Addison County
Vermont, USABenjamin was a physician. He married Phebe Carpenter in Ferrisburg Township, Addison County or Montpelier, Addison County, on December 8, 1808. Their children were born in Ferrisburg and Lincoln, VT.
After his marriage to Phebe Carpenter, he settled in Starksboro, Addison County, just a bit farther up north from Lincoln where he practiced medicine. In 1817, they moved to Lincoln. Their farm was about a mile north of the town center off what is now Quaker Road, named "Maple Grove." Maple sugar was one of their products of the farm.
I visited the farm in August 2003. The original house has been torn down; and a more recent house stands East of the original. The original was near the place a garage stands now.
It is said that Dr. Benjamin Taber was tall, slim, height was past the median size. He was the first physician living in Lincoln and the only one for several years. He rode through the countryside visiting patients for over 40 years until well past 60 years of age.
You can find three of his sons and several grandchildren buried in the Hesper Public Cemetery, Hesper, Winnisheik, Iowa – David, Russel and B. J. (Benjamin James) Taber. Some may be listed under Tabor.
