goryid=381) I may have FINALLY after 30+ years found a home for
Daniel DeWitt Carpenter!! I thought that his father was Daniel and his
mother Patience. However, that information may now be wrong. I now
think that his parents may have been Daniel Carpenter and Nancy (Ann) English.
And that his grandfather was Elijah who was married to Patience
Salisbury.
My only problem is that I can only find two children for Daniel and Ann
although I am sure there were more children. The two that I found were 9
years apart in age. They were born in Madison County, New York though and
Daniel DeWitt Carpenter was alleged to have been born in Oswego County. I
do believe the two counties are next to each other though. Is that right,
John? Daniel DeWitt Carpenter was born c. 1819 and Daniel and Ann's two
children I found were born in 1818 and 1827.
I believe Daniel DeWitt also served in Co A, 124th Infantry for New York
during the Civil War from the County of Oswego. He was already living in
Wisconsin and married for about 20 years when the Civil War took place and
served for a year at the age of 41.
I did trace his wife's (Emma Emerson Logan) family back to Oneida County,
New York.

PARENTS:  His parents were both born in NY.  He had a brother, name unknown, probably James. That brother married and his daughter (Daisy is listed as 8 months old and born in CO) was living with Daniel D. Carpenter's family in the 1880 US Census in Montana.  Just above Niece Daisy is a Laura Carpenter listed as a Daughter in law - not Sister in law. By default, she is the wife of Frank.

NAME:  From Montana Marriages, 1889-1947 of son William.

AFN: Ancestral File number 20PD-0MS, with 1 child (Emma Josephine Carpenter) submitted by
KALINDA M. MAXFIELD
P O BOX 416 LAUREL NV 59044
Submission: AF97-118862
NOTE: Wife is listed as Emma Emerson, not as Emma Logan as listed in Montana Marriages.
Is there a possibility he married 2 Emmas?
