Per John William Carpenter: George William Carpenter brought the family down from the Montana/Wyoming area about a year after his brother Gerry was born, probably 1924 or so. John William Carpenter grew up in what is Watts today. He took us on a trip to Montana when I was a boy and it was clear he wanted us to feel a connection to that part of the country.
