Levi was a farmer and wheelwright. All his life was spent in his native town.
He had special adaptiveness for devising ingenious farming implements, and
several times visited Washington in the interest of his patents. Probably the
best known of these was the "L.C." ploughshare, which for many years was in
popular demand. Levi and his wife were members of the Friend's Society, and
highly respected in the community.E-MAIL: Date: Sun, 04 Mar 2001

I do have the death certificate of Roxse Carpenter and it states her
father was Levi Carpenter and her mother "Mariah".Of course it does
not have "Mariah's" maiden name.I was wondering if "Mariah" could
have been a first marriage and died when Roxse was born and that
Levi then married Fanny Sutton.Any and all help would really be
appreciated.I have also been told there are many mistakes in the
"Famous" Amos book and some families were mixed up and the errors
continue.I do not have the book but plan to purchase one. Thanks for
your time and patience-----JoyceNOTE: PLEASE Note the birth date given belowfor Roxy. JRC

Thank you for the quick response and the data that you sent. I think that we
have a match except I have the mother of Augustus-26308 as Elizabeth or Betsey
(1850 & 1860 federal census) rather than Sally Tompkins-26305. I wonder if
there were two wives or do I have the wrong Augustus?
Sincerely, Bill Montgomery.
