Emelyn was the daughter of Captain Abraham Russell of New Bedford, MA.
She is a literal descedant of Tristam Coffin of Nantucket, one of the
earliest and best historically (in 1900) known families of that island.

Mr. Carpenter was all his life identified with the business interests of New
York and was a distinguished member of the Masonic Fraternity.
After he died in 1882 his family resided in New York City.

For several years he was engaged at Colt's Armory, in Hartford, CT, and also on
Merritt Gally's printing presses, having also a small farm at East Hartford.
He was ordained elder in First Presbyterian Church, Hartford, CT on 9 January
1881.  In 1888 he removed to Newwark, NJ, where he now resides (in 1900).
