in a laboratory at Philadelphia, PA.  He worked for the iron & steel industry.  Marion and her husband had moved there from Elizabeth, New Jersey.


19239. Mears Edward Carpenter

Mears Edward Carpenter (Isa Kimberly, Rosannah Isabel, Ebenezer Jordan, Daniel Trundy) was born 24 March 1898 at Gaylord, Ostego County, Michigan.  He married Edna Agnas Ekman McCollum the daughter of Lars Theodor Lewis Ekman and Effie Bassett, the now divorced wife of James "Jim" Archibald McCollum on 20 August 1928 at Hamilton, Ravalli County, Montana.  Edna was born 26 February 1888 at Seely, Minnesota and died 23 March 1977 at Vancouver, Clark County, Washington.  Mears Died 26 June 1955 at Vancouver, Clark County, Washington.

Note: Mears and Edna Carpenter are buried in the Willamette National Cemetery at Portland, Multnomah County, Oregon.  Section H, Grave #1743 and #1744, 2 rows in from street (Mall Drive North) between coordinate marker #4 and #5.

In Feb 1968 Mrs. Edna Carpenter lived at 140 Whalen Loop Road Woodland, Washington.

CHAPTER XLVIII.
BIOGRAPHICAL SKETCHES. CITY OF WILLIAMSPORT AND BOROUGH OF SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT.
JOSEPH R. CARPENTER, of the firm of Carpenter Brothers Manufacturers of emery and corundum wheels, was born in Anthony township, Lycoming county, Pennsylvania, April 4, 1849. He is a son of Jesse B. and Phoebe (Carpenter) Carpenter of Piatt township, Lycoming county, and grandson of John Carpenter, a native of this county, and great-grandson of William Carpenter, who came from England during the Revolutionary war as a soldier in the army of Cornwallis, and subsequently settled in Lycoming county. The subject of this sketch was educated in the schools ,of Anthony township, where his father and grandfather lived, and subsequently took a course at the Montoursville Normal School. He followed agriculture until 1884, .and then engaged in the manufacture of emery wheels at Linden, under the firm name of Stone & Carpenter. At the end of two years Mr. Stone retired, and the present firm of Carpenter Brothers was organized. They moved their plant to Williamsport in 1891, and it is the only firm of the kind in this part of the State. Mr. ,Carpenter was married in 1873 to Emma E., daughter of John McLaughlin of Piatt township, and has three children: Jessie V.; Mack B., and J. Craig. He is a Democrat, and is a member of the Methodist Episcopal church.

ASHER M. CARPENTER, Of the firm of Carpenter Brothers, was born in Anthony township, September 16, 1857, and is a son of Jesse B. Carpenter, now a resident of Piatt township. He received a public school education in the district schools, and afterwards attended school at Montoursville and Jersey Shore. He was married in March, 1888, to Augusta C., daughter of Henry Jones of Porter township, and has one son, Henry Jones. He became a member of the present firm in 1886, and has been engaged in the manufacture of emery wheels for the past six years. He has been an active Democrat since attaining his majority, and served as auditor of Piatt township, clerk of election, etc. His wife is a member of the Lutheran church.
