CARPENTER, ROBERT "BOB" C. "Bob" C. Carpenter of La Jolla, CA, passed away on October 22, 2010. Born on May 9, 1930 in Huntington, IN to Jane and Clayton Carpenter he was their only child. Hard work and dedication to family and community were his values. After earning his Eagle Scout status, he represented the USA in 1947 at the Boy Scout World Jamboree in France. Upon his return, he attended college at Purdue University where he was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Business. He met his wife, Doris "Dee," at Purdue and married in 1954. He continued to live in Anderson, Indiana while working as a owner/partner of three Carpenter's 5¢ to $1 Stores. In 1960, his only child Christen Lynn was born. That same year Bob and Dee moved to San Diego - leaving the family business to begin their new adventure on the west coast. Bob is a retired U.S. Army  Chief Warrant officer, earned his MBA from National University in 1976 and retired from Rohr Industries in 1992. Bob enjoyed his retirement and in 1993 his granddaughter Quinn Kathryn Latham was born. Bob and Dee traveled the world visiting many counties and making friends along the way. Bob especially enjoyed playing golf and bridge with his friends, sailing and flying private planes. He continued to maintain his association with Purdue as a member of the President' Council in support of scholarships. He was also a member of La Jolla Professional Men's club. Bob is survived by his wife of 56 years - Dee Carpenter, daughter Christen Latham and her husband Gary Latham and grandchild Quinn Kathryn Latham. Bob's wishes were there would be no services.
