NAME: Always went by Albert or C.A. per Alberta Smith in a letter dated 26 May
1999.
MARRIAGE: 22 or 23 Sept. 1885.
DEATH: Obit notice in the Columbus Junction Newspaper entitled "Death Summons
Comes to Hon. C. A. Carpenter (who was a) Prominent Lawyer and Business Man
Succumbs after a Brief Illness And A Brilliant Career is Brought to AN Abrupt
Close." It starts; "The death of Hon. C. A. Carpenter, one of the most widely
known attorneys in southeastern Iowa occurred at his home on West Hill Sunday
afternoon at one o'clock following an illness dating from the middle of
August."  The article reprinted in full was in a "Carpenter Family Newsletter -
No. 49" produced by Alex Goloff, of East Peoria, IL, on 15 November 1996.
OCCUPATION: Per Helene Carpenter Ramos of Castro Valley, CA (letter dated 3
June 1999): An important piece of biographical information not mentioned in
this obituary excerpt is that C. A. Carpenter served a term as an Iowa
state senator in 1893-4 and was the youngest man ever elected to the Iowa
senate up to that time.

Grace A. Wolverton

BIRTH 22 or 23 Feb. 1864.  Different members of the family indicate different
dates.  However 23 Feb. 1864 wins out slightly.

Per Ingrid Fabianson (fabiain@earlham.edu) submitted in June 1999 - Charles
Albert Carpenter had an affair and produced a child.  Whether this is true
or not seems mute.  History is history from your point of view and this line
claims descent from Charles Albert Carpenter.
The main line of Carpenters denies this affair occurred and that this data should
not be included in this work.  I decided to include this line after much prayer
and concern to document everything.  I will let future researchers decide for
themselves.

12 June 1998.

I was on a long lay over in Salt Lake City and went
over to the Mormom Family Research Library.  While
there I found this picture.  Can you guess who these
people are?  It was titled in the book as Mrs. F.S.
Darrow and Julia 1902.  It should have read Mrs.
Franklin Louis Darrow and Julia.  This is Grandpa
Ken's Grandmother (Maiden Name: Mary Ann Carpenter)
and Aunt Julia.  I confirmed this with Mary Mason,
Aunt Julia's Daughter.  Just thought you would like to

John -- The GedCom will not work because I do not have his ancestry into my
database. I am developing a webpage using only
the direct ancestors of my parents and their immediate families. I would only
have F. L. Darrow's 2nd, 3rd and 4th great
grandparents in the database.
I do have information on F. L. Darrow's full ancestry but it comes from a book
published by Linda P. Reuter in April, 1997.
The name of the book is "The Darrow Family in the United States", 2nd Edition.
